I just noticed that Owen Wilson played a gym teacher in "Rushmore" and in Wes Andersons new movie "fantastic mr fox". Weird coincidence? Or is it? I kind of felt this movie jumped around too much, adding different story twists and characters that weren't really a hundred percent necessary. Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson probably had good reason for it though.
whoa...the credits show a tenenbaum plays the role of contractor. for all who haven't check out the film the royal tenenbaums. another anderson classic.
she is not in love with him. i think she values all the things max has done for her and for others, and understand the pain he has about the lost of his mother. Also max was in rushmore because of his mother. Plus max's eyes are like the eyes of her dead husband.
@gymclasshero88 Its about a boy who falls in love with his teacher and befriended a wealthy middle-aged man. The middle-aged man then falls in love with the teacher, who turned down the boys request to a relationship. Boy gets kicked out of school and finds out the middle-aged man is having an affair with the teacher (which doesn't last long). Boy gets man divorced and teacher fired, continues to pursue woman, and the middle-aged man becomes his friend again. Boy then tries to hook them back up.

i don't get the ending? who will stay with who? did max get the girl? why did she take off his glasses? it would be impossible to sat she fell inlove with max thanks to one song? ughhhhhhhh i dont fucking get it. the end ruined the whole movie
This is one of the few films I've seen where I really connect with a character. Maybe being a smartass 15 year old at the time had something to do with it.
One thing that makes a movie a true classic: a great ending. And this is one of the best, definitely. Such a great closing scene, perfect credit song. Just awesome.
If i could go back to 2007 and ask for one favor as the last song for my High School graduation dance... It'd be this oo la la, this song. Not Vitamin C BS bout school. But this. It's the PERFECT high school graduation song.
@MckyMseNTarotCrds Totally. It's actually....exquisite. The slow-mo lead in the closing dance by Max and Rosemary is just, as you said, perfection :0)
"I wish that i knew what i know now, when i was younger."
The best part is not knowing and doing all those pointless, futile, and stupid things one does in their youth. At times I took it too far and was arrested a few times. I look back now and think about how crazy it all was and I would never repeat any of it. But I would never change any of it!
@samyooljackson He did not get THE girl in the end... he got -a- girl. This movie really pissed me off. It was obvious what was going to happen but the whole time you watch it you want him with ..... oh fuck it... i give up.
@kyle1058 At the end of the movie, he's dancing with the girl he wanted the entire time. You can't talk about what happened after that because thats the credits all that matters is that he's with her. So he did get the girl in the end of the movie.
@samyooljackson She removes his glasses and looks into the eyes of her dead husband, and in the end they both realize something. Max is the subject of the movie, not Miss Cross, but the bittersweet ending tell the story of a platonic love.
@JoyGrenade What really happens at the end ? i mean it iis currently my 2nd favorite film of all-time but after re-watching it a few more times , i realize i dont understand the ending , can you please help me ?
@TheBoysdontcry96 Listen to the lyrics of the song "Ooh La La". The emotional truth of this scene should be pretty self-evident, but basically, Max comes to terms with the fact that he and Miss Cross will only ever be friends. Also, Mr. LittleJeans learns a magic trick.
Olivia William's face when Jason Schwartzman says "At least nobody got hurt"... Max when he tells Margaret to dance, saying, "He's my friend"... This is one of the classic finales in movies, and definitely the last time Wes Andersen cared more about the characters than about the mise en scene.
@bfdhvcnvvbjdn A frank discussion of artwork by peers is called a 'critique' and rarely involves the use of the word 'idiot'. Would you like some cream dog?
I've never seen director that could make depression and awkwardness look and feel so surreal, normal and beautiful all at the same time. Thank you, Wes and Owen.
Yeah I have to agree. after seeing the Life Aquatic i realized just how important Owen Wilsons contribution was to the first three movies. Life Aquatic and Darjeeling Express were OK. but Bottle Rocket , Rushmore and Royal tenenbaums were brilliant. I think they should always collaborate .
