I recall my dad telling stores about how they rode the boxcars looking for work during the depression. While I have not heard this early Reeves song, this certainly would have been a tune they listened to. Life is fascination and great stories to heard about hard times. This brings back great memories...
@patthechippy I noticed that slip (talk instead of walk) too, and was going to comment on it until I saw you had also heard it. It's still a great version though.
thanks for posting these songs I at times take the laptop to nursing homes so they can listen to their old favorite songs ( makes them very happy ) one lady requested this 12 times before I found it on here thank you . you made her day.
I knew he'd make a bollocks of it, like he did with everything he tried to 'sing'. A bad mistreatment of a country classic, but what a great little band!
@JoeBarcus when i was 7 or 8 years old my father bouhgt an album of country music stars and this was the first time i heard the chet atkins style guitar on this song. i was absolutely amazed. im now 56, i havent heard this song in 50 years and my recollection is exactly the same. only god knows how much ive loved chet atkins guitar playing. what made you decide to post this song? thank you so much for bringing this back to my life.
Great post! Thanks

That is how US Army recruiters looked in the early years of the Cold War. Those type of recruiting uniforms were gone after Vietnam.
