why don't you all, why don't you all, why don't you all get (blank) fuck.,... australia was as pussy as america all the way back then? My generation had no hope.
@Gazzz87 Yep, it was... I don't know when we made when swearing was accepted on TV and we grew some balls... but this blank is bullshit... conservative... uptight... shame Australia shame! Fucking wussy country even got Graham Kennedy off the air just coz he impersonated a crow sound, but accidentally added an 'F'
I remember being asked as a teen whether skyhooks had a song by this name. I had the album on vinyl. Shame about the censorship and the bad live version.
I was in the crowd at the recent brissie angels gig (Dec 09) - Doc still rocks - and when it came round to 'Will I ever see your face again' with the crowd doing the unofficial response 'no way get fu**ed" I remembered this hooks track. Skyhooks didn't wait for their audience to make up their minds - laid it straight with suburbia in all it's unrefined glory - but hey - still love the Angels.
The lead singer is like a precursor to the considerably more successful Michael Hutchence (whose pursuit of the Little Death caused him to meet the Big Death)
loved both Skyhooks and Inxs, can definetly say enjoyed the more heavier rock of Skyhooks, they were aussie thru and thru, oversea exposure was a hell of a lot harder back then. Michael Hutchence was himself and nothing like Shirley (RIP both of them). Shirl the curl for my money
two reasons local radio dont play decent aussie bands only mass produced politically correct tv pop and second reason because oz radio dont play decent aussie ........you got it
totally agree... if you look at the 70's society in retrospect, it was filled with conservative ring-winged oldmen and stepford wives. Not even a hip show like Nightmoves nor a cool band like Skyhooks could mess around during those times. Cool decade ruled by Mike Willissee and his ilk
@nzoz1978 It was also filled with cocaine which took people into their aggressive, self-absorbed selves and away from their creative , compassionate selves.. But only the late 70's .. The early to mid 70's had a lot of good mainstream things going on due to all the psychedelics and pot flooding society, Even the commercials back then were fascinating.
@nzoz1978 I am talking about mainstream society and the direction the music took, not all people, but the many people. Cocaine became in fashion then and disco was the choice of music for many people who listened to mainstream music. There has always been good underground music. I was just talkign about the change in society on the whole in the late 70's. The mainstream music changed and so did the television shows and commercials.
@gabehampton oh i see... kinda gives me a new way of looking at this period. disco was the sore-spot of popular culture.. much the same way Justin Bieber is today.
yeah, hasn't changed much since the 70's though, cause people still censor the shit out everything now adays, but creative group, good listening to them, as long as a band is creative, and good to listen to i dont care what era they are from : )
Hey no offence, just great that there are people listening to their music, I have all their albums (and variants) on the old vinyle, it's cult (like Blue Öyster Cult almost)
Skyhooks made it all the way to the cold north - Sweden. Thank you Lynette from Canada who lend me your Ego-album when we were 13! Fell in love with them right away. And especially Shirl's singing-voice!
I used play this in primary school on cassette until my wanker teacher took it. Least im not a criminal like he is today hey roger lane!! fuckin sick loser!!
Man, what a performance- thanks for posting this! The sound is a decade ahead of its time, and way better than most of what came later. Rest in peace, Shirl.

I would rather relive my 1970's from '75 than live in this present 3 ring circus we call modern society.
we got laid and didn't fret about aids or adults moral panics
we non violently opposed our governments without a Patriot Act to try stop us.
We went out and explored our world without the internet or parental paranois to stop us.
Apart from the internet most of the rest would not be missed.

Well, it's not really the point!
The point is that they have so incredible cool lyrics for that time(70:s)
They were so flipped out and unusaual
combined with kind of a traditonal pub-rock
style, yet totally different tunes.
There's a point in the distance....
