  • Why tHeM whales always gotta be beachin' themselves? =O They are pilot whales so you KNOW they did it on purpose.

  • why waste good food?

  • 'Cause a lot of poor black people don't want the help. And when they are offered help..they get a very bad attitude about being helped.

  • Why don't they help poor black people instead of poor black whales?

  • @GWRevolution2008 Because many small persons making small things can change the world.

  • GRINDABOOOOOOOOOOOOOÐ!!!!!!

  • @HeyPeni :D:D:D

  • @HeyPeni Right!!!!! That´s the best thing to show the world what you do with them!!! The slaughter is going to stop with your help. Just typing that word and the world will see your atrocities.Good publicity for Faroe Islands!!!!

  • @Maryjoends why are you so stupid?

  • @HeyPeni And now you see the good manners Faroese people have.... Think about other way to make publicity of your Islands. This doesn´t work.

  • @HeyPeni Calling people stupid is not a valid argument. I can write more than two sentences without insulting anybody... :)

  • @Maryjoends ok.. what do you know about us?

  • @HeyPeni I just know about me and the images i see with my eyes... You are ruled by your own government, but paradogically, you accept to be supported economically by a CEE country, Denmark. And it´s fair as you are a small community. BUT... the CEE fishing laws don´t allow that kind of fishing and you defy them with your own rules fishing more and more pilot whales every year... especially these two latest years. What can we, the CEE countries, think about ?

  • @Maryjoends Oh, is it interesting for you the opinion of an "stupid" foreigner? here you are

  • @Maryjoends we don't fish whales and we don't kill more and more of them. those who swim through the islands are driven ashore and killed, so the number of whales killed depends on how many come through the islands. Denmark is also a part of EU but we're not, so I believe we're not a part of CEE, which means your rules don't apply to us.

  • @HeyPeni You are right, you don´t kill exactly whales, you kill pilot whales, a kind of the family of dolphins. Last year (2010) the salughter was the biggest in this decade ( I don´t want to bore you with statistics). You are also right: you are not part of the CEE but Denmark is. And you are supported by a "substantial financial subsidy" from Denmark. Therefore YOU ARE SUPPORTED BY PART OF THE FOUNDS OF THE CEE IN FISHING POLITICS.

  • @Maryjoends By the way, you are right again: you´ve got your own rules about fishing, you can kill whales and the rest of Europe can´t (killing whales is banned in CEE). So if you don´t accept our international fishing laws, why should you accept our money that goes through Denmark? No european laws, no european money. It´s easy.

  • @HeyPeni

Right: You don´t accept european rules about fishing, then DO NOT ACCEPT MONEY FROM CEE (DENMARK) It´s fair.

  • @Maryjoends you can't read? we're not part of EU and (as far as I know) CEE! go tell norway and iceland to stop killing whales!

  • @HeyPeni

you don´t understand what I mean although i wouldn´t say you can´t read : YOU ARE NOT PART OF THE CEE!!!! but YOU ACCEPT MONEY FROM DENMARK (CEE) . MONEY BUT NOT LAWS!!!!! A GOOD PROFIT!

I hope someone here can understand me, i´m very patient but it´s the third time. I´m exhausted... HELP!!!!

  • @Maryjoends because we still need money. we're not ready to be independent. why is that a problem?

  • okay guy.... you understood everything.

  • Why don´t they just eat them, I hear they are delicious, and there is a LOT of prime meat on one such 'calf of the sea'. How many people go hungry to bed in South Africa every day?

  • i just watched a video were boats herded them to shore to kill them by the masses......

  • GRINDABOÐ!!!

  • I lived there and love the place they have better food than we have (all organic) STOP HATING

I'd rather live there than here.

  • fuck your organic bullshit

  • Can someone please explain to me why these people are doing it by hand instead of using faster and less tyring machines? Just for info, i know the comment sounds hostile but it isnt meant to be.

    Thanks.

  • why always bring colour into everything?

  • i have a question. why is it whales beach them selves in the first place? is it by accident and they are not able to get back or is it for some other reason?

  • 1 of the reasons is when they are sick they come in to rest but cant account for the tide and get stranded, they often die as there wieght is so much it crushes them when out of the water

  • how thats a lot of whales

  • they should PILOT themselves back into the ocean. stupid whales land is for man.

  • not a single black person? Are you sure this is South Africa?

