One reason I date women of other races: black women seem to be heavily caught up in this silly "gender war". I want to get along with women. Not fight with them. The last few black women I've dealt with seemed to be confrontational towards me & black men in general. Just for being men. While you are correct in saying that gender war sexists amongst numall other races to certain degrees, it seems to be even more pronounced amongst African-Americans. Not all black women are like that, I know.
Yes! All over the world there is oppression of women. There are only a few small societies where women are honoured and respected. Google Minangkabau. It's an issue for ALL women. Excellent video and excellent questions Nicole. Even if 70% of black women are single then women are taking their power! IMHO, men have yet to evolve, irregardless of colour.
Oh.. and Stacia... I COMPLETELY agree with you in that women as a whole have been sold a bill of goods with regard to feminism. It's goal was to destroy the family and it's succeeded in that. It's goal also was to made enemies of men and women and if we look at the Domestic Violence issue, the Child Support and Family Court Systems and the Divorce industry are all a result of this movement for 'equality'. Of course this is only my opinion.
Women cheat just as much as men do. These men are cheating with someone. Women are just as violent as men are. Men took beatings and lynchings FOR women. Stacia made some great points and the BBDs will definitely be her fans.lol!'
I think men either purposely or unknowingly miscontrue the true message behind women being independent. I don't know too many women who don't want a man to take care of them.
I agree with you. there's more than one way (financially) to take care of a woman. A dude can take care of an independent woman by supporting her as he would expect her to support him in her lifes goals work related family related etc etc. Just because I can move that couch by myself doesn't mean i want to know what i mean? Just because i can buy all the groceries with money I earned doesn't mean he shouldn't ever buy groceries, right?
She has the Most Beautiful Eyes! No I am not objectifying her,..lol. But Her Eyes are extraordinary!!! You have the same eyes, I was gonna ask if she was your sister, and yall just keepin that on the low. Unhhunh.
hmm, I really don't think that the impact of drugs divides us per se... I really don't think of that as a gender "pacific" (LOL) issue, with regard to this particular video.
I agree that is a relevant issue aside from the discussion at hand. Since I don't do videos, maybe Ms. Nicole will keep this topic in mind for another video?
1. This is a great video! Thanks so much for expounding upon some of the realities of pre-feminism life for women, regarding the mistreatment, abuse and infidelity that was VERY prevalent in post slavery, pre-civil rights/ feminism times. Alot of of folks on YT LOVE to harken back to the good ol' days, when black folks were all lovey dovey, women knew their place and were SOOO happy about it, and men were the perfect providers/protectors. NOT!!!! We have to STOP romanticising the past.
2. The realities for women have never, in recent history, been great. Even in traditional African cultures, there were disparities in power, mistreatment of women and male supremiscist attitudes. Whats pissin many AA men off now, is that they are no longer given the freedom to do WHATEVER they want, with no accountability. Now...im not sayn that sistas aint a bit harsh. We definitely gots our issues. But there is a reason for the animosity. We can't fix this by ignoring the real issues.
3. As long as women are considered "less than" on ANY level, there will always be problems between the sexes. The woman must be given her RIGHTFUL place BESIDE the man, not just in the US, but all around the world, if the world is to find balance. This idea that somehow the female is inferior to the male, and her only purpose is the sexual gratification, comfort and provider of children for men, is so contrary to nature. We are out of balance. And so many of us women believe it too!
4. Its so ingrained in religions, social customs, political structure, financial institutions, & community structure, tht women ourselves dont even realize how much we have bought into "men are better" mentality. We teach our daughters to use their bodies to barter for love & power, holding out for the highest bidder. The female is seen as as extention of the male...not a divine creation in her own right. Physical strength is coveted, while emotional expression is reviled.
---Rather than just focus on slavery, our speaker might be better off talking about OPPRESSION (both past & present). Racism, classism, and all other sorts of oppressions can be / have been internalized and turned inward toward. Though slavery may be the most extreme example, it's not by any means the only one.
I think it's spiritual. In Genesis the curse on Eve was that she would crave her husband and "HE WILL DOMINATE YOU. " It also goes on to tell the source of the hatred of women. I think the bible is also telling us about the fall of woman. But I also think religious brothers are the worst. They seem to expect to be worshipped. I agree with you Atlanta Sister about women's lib. I don't think we bought into it as much as it was forced on us.
I'm responding from a mobile device, so I'll be brief. First, I think there's a distinct difference btwn being feminist/womanist/independent and being emasculating and/or aloof when it comes to men. Now that Stacia has clarified herself, I agree on a lot of her points. Now I have To nitpick a bit. Her misuse of the word "behoove" is driving me nuts! Great discussion, ladies
Gloria Stienem mother of feminisnm CIA operative..piggybacked on the civil rights movement/black power movement google it ..you sisters were duped by a program created to seperate the family and create these gender wars..lesbianism on the rise ..homosexuals on the rise..latchkey kids on the rise..babymamas on the rise...return to family and black love
