  • Oss...

  • 8minutes of my life well spent! I have been training in Shotokan for 7yrs and am still only just starting to understand it

  • i dont understand why the hell that there is so much fighting styles in the world

  • If you are into Shotokan Karate. Youtube search : Sensei Fazliu Karate , and watch all the videos in his channel there is some really good stuff. His Kata's are coming soon

  • My sensei tells me that kata can be seen as a battle with one's self. After a year of training I think I am starting to understand. For me Karate is the battle with myself, every ounce of control over my entire body I can grasp, and that's the high I get from dojo kun. Great Channel

    Aaron KUGB

  • @PnutButter1986 thanks for writing this. i hope this same feeling is shared by my daughter who is only 7 and just promoted to rank of Hatchi Kyu. I'm so proud of her and want her to have the best. when she is older she will be like you and finally understand on a deeper level.

  • @foldedintobeauty3 I'm honoured that you want your daughter to share mine as well as your value in Karate. I believe we cannot reach that through sport. For me it should always be a personal journey rather than the pretty insignificant struggle to be praised above others. Since I began studying Karate I have only grown as a person, never judging others on their physical ability, only respecting them for their internal spirit. All the best to you and your daughter

  • Shotokan is the most intresting material art (karate) becouse of it is so much tradition, material art, The Japanese military have training karate most of the time

  • Very touching. I am getting the feeling that karate reveals itself after a lifetime of training. One must continue to polish the spirit through tears and pain. Then a dragon emerges.

  • 6:48 Kancho kanazawa! 1st one on the left i got to train and meet him last week it was the best OSS!! Kancho!

  • My greatest regret is that I have only one lifetime alloted to me to learn the martial arts; I would like another to learn and appreciate Shotokan Karate.

    Peace.

  • Please can you tell me what was the name of the music you

used in this video? It was lovely.

  • Sundome1, this is video represent the "spirit" of Karate. What you do not see but that you fill - Some of the negative comments below underline that this art, fortunately, is not for everyone. Would it be possible to know the name of the music that you have used? Thanks!

  • @canigi I'd like to know also, same question

  • Respond to this video... Love it, it touches me

  • Fantastic!

  • awesome video it delivered many things into peoples heart without speaking that what a real warrior spirit is all about kudos to the one who posted this video

  • @ajitforbo7o Many thanks

  • where can I get the song theme? please ... thankyou

  • one strike one down... that;s the battle philosophy

  • Today there are so many different and also effective martial arts but shotokan has something most of them dont have - Style

Thanks for the vid it kind of reminded me why im doing shotokan

  • this is something i really wanna learn

  • What speed at 1:36!

  • IMO karate(specially shotokan) is like a samurai worrior who's gonna strike down a opponent in one strike.

IMO Fencing is like kick boxing and boxing.

IMO muay thai is like sword and shield.

    karate, shotokan is beutiful

  • ossu! thank you for sharing...

  • FUCKIN FANTASTIC VIDEO..... BRILL 5 STARS

  • My thoughts and prayers go to the people of Japan at this most difficult time - "Nana-Korobi, Ya-Oki"

  • LOS MAS GRANDES MAESTROS ESTAN AKI EN ESTE VIDEO NAKAYAMA , ENOEDA , SHIRAI , KASE, ABE ,TANAKA , KANAZAWA, NISHIYAMA, OSAKA KAGAWA.LOS MAS GRANDE KE EL KARATE A DAO Y NUNCA LLEGAREMOS A SU ALTURA

  • what's the name of the song???

  • Amazing video!!!. What's the name of the song?

  • Hi there, can someone explain the rules to me?Can there be hits in the faceand i didnt see any knees , is that aload?

    Tnx.

    Greetz from Amsterdam.

  • Awesome vid.

  • @aDiDasBiH maybe the best lesson to learn is respect.

  • @toxi87 One of the hallmarks of JKA teachers is technique of dazzling dynamics and typically displayed by a teacher famous by name and rank. Seducing physical dexterity is unknowingly equated with knowledge of karate. Zillions accept the implied and are pulled headlong into a sport whose syllabus falls woefully short of primal karate. Their tactics fit well in sporting events but are a liability in combat. Rampant hordes practice karate yet are largely ignorant of karate.

