Fire Nation - Based off of Imerial Japan and how they conquered most of Southest Asia and the Pacific Island. The culture/Architecture is mostly Japnese .

Water Tribes - Based off of Inuit, Yupik, and Native American cultures/people

Earth Kingdom - Mostly Chinese culture/Architecture with some Korean and Japanese influences

Air Nomads - Straight-out based off of Tibetian peoples/culture/spirituality

I just think that if nothing else they should've at least made aang an asian actor. Personally I like Jesse Macartney as Zuko better. He's the voice of Sora in Kingdom Hearts so I was already convinced he'd do a steller job as Zuko but whatever I guess Dev Patel will be just as good, but seriously nothing against Noah but they should've if nothing else made aang asian seriously. It just makes me mad because the whole series was as you said so reliant on the asian culture in almost every respect.

It's funny how all the Asians seem upset that the blue-eyed caucasian cartoon characters they loved to watch turned out to be played by white people in the real life movie! No way!!1 Haha. If anyone is wondering, they drew from Asian culture, but the characters were basically all white in Avatar. If you don't believe me please look for yourself. Most commonly, Japanese people do this all the time in anime/games, they take foreign gods/culture/people and mold them into however they want.

1. Remember that the creators of Avatar are white

2. All the voice actors except Dante Basco and Mako were caucasian.

3. Indians ARE asian. Chances are if you are asian, you are buddhist; where do you think buddhism came from? (technically it came from Nepal)

4. The martial arts choreographer wasn't asian

5. The Water Tribes were based off the Inuit culture (asiatic?)

6. The proto-Fire Nation were based on South American.