--- Feminisim's is about the individual. People ought to get to fashion their lives based upon who they are -not which sex organs they are born with.
----People would still pair off and marry, but as individuals not as a male forced into the "male role" and a female forced into the "female role". Two people would choose each other, not be glued together from the outside.
----That is the path we seem to be taking. Sometimes conflict ( a lot single of BW) is needed to effect change.
As far as Black feminism goes...it's a myth in that Feminism never truly applied to Black women because it was not designed FOR Black women.
You're right in your assertion that we do need to get on the same page. The main problem in Black male/female relations is that SOMEONE tricked us into thinking each one's problems are the fault of the other. I wonder...who would benefit from such a thing..?
I'm confused about the statement 'black women buying into feminism"
Correct me if I'm wrong but are you saying that feminism is actually a plight to black women, and not an aid? sooo confused. I understand the feminist movement many times swept over black women and was often geared towards middle class white women. But why pretend that the movement didn't help all races in some way..?
----I wish your guest would say what she means by "Feminisim". Does she think it means women not wanting/ needing men? Or does she think it mean something else? If used too much or too easily a term like "Feminisim" can reach the point where it means everything and nothing -all at once.
---I would like to both hear her definition and have her relate it to her (above) comments.
---To my mind the so-called gender war on YouTube is the same crap being put in a different pot.
I agree with Miss Stacia...as far as buying into certain aspects of feminism. The woman should be a self sufficient human being but they should not feel that the woman can survive w/o a man, as she said one needs the other...that's why we have opposite parts, lol. Emasculating a man and degrading a woman are both wrong. If we took the time to respect the different roles each sex plays equally than this "gender war" wouldn't exist.
The biggest problem is...the laws did not balance the genders...the laws gave women an extreme advantage.
...and people with power don't usually like to give it up nor share it. I guess "sharing" it would not be real power...I don't even think men can argue with that.
in the way men think about their roles in relationships. In extreme cases, it has created an anger or hatred. In others, a much more mild form of passive resistance.
Equal pay for equal work, I am all for that. But the reproductive rights are severely unbalanced today as well as quite a few others.
What Stacia said here does support the comment that was made on my page and I think that it is clear that men and women were trained differently and those two teachings have created a division
roles. Women-independent...Men-Providers/head of household.
This is not going to work.
A woman's independence and the current laws that exist to support that independence do cause some men to stay away from commitments(not all men) but many.
It has created an air of "don't piss her off" or else.
Whether a man is on point or not, whether he is a gentleman or thug, the laws are in a woman's favor today. She can, if she chooses, destroy a man in court.
Interesting...a woman left a comment on one of my videos pertaining to some of the things that Stacia said here. She said that men and women were raised differently...and I followed with "differently in the same household".
The comment went on to say that women in the 1940s were unhappy in many cases. They taught their daughters and grandaughters to be independent. Men's adultery was the chief complaint.
The sons and grandsons who were raised by these same women were taught the "traditional"
Commentary is great and I love the way you ladies are discussing the issues...one of the problems that I see is that sisters don't hold other sisters accountable for the non-ladylike things that they do which is something that was not tolerated by women in the community years ago. It use to be Taboo for a woman to sleep with multiple men...wear skimpy clothes..cheat on their husbands..it's acceptable now..so the ladies should police themselves as to hold your pears accountable for this behavior
Of course they should but I have yet to see any commentary from your videos, I could be wrong, that discusses the behavior of sisters as it relates to the overall IMAGE of sisters and the complacency of some to address this issue. Sisters are the mothers of the planet and have a history of being soft spoken, loving, and lady like which has always demanded respect without acting MANLY to obtain it. I'm not saying all sisters are like this, but many have lost their way as well as the brothers.
I do it all the time and I encourage other brothers to do the same. Also...if a black man points out a negative behavior that he thinks is corrupting sisters...why do some sisters immediately say "well white/latino/asian women do that too"? What does it matter what they do...your not them..your OUR women. Negative behavior is promoted by a "you go girl" attitude as to encourage or empower this behavior which I'm sure would make your grandmothers turn over in their graves.
"Negative behavior is promoted by a "you go girl" attitude as to encourage or empower this behavior which I'm sure would make your grandmothers turn over in their graves"
Meanwhile, there are things they've done or put up with that that shouldn't have done or had to do.
While I'm all for community uplifting itself, individuals should also maintain some sort of agency for their own behaviors.
That's the mantra of Feminism which has destroyed the communal responsibility that our Ancestors have always promoted...it's in our DNA...to fight it is to deny who you are...be soft spoken(with strength) like your ancestors...nothing weak about that....my wife is a sister and she embodies every SINCE of the word LADY and does it with grace. Watch anY Francis Welsing video and see what I'm talking about...she demands respect with a soft spoken demeanor that the real brothers MISS...COME BACK...