  • @toxi87 Their sparring games hide the reality of interpersonal conflict. They are never told karate is a simple martial art that requires basic ability to learn and is highly effective. As a result, millions have a false sense of facility and are ignorant of the intrinsic nature of martial arts. The cold truth lurks in a dark alley. What is there to respect? A JKA life member and 46 year karate-ka now devoted to true karate, the karate of Okinawa where it was developed and is uncorrupted.

  • @aDiDasBiH

Never underestimate the strength of us.

    Jochen - 40 years JKA

  • @aDiDasBiH .Infact it was The Movies in which Bruce Lee had inspired me to begin looking at Martial Arts.

I also study Aikido and Omori Ryu Iai.But it is always going to be Shotokan which keeps me so inspired today. And I soley study to enhance my personality and how I conduct myself in around people I come into contact. How long you been studying Wing Tsun.

  • @aDiDasBiH @aDiDasBiH

Sorry much respect for your Wing Tsun. But is it not Our freedom to study what we wish.

Again I stress I have much respect for Wing Tsun.As much as I harbour respect for Martial Arts...I harbour a deep passion for Shotokan a spark and hunger that has burnt deep inside me since a very young and tender youth,I have studied Muay Thai with Russell Thornley But Shotokan is like a magnet to me.lol....I just keep being compelled to Shotokan.

  • @aDiDasBiH Every martial art is working. It depends on the one who trains it. Look at for example Lyoto Machida. He has been world champion in UFC and he is practicing Shotokan, but Shotokan is not only about kicking someones ass or score points. Shotokan is a lifestyle. There is no first attack in karate. Its a good self defense and i promise you it is working as long as you have trained it a lot and are pretty good at it.

  • does anyone know the name to the music being played for this video please????

  • Great video. I have been practicing Shotokan for 8 years. Before that I earned a Black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I wish I wold have spent all my time training in Shotokan.Shotokan is very Law Enforcement friendly. I love it.

  • At 7:26 - 7:41 is prob the most intense part of this video! Sick moves!

  • my highest respects for your work.Oss.

  • شكرا جزيلا

    Thank you very much

  • Thank You! OSS

  • THIS IS NOT KARATE! A warning from a JKA life member: I spent a long time training and teaching this activity. Because of many contradictions I saw and heard I began a study of karate from it’s beginning; what it really is, why it was developed, how it was taught, what it’s general syllabus was. The JKA is a shell, they have eliminated much of original karate and have invalidated it as a martial art. Read comments my site, the truth is obvious through study if you are willing to see it.

  • @IEKUKATAKA: you're a fool

  • @risborg You hope that I am and you hope I am wrong, it would benefit you. Sadly, I am not. You fell into a trap many have fallen in, you allowed another to tell you what karate is. So did I but I heard contradictions from those same voices and eventually learned the truth. You have two choices, investigate on your own, the moral truth is there to be learned, or you can continue as is. If you continue as is, YOU WILL NEVER HAVE BEEN A STUDENT OF KARATE, the JKA will have deluded you also. Ijo!!

  • @IEKUKATAKA and i suppose that you know all there is to know....

    get over yourself

  • @risborg Attitude!! Typical of the JKA elitist. A lie believed by millions is still just a lie. Your beloved pseudo style has been branded with a name; kyogi te, deceiving hands. It deserves it and apparently you do also. IJO!

  • This video underlines that karate is truly a way of life.

  • I've seen some great Shotokan videos on here, this one however must be the greatest on the net.

    Thank You! OSS

  • @my2opinion - Thanks for your kind comment! Oss...

  • @Sundome1 - please can you tell me the name of this music as its very nice... Oss

  • SHOTOKAN KARATE-DO is a powerful, graceful, fluid, dynamic scientific style: Their Instructors are are True Masters / Grand Masters of the Art of KARATE {Tae Kwon Do in Korean = in Fact the Koreans have copied the basic movements from SHOTOKAN and added more FANCY HIGH POWERFUL KICKS/JUMP KICKS.

SHOTOKAN Katas are beautiful to watch. I like Masao Kagawa Sensei, Kanazawa, Enoeda, Yahara, Shirai, Tanaka and many excellent JKA Instructors.

  • ANyone knows how long does it takes to be good at shotokan if you start fresh. IM 22 years old and interested.

