I'm a sucker for a black beauty! Would love to hear the foot fall of this same video. I'm trying to memorize it for working with my mare. Hard to find some videos with good 4 beat and no music.
You are so right about the gentle nature of Peruvian Pasos yet with plenty of brio, sensitivity, and heart as they sure try to please their owner or rider. Thanks!
Thank-you kindly for commenting on Perla. I react the same way at horse shows upon seeing the horses trying so hard to please their riders and the audience, so i know what you mean! Don't feel like it's too late to start riding horses again, especially the gaited breeds as I am about to turn 58 and I expect to be riding well into my late 60's!
This video is wonderful. Your Peruvian is so beautiful that she brings tears to my eyes. (I'm really embarrassing to be around at horse shows...don't know why but the grace and pure heart of these animals just turns me into jelly.) It's probably too late for me to take up riding again, but I am living vicariously through YouTube! Thanks for posting.
pretty horsey. I used to ride my racking horse on pavement all the time without shoes. I only end up putting them on when on the steep roads she would slid a little bit unerving me.
her feet never cracked or anything. pavement is really not as hard as cement back in the day is why they put shoes on in the first place, brick and cement crack their feet, but I say they have to tender and delicate of horses to begin with.
She's beautiful! She looks like she honestly enjoys what she's doing! Very nice job riding her! Do you have shoes on her? I know it is not custom to put shoes on a Peruvian, but I ride on a lot of gravel/pavement and had to put shoes on one of mine. Problem was, she over-exaggerated her termino and she stomped her front feet down, which gave a rather uncomfy ride with a high rise and fall. Once her shoes came off she was very smooth. Someone suggested aluminum shoes. What do you think?

Thanks for the comments. I tried to respond earlier and it didn't take, so this time I will make it shorter. No shoes are on the horse. My Farrier said to limit riding time on pavement to 15-20 minutes with no shoes, so I seldom ride her on pavement. If you continue riding on hard surfaces, I would use shoes but I don't know about aluminum. Riding on softer, natural surfaces is better for horse and rider in the long run.
I am using a paso fino headset without a bit, since I had a new one left from when I had paso finos years back. The person you purchase your paso from will recommend the best tack for the horse, based on the tack it was trained with. Peruvian paso breeders will recommend the official tack that is more elaborate than the simple headset that I have been using.
If you are interested in a smooth horse either the Peruvian Paso or the Paso Fino would be a good choice. I would suggest going to a few breeders and asking to ride one of their horses. Actually being able to feel the differences will let you find out which one is the best fit for you.
the peruvian takes a considerably longer and freer stride which makes it smoother than the paso fino ,there's also many other differences between these two breeds ,they are not very similar at all .
We have both. Generaly the Peruvian is faster and smoother. This makes for a difficult trail ride as the Fino must lope to keep up with the Peruvian when she is 'Traveling'. We train for distance horses.
@sielick They aren't related at all. Paso means "step" in Spanish. It's just a name. The Peruvian horse can't trot but it's smoother and has more endurance. They are also very gentle and their termino is unique. It's a unique horse.
bouncing is for TIGGERS! ...not people...unless they are on a trampoline or pogo stick (etc)!!!
Love the video, your mare is very well gaited! And you are correct, more people need to get GOOD videos out of their Peruvian Pasos, there just aren't enough good clear ones, and half the time people think they are lame (when they look at Termino!). Education needs to be something for us owners to start getting into!
I just aquired a bay roan Paruvian Paso and she is a dream. Perfect compliment to my Arabian! For anyone who wants to know what this breed of gated horse feels like to ride, think of floating. Wonderful trail horse, perfect temperment and ride for beginners too.
Thank-you kindly for the compliments! I hope more Peruvian Pasos will be displayed on YouTube because many people out there are somewhat unfamiliar with the breed and it's gaits.

We had 20 of them here in Eastern KY when my mother was alive. Amazing animals - full of brio but so gentle.