Your wife's demeanor is just that. Your WIFE'S demeanor. Doesn't mean it is right for everyone. Our ancestors came in all personality types just like we do today. I love Dr. Welsing, So I know of that which you speak. But again, different strokes for different folks.
When I say demeanor I'm referring to the way sisters were raised to be in a general sense. If you were in the presence of your mother..would you neck roll...finger snap..wear daizy dukes..I would assume not because there was a manor of carrying yourself that was understood by ALL and it wouldn't dare be challenged due to the consequences that you would face by the community... This universal PEACE and love in how you carried yourself is what I'm referring to..not different personality traits.
I think I understand what you're saying, but you seem to have an issue with clarity in your responses.
As for myself, I *DO* gesticulate how I please, in my mother and others' presence. I'm an adult, not a child. Do I dress in suggestive clothing in front of them? No, I don't dress in that MANNER anyway. (OMG, I hate being the grammar/spelling nazi but somehow this discussion is bringing that out of me; my apologies everyone).
Again, the examples you're citing are personal things.
LMAO, w/ saying COME BACk like you said something deep, First of all, I've been familiar with Dr. Welsing since before I was even a teenager. You may think you're dropping a gem here, and perhaps for someone else, this would be. You're extrapolating an entirely wrong interpretation of the two sentences I typed.
I am not your wife, not do I know her, and you cannot expect all women OR ladies to behave the same. That's when we become... I dunno...sheep?
Actually my response was just a general statement for whomever it pertains too. If a rock is tossed into a crowd...the person that screams is usually the one that got hit. If your assuming I think I'm dropping gems then I'm flattered that the concept of my statements being gems crossed your mind lol. Don't become offended if my statements don't pertain to you...scan over what I stated and you'll find where I said...SOME sisters...I'm just glad my sentiments were read and not censored...peace.
@ 13:00 I agree with her. This is why Black women are at work place today. Plus you have to considering that even today it's earlier for Black women to get a job then Black men.
Not all black women have fallen into feminism, but a lot have...there are women like me who are independent but knows that I 'need' that good man in my life.....I need a man who can run HIS HOUSEHOLD the way a man is supposed to...Be the man your supposed to be...Just like the woman needs to do her end....I know how to do things on my own but yes Lord, I want a man in my life to help and take his 'role' as the man...but of course that doesnt mean be controlling...
I agree with your friend Black women have brought into white women feminism.
Black men have been trying to get back that title "the rock of the Black family " back from the black women since the end of slavery, but without a blueprint and with the help of feminism, the battle for that title has been hard.
70% i think is way over high because most BW i know are taken but me as a BW i chose to be single because im worthy to be respected, have someone genuine, to be picky because i have alot to offer. it's not easy to find someone who is the ideal love but ion need nobody but my gOtd*m self. i gave up on men but in terms of friendships and things like that we get along fine. HA what is the role of a man and the role of a woman? rOses~ Im a independant woman and like to do ALL things for myself
don't forget the victorian era, where if a man went to war, his wife vagina was tied up with a chain and if he didnt come back there was no key for her. at least that's what i learned in one of my health courses in cOllege. Like women couldnt vote, men get paid more money, even in the bible it was okay for solomon to sleep around but if a woman does she's a hOe
EXCELLENT video. PUL-LEASE pick up where y'all left off. I am one of those independent females that y'all referred to, but sometimes I wonder if I go overboard with this title. Stacia was right though, I do think some of it has to do with me being raised by my mother & grandmother, who were both strong, single, independent black women. However, I also believe it has something to do with my comparison of an independent vs dependent woman.
Touching on the Cheating issue, and the sister saying it is not natural. How do we know it isn't natural if it has always occured. We do know that it wasn't always considered cheating. Now I am not advocating Polygamy at all, but prior to slavery many cultures practiced it harmoniously., and not for sexual purposes, but more of a collective familial support system.
Even systems of raising families were much diffrent in the past and are still diffrent today. There are African communities in which, when a man and his woman have children they give the duties of raising the child to that womens brother. So in essnce every male raises his sisters children. Could it be that everyone is trying to fit into ONE cookie cutter mold, that is not nessisarily effective or natural for them? Just a Thought on that infedelity issue.
Taking that REJECTION out of the equation, most women these days would love to have another female in their home helping them do all of those things that are so taxing and draining. That is why there are careers like Nannies, maids, and traditional midwives that do physically nurse the children etc...
We get caught up in the sexual aspect, and our unwillingness to share that love & physical aspect) keeps people from living that life style but eliminate the sex and think about it.
*Nicole* did you style Stacia becuz those earbobs lQQk familiar ~ Cute!..i enjoyed the dialogue with you guys and this should be a wkly commentary..Stacia is the truth like you:)