  • @SuperPluto10 - Shotokan Karate-Do should be a lifetime journey, it isn't easy I grant you. Sensei Kase once said "Karate training is like trying to make fire with wet matches. After several tries you may get some sparks, but if you are patient you will get fire that lasts forever" Inspirational words indeed - Sundome1 wishes you well in your training.

  • @Sundome1 Thank you Sundome1. I honor your worlds of wisdom and take it to the journey of greatness. My training in karate will start as a mustard seed and in time will grow to be the biggest and strongest tree.

  • @SuperPluto10 - Good man!

  • @Sundome1 I know I shouldn't focus on this, but how long does it takes to get a black belt!

  • @SuperPluto10 achiving a black belt depends on which organisation your in, your sensei, ad how hard you train....and how often a week. if you join the jka. or organisations afflicted with the jka, you will be taught quality karate. if you train once a week, karate will not go into your nervous system and can take over 6 years to get black belt. train twice a week and youll get it in 5 years. train 3 times a week and you can get it in 4. train everyday and 3 years will go by youll have your black

  • @SuperPluto10 just make sure you go to a dojo that give you a well deserve black belt not a mcdojo that will give it to you in 2 years or even 3 years and then you get destroyed in fights. make sure you join JKA, JKS , JKSA , ISKA , SKIF. and of these will do. and when you get black belt from them you will be lethal... ( on the streets ) against somebody else training in karate you will be a beginner lol.. black belt is the begining :) . inbox me and ill tell you everything you want to know.

  • @SuperPluto10 That would depend on any MA experience you might have had, your motor skills, and the frequency and seriousness of your training. You should count on quite some years to familiarize and of course a A LOT more years to master it.

A saying is: 1000 days make a beginner and 10000 make a master.

  • @SuperPluto10 depends on ur dedication.more u devote ur self-u'll become better & better........

  • @SuperPluto10 Find a Goju Ryu dojo or other Okinawan style. See comments below and on my channel. Your future in karate relies on good choices in the beginning. The JKA is not a good choice if you have others.

  • @SuperPluto10 the man you see in the video from 7:09 to 7:45 is tanaka sensei .... one of the toughest karate fighers of his time....he teaches at the hombu dojo in tokyo. and he started training karate in his twenties.....22 years old is fine. if your willing to put in intense will power and dedication.

  • Than you. Im going to take my time on the decisions I make. I happy you told me that. Make me feel confident.

  • @SuperPluto10 About three to five years to master the body dynamics and develop your own flavor and two or three more years to refine it. Beyond that you're just going around and around the same block and you should get out and start another style, preferably something that won't jack your joints up as bad. The "lifetime journey" is a pretty bit of poetic advertising to get you to keep paying dues to the organization forever. You are training to become your own teacher. Truth comes from within.

  • @SuperPluto10 Bro, my Sensei started at 18 years old and managed to become second in Europe.

He's a black belt at the moment, he learned BJJ and Shotokan Karate. Now he trains his MMA team.

In his MMA lessons he always trained us to use a long distance which is perfect in my opinion. If we get in a close distance we use grappling and If you'll ever have a street fight with no weapons you'll win 99 percent whitout a scratch because Shotokan trains lightning speed. It's an awesome martial art.

  • @SuperPluto10

it depends on you and on your master... but know that, befor shotokan i have trained in Judo and then in a different kind of karate named Budo-kan-Rio, i loved them very much but when i moved out of town and found out about shotokan, i understood very fast that it is something alse, i love it and dispite all problems i am still training and hope to do so forever! i personally know many people who started to train at your age and gone pretty far on their ways.

    i say, go for it!

  • @SuperPluto10 depends on your dedication to the art really and remember, free your mind, there are no better or worse martial arts, it all depends on the student/master

  • Respect !

  • OSS!!!

  • Nice video, I like the round house kicks the most. : )

  • what the music in this video?

  • what the music in this video?

  • Nice video. pretty good.

Pleasant to see a few "stars" =)

  • O' Sensei Funakoshi is the founder of Karate Shotokan it is correct !! And the nickname of Funakoshi was "Tiger" !!

