Great soundtrack, too. One of the best quotes I've ever heard: "No matter how much you change, you still have to pay the price for the things you've done."
@Bojaxs America is a massive country, going in a different State is like going in an other country. Just changing your look and going in small town areas makes it even harder for them to find you.
I can' t remember how many times I saw this movie. A lot of people want to change but don'' t or can' t. Dougie inspirerd me to change. I got a on road!
I can' t remember how many times I saw this movie. A lot of people want to change but don'' t or can' t. Dougie inspirerd me to change. I got a on road!
Like so many commentators here, I'm simply blown away bu the quality of this movie and Afflect's incredibly brilliant direction. But there's something so moving, something that speaks directly to me in this scene and the letter that it almost haunts me. I can't get it out of my head - no matter how much you change - you still have to pay the price for the things you've done. But I know I'll see you again - this side or the other". For me, it can only be the other and then I can say I'm sorry..!!
@MARKGPL I guess it's a passage of hope when there appears to be no hope at all. If we lose someone we love, through all the pain and grief, we eventually are comforted knowing that we will be reunited on the Other Side.
Good movie - Can't believe Affleck can direct and act so well !! The actor has matured - and has come a long way from the horrendous Phantoms Gigli and Armageddon trash he had become stereotyped with...
You cannot mention The Shawskank Redemption and The Town in the same stinkin' breath. It's not the same vicinity, it's not even the same fuckin' time zone.
Take out the slow boring and plodding parts of Shawskank and you have a nice half-hour comedy. The Town has precision frenetic editing, visceral details and palpable characters f'crissakes. That Affleck guy is now officially "Wicked smaHt!"
I'd buy him a beeHr any place naHth of the bridge.
The problem is that you have to do a full nickel yourself to get there from the beginning! The END of Shawshank is a great spoiler. No one buys it on DVD to pull out the nuances and things they missed the first time. Two hours twenty-two minutes long, wow.
@zippyman818 I bought it on DVD because those "boring" parts is where the story is. What's the ending without the story before it? Plus, a lengthy film can be lengthy if necessary and Shawshank accomplished much in its pacing and engaging, character-driven story. The director did a fantastic job. On the other end, so did Affleck. I hold a lot of respect for him. He's so underrated. But I definitely don't think either film is better than the other. Like you said, not comparable.
@BatMak23 Oh, that's a good argument for The Shawshank Redemption. There are a lot of details and character development in the middle of the movie. I guess it portrays prisonlife in that era so well, that it can tend to depress the viewer's spirits; much like the inmates it portrays. Mmmm, maybe that was the director's intent.
When dialogue from "The Town" shows up on gameshows and trivia games, then I'll be ready!
"Can I have Ben Affleck movies that didn't suck for $2,000 Alex?"
@ColeHan100 have you seen The Shawshank Redemption well just to tell you you might break down in tears after watching it...in my opinion the best movie ever is The Shawshank Redemption and second best is The Town
its almost the same ending as "The Shawshank Redemption" except in that movie Andy and Redd meet up on the beach (best ending ever by the way)...in this movie Doug and Claire never meet up with each other by the letter thing is still the same
i loved this movie, i would really like to see ben do some type of sequel to it, i think something on the lines of frawley trying to catch doug while hes on the fugitive and dooug trying to re-connect with claire.
i fucking love this movie, watch it atleast once everyday for the past 7 months. NO LIE this is an amazing movie, the quotes, the lessons you learn, leaves me speechless
@zippyman818 LOL!!!! That's true. Sadly though, "Reindeer Games" isn't the worst of some of his. Still though, there's no denying the man can direct. He was pretty solid in The Town as an actor too. I can't wait to see Ben direct Casey again.
"no matter how much you change, you still have to pay the price for the things youve done...but i know ill see you again, this side or the other" so true...so sad but true. sadly, he probably would never get to see her again, not on "this side" anyway
@beatnut05 its alomst like "The Shawshank Redemption" when Andy and Redd meet on the beach thats only if you have seen it...it is the best ending ever and this is the second best ending ever
@RebelGuy10100 Talk about endings. DONT READ THIS IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT. I watched it "on demand" twice falling asleep before these final scenes both times. This afternoon I saw it all. When they showed "anonymous gift...." I knew it was the boys' club and when the camera panned up I felt like I had been hit in the gut. Then I burst into tears. Should I say "well done Mr. Affleck"?
@ninialoqita8 I know that he kept his promise. there was a commentary between them 2 in real life, for the movie.. shame u didnt see it, its on twitter though, it was a live broadcast.