Stacia made some great points and the BBDs will definitely be her fans.lol!'
I think men either purposely or unknowingly miscontrue the true message behind women being independent. I don't know too many women who don't want a man to take care of them.
Haitian1130 3 years ago
I agree with you. there's more than one way (financially) to take care of a woman. A dude can take care of an independent woman by supporting her as he would expect her to support him in her lifes goals work related family related etc etc. Just because I can move that couch by myself doesn't mean i want to know what i mean? Just because i can buy all the groceries with money I earned doesn't mean he shouldn't ever buy groceries, right?

But the real thing that have us divided is the drug situation if you ask me
dontadadon 3 years ago
hmm, I really don't think that the impact of drugs divides us per se...

NOT!!!! We have to STOP romanticising the past.
morenabella13 3 years ago
We can't fix this by ignoring the real issues.
morenabella13 3 years ago
And so many of us women believe it too!
morenabella13 3 years ago
Physical strength is coveted, while emotional expression is reviled.
morenabella13 3 years ago 2
---Rather than just focus on slavery, our speaker might be better off talking about OPPRESSION (both past & present). Racism, classism, and all other sorts of oppressions can be / have been internalized and turned inward toward. Though slavery may be the most extreme example, it's not by any means the only one.
IbnSheba 3 years ago
Well, you know you can make your own visdeo and focus on what you deem to be more important. Just a suggestion.
AtlantaSistah 3 years ago
I think it's spiritual. In Genesis the curse on Eve was that she would crave her husband and "HE WILL DOMINATE YOU. " It also goes on to tell the source of the hatred of women. I think the bible is also telling us about the fall of woman. But I also think religious brothers are the worst. They seem to expect to be worshipped. I agree with you Atlanta Sister about women's lib. I don't think we bought into it as much as it was forced on us.
myrna2381 3 years ago
"It also goes on to tell the source of the hatred of women."
I think that's a matter of perspective; another view may be that it laid the excuse for the hatred of women, which is European in nature.

It says that we are indeed human and have never really looked at the overwhelming ramificatons of slavery on our community.
By he way, what are niggs? That in itself is sad.