  • @superlion72 hope your joking. I don't know about any nickname but his pen name was Shoto which means "pine waves"

  • @superlion72 funakoshis name wasnt tiger, your thinkin about enoida sensei

  • @superlion72 My understanding of the tiger symbol in Shotokan is that Funakoshi, after a hard training session, would unwind by taking walks on Mount Toroh (sorry, I don't know the spelling), and the mountain looked like a Tiger's tail. On these walks he would enjoy the sound of the waving pines. It was relaxing to him. As I understand it, this is where we get the tiger symbol from, as well as the "waving pines" (shoto). I welcome any correction or addition to this.

  • @njtr The 'Tora no Maki', or tiger roll actually came about when it was placed on Funakoshi's first book, "Ryukyu Kempo: Tode", On the cover of this book, a famous artist friend of Gichin Funakoshi, Hoan Kosugi, placed the tiger symbol.

Kosugi inspired himself in the Japanese saying Tora no Maki, that in Japanese is a phrase that describes an official document, established as a reference on a system.

  • Source of Shotokan Karate??? Where is Funakoshi??

  • Try and open your eyes!

  • @theyankeesrule99 Funakoshi is from 6:28 - 6:48

  • Excellent presentation, thanks for sharing.

  • This is a nice video.

I have to say that Im jealous...because there's alot of videos supporting Shotokan but nothing on Shudokan. I only say this cause Im from Toyama Kanken line.

  • hermoso video....me gusto mucho...

soy kenshin pero el shoto lo e visto siempre con mucho respeto..

un abraso fraterno desde puerto montt chile

  • Good thing. I taught this video would be commented through the use of trolls refereeing to Street Fighter. Like "RYU!" or "SHORYUKEN" but good thing there isn't. It be kind of a disrespect if you think about it.

  • Very nice. Wonderfully put together.

  • im a shotokan black belt as welll... its my pride and honor to be part of it... nyc vid!... tnx!

  • Wonderful archive footage! The essence of Shotokan Karate is presented well in this video, and tribute. Well done! Good Choice of music as well. My compliments!

  • @torro454 Thank You

  • I disagree!!! The source of Shotokan its the breath japan before existance based heavily on Bushido and Zen, lies the philosophy of Shotokan. The existence of shotokan was way before 1949 called Shotokai. The founder of shotokai was Gichin Funakoshi in 1868 The first official dojo built by Funakoshi, in 1939. The styles of Shōrei-ryū and Shōrin-ryū that combined the ideals of the two is how Shotokan was created, simply as karate. JKA its just a simple Japan Karate Association.

  • @luiswega Gichin Funakoshi was not the founder of Shotokai but the founder of Shotokan. Shotokai was formed by a break away group lead by Egami/Hironishi. The Japan Karate Association was helped formed by Funakoshi and it is the J.K.A. which brought shotokan karate to the world - it is these facts which make it "The Source of Shotokan Karate."

  • @Sundome1 Wrong.. shotokai its to days shotokan...you need to go way back when it dosent had a name...Funakoshi dident call it shotokan but simply karate..the names comme after his death... not just JKA but many associations carry on his legacy diferent ways...JKA's fundamentals of karate are the most important and most correct 27 kata's insted of 26 ! Orginal but not the source of shotokan karate

  • @luiswega "Shōtō-kan" was the name of the first official dojo built by Funakoshi, in 1939 in Mejiro, & destroyed in 1945 as a result of WW2 bombing. Shoto meaning "pine-waves," was Funakoshi's pen-name, which he used in his poetic, philosophical writings & messages to his students. The Japanese kan means "house" or "hall". What do you mean "Original but not the source?"

  • had the priviage of training with most of them sensie enoda did my nidan grading and sensie tanaka my yondan grading they were great influance on us in south africa in the early 80s . saw both do there famous demo ous with great respect. john south africa

  • As far as I know he's a member of the Board of Directors at the JKA headquarters.

  • at 8:32 sensei gitchin funakoshi

and you know as he said once

(the ultimate aim of the art of karate lies not in victory or defeat but in the perfection of the character of it's participants)

and of course he is the father of modern karate at okinawa's island and he is a real samurai warrior.

  • I studied under Mori Masataka sensei, here in JKA New York. I felt bad I when I missed Enoeda sensei's last seminar before he died. Watching this video makes you feel you're saying goodbye to some the senseis who have gone, as well as those who are at the twilight of their ages. Good Vid... OSSU!

  • 100% cold chivers !

Many of the sensei's i had the honour to train with. In the yearly karatestages in Ghent and Knokke , Belgium.