IbnSheba 3 years ago 2
As far as Black feminism goes...it's a myth in that Feminism never truly applied to Black women because it was not designed FOR Black women.
You're right in your assertion that we do need to get on the same page. The main problem in Black male/female relations is that SOMEONE tricked us into thinking each one's problems are the fault of the other. I wonder...who would benefit from such a thing..?
LLO525Star 3 years ago 2
I'm confused about the statement 'black women buying into feminism"
Correct me if I'm wrong but are you saying that feminism is actually a plight to black women, and not an aid? sooo confused. I understand the feminist movement many times swept over black women and was often geared towards middle class white women. But why pretend that the movement didn't help all races in some way..?
JClax10 3 years ago
Damn...Stacia spitting fire! I tip my hat.
Right now, as far as this so-called "gender war" goes I'll say:
Divide And Conquer.
The rest I'll get to.
LLO525Star 3 years ago
----I wish your guest would say what she means by "Feminisim". Does she think it means women not wanting/ needing men? Or does she think it mean something else? If used too much or too easily a term like "Feminisim" can reach the point where it means everything and nothing -all at once.
---I would like to both hear her definition and have her relate it to her (above) comments.
---To my mind the so-called gender war on YouTube is the same crap being put in a different pot.
IbnSheba 3 years ago
what is your definition?
AtlantaSistah 3 years ago
I agree with Miss Stacia...as far as buying into certain aspects of feminism. The woman should be a self sufficient human being but they should not feel that the woman can survive w/o a man, as she said one needs the other...that's why we have opposite parts, lol. Emasculating a man and degrading a woman are both wrong. If we took the time to respect the different roles each sex plays equally than this "gender war" wouldn't exist.

Part 4
of astronomical proportions.
Solutions
I have no idea.
The biggest problem is...the laws did not balance the genders...the laws gave women an extreme advantage.
...and people with power don't usually like to give it up nor share it. I guess "sharing" it would not be real power...I don't even think men can argue with that.
Good video...very informative.

Part3
in the way men think about their roles in relationships.
KaptanSoloToo 3 years ago
part2 cont.
This has created a huge change in
KaptanSoloToo 3 years ago
Interesting...a woman left a comment on one of my videos pertaining to some of the things that Stacia said here. She said that men and women were raised differently...and I followed with "differently in the same household".
The comment went on to say that women in the 1940s were unhappy in many cases. They taught their daughters and grandaughters to be independent. Men's adultery was the chief complaint.
The sons and grandsons who were raised by these same women were taught the "traditional"
KaptanSoloToo 3 years ago
Commentary is great and I love the way you ladies are discussing the issues...one of the problems that I see is that sisters don't hold other sisters accountable for the non-ladylike things that they do which is something that was not tolerated by women in the community years ago. It use to be Taboo for a woman to sleep with multiple men...wear skimpy clothes..cheat on their husbands..it's acceptable now..so the ladies should police themselves as to hold your pears accountable for this behavior
No1Uknow3 3 years ago
Should the men do the same?
AtlantaSistah 3 years ago
Of course they should but I have yet to see any commentary from your videos, I could be wrong, that discusses the behavior of sisters as it relates to the overall IMAGE of sisters and the complacency of some to address this issue. Sisters are the mothers of the planet and have a history of being soft spoken, loving, and lady like which has always demanded respect without acting MANLY to obtain it. I'm not saying all sisters are like this, but many have lost their way as well as the brothers.
No1Uknow3 3 years ago
That's good advise but if the men don't do the same, things will not progress in any way.
Hajalin 3 years ago 2
I do it all the time and I encourage other brothers to do the same. Also...if a black man points out a negative behavior that he thinks is corrupting sisters...why do some sisters immediately say "well white/latino/asian women do that too"? What does it matter what they do...your not them..your OUR women. Negative behavior is promoted by a "you go girl" attitude as to encourage or empower this behavior which I'm sure would make your grandmothers turn over in their graves.
No1Uknow3 3 years ago
"Negative behavior is promoted by a "you go girl" attitude as to encourage or empower this behavior which I'm sure would make your grandmothers turn over in their graves"
Meanwhile, there are things they've done or put up with that that shouldn't have done or had to do.
While I'm all for community uplifting itself, individuals should also maintain some sort of agency for their own behaviors.
heavenleiblu 3 years ago
That's the mantra of Feminism which has destroyed the communal responsibility that our Ancestors have always promoted...it's in our DNA...to fight it is to deny who you are...be soft spoken(with strength) like your ancestors...nothing weak about that....my wife is a sister and she embodies every SINCE of the word LADY and does it with grace. Watch anY Francis Welsing video and see what I'm talking about...she demands respect with a soft spoken demeanor that the real brothers MISS...COME BACK...
No1Uknow3 3 years ago
Your wife's demeanor is just that. Your WIFE'S demeanor. Doesn't mean it is right for everyone. Our ancestors came in all personality types just like we do today. I love Dr. Welsing, So I know of that which you speak. But again, different strokes for different folks.
AtlantaSistah 3 years ago
When I say demeanor I'm referring to the way sisters were raised to be in a general sense. If you were in the presence of your mother..would you neck roll...finger snap..wear daizy dukes..I would assume not because there was a manor of carrying yourself that was understood by ALL and it wouldn't dare be challenged due to the consequences that you would face by the community... This universal PEACE and love in how you carried yourself is what I'm referring to..not different personality traits.
No1Uknow3 3 years ago
I think I understand what you're saying, but you seem to have an issue with clarity in your responses.
As for myself, I *DO* gesticulate how I please, in my mother and others' presence. I'm an adult, not a child. Do I dress in suggestive clothing in front of them? No, I don't dress in that MANNER anyway. (OMG, I hate being the grammar/spelling nazi but somehow this discussion is bringing that out of me; my apologies everyone).
Again, the examples you're citing are personal things.
heavenleiblu 3 years ago
LMAO, w/ saying COME BACk like you said something deep, First of all, I've been familiar with Dr. Welsing since before I was even a teenager. You may think you're dropping a gem here, and perhaps for someone else, this would be. You're extrapolating an entirely wrong interpretation of the two sentences I typed.
I am not your wife, not do I know her, and you cannot expect all women OR ladies to behave the same. That's when we become... I dunno...sheep?
heavenleiblu 3 years ago
Actually my response was just a general statement for whomever it pertains too. If a rock is tossed into a crowd...the person that screams is usually the one that got hit. If your assuming I think I'm dropping gems then I'm flattered that the concept of my statements being gems crossed your mind lol. Don't become offended if my statements don't pertain to you...scan over what I stated and you'll find where I said...SOME sisters...I'm just glad my sentiments were read and not censored...peace.
No1Uknow3 3 years ago
The lady speaking in the video understands this principle as well...

@ 13:00 I agree with her. This is why Black women are at work place today. Plus you have to considering that even today it's earlier for Black women to get a job then Black men.
lundyncanada 3 years ago
Not all black women have fallen into feminism, but a lot have...there are women like me who are independent but knows that I 'need' that good man in my life.....I need a man who can run HIS HOUSEHOLD the way a man is supposed to...Be the man your supposed to be...Just like the woman needs to do her end....I know how to do things on my own but yes Lord, I want a man in my life to help and take his 'role' as the man...but of course that doesnt mean be controlling...

I agree with your friend Black women have brought into white women feminism.
Black men have been trying to get back that title "the rock of the Black family " back from the black women since the end of slavery, but without a blueprint and with the help of feminism, the battle for that title has been hard.

don't forget the victorian era, where if a man went to war, his wife vagina was tied up with a chain and if he didnt come back there was no key for her. at least that's what i learned in one of my health courses in cOllege.

RevolutionaryINK 3 years ago
Even systems of raising families were much diffrent in the past and are still diffrent today. There are African communities in which, when a man and his woman have children they give the duties of raising the child to that womens brother. So in essnce every male raises his sisters children. Could it be that everyone is trying to fit into ONE cookie cutter mold, that is not nessisarily effective or natural for them? Just a Thought on that infedelity issue.
RevolutionaryINK 3 years ago
Sure the MODERN woman would object to those life styles but that could simply be because they were raised to reject those notions.
RevolutionaryINK 3 years ago
Taking that REJECTION out of the equation, most women these days would love to have another female in their home helping them do all of those things that are so taxing and draining. That is why there are careers like Nannies, maids, and traditional midwives that do physically nurse the children etc...
We get caught up in the sexual aspect, and our unwillingness to share that love & physical aspect) keeps people from living that life style but eliminate the sex and think about it.