  • You Must be dumb whites populate the south part

    africa

  • i know. im just surprised that i dont' see a single black person!

  • This is true :P

  • That's because they're too busy stealing white farms and wondering why no food grows there (by itself).

  • that part actually has white people who knew

  • good thing its not in japan

  • ya, lucky whales

  • for real...

  • Wheres Hancock when ya need em.

  • lol they all had to be shot

  • from what i read from the news couple days ago. They were all shot in the head, to stop the suffer. there were 55 of them i believed. Multiples shot in the head.

  • They probably swam down the coast and beached themselves again...

  • Poor whales. I wonder why they do that.

  • Great job everyone who helped save them! Kudos!

  • I would use all my energy and even end up hurt trying to save the whales not giving up. but what good would getting hurt be, I should just focus my energy on actually helping them instead of exploding due to emotional breakthrough.

  • great job guys!

  • its the end of the world!!!!!!!!!naw who knows whats really going on with these whales atleast the africans are going to eat good

  • Amazing!!at what they're doing...I want to volunteer too!!!!

  • This is extremely sad to see, but it is just one of those things that we can't explain yet. As far as I can see these are False Killer Whales, a species that appears to be prone to stranding. In 1928 108 of these stranded on the same beach at Kommetjie. Sometimes it's very difficult to accept what happens in nature.

  • High powered SONAR under water has been proven to cause internal bleeding in whales. The whales then die a slow death, and end up beaching themselves.

  • Saddly, all 55 whales where Euthanized as they continued to beach themselves.

  • Not everyone who helps animals is suppose to be a CHRISTIAN.... i thank them for doing the right thing.

To bad some of those whales didn't make it.

  • yup, they obviously cant be of any other religion. Only Christians would do such nice, unselfish things. God bless them indeed!

  • God bless them indeed. But those of any other religion do many beneficial things that you are not aware of.

  • According to Christianity animals do not have souls, so I would say that Christians are probably less likely to help out animals as they see themselves as above them.

  • -0-;

where the heck did you get that answer. The Bible never say if Animals have souls or not. It's a gray matter.

  • so refreshing to know there are so many kind hearted people left in this world.

  • By the way, this were the hedlines in my country the same day.

The coastline scarlet with blood, Faroe Island locals take part in a brutal whaling event.

A tradition that dates as far back as the 10th century, locals in the autonomous province of Denmark slaughter and eat indigenous pilot whales every year.

More than 200 of the animals were slaughtered in the town of Hvalvik's called 'grindadráp', which translates literally as 'grind', locally as 'pilot whale kill'.

  • These animals were completely exhausted and unfit to return to the ocean!

We freed a calf, while the mother was stuck on rocks. The waves hurt her no more than a tough sports match.

Once freed, she was unable to keep her blow hole up.

Of all the theories, these animals were unable to stay alive in the ocean.

There was no navigation error or disorientation, simply exhausted beyond recovery!

Their best chance for survival was to beach.

Approx. 10 of the 55 may have survived!

  • I just want to add, Darwinist or Creationist, or even a little bit of both, you still subscribe to the fact that the Earth has been through some catastrophic changes and has flourished. What little we have contributed the the Earth's warming is miniscule compared to the awesome power of our Earth's "creative design" process.

  • Or these volunteers are heroes.

  • They are heroes indeed! More than 10% of the pod may have survived! Sad the police dragged rescuers away to shoot the whales. This was completely unnecassary. Next time there is a rescue, keep the cops away!

  • Probably from us using sonar out in the ocean. I heard it causes whales to beach themselves at many locations around the world.

  • The jury is out on the use of sonar and it's effects on marine life. Just like global warming, there isn't strong enough evidence that links the military's sonar to "migrational changes" in our oceans. Most of it is activist hubub and anti-military groups squeezing the govt for funding.

  • The jury is not out on this subject. Up here in LOCKHEED country we know that when they sample sonar whales always beach themselves. Wake up to really dude.

  • really sad, we can spend millions to go to the moon and useless weapons but we can't save earth animals, shameful

  • Some things are within Man's control, it would be arrogant though to think that mankind can prevent or alter the way nature adjusts to it's own changes.

  • Yes you are right and they are, but news stretches so far, whales beaching and sea birds exhausted and dying are proof so far...

  • this is the beginning of pole shift, they are confused to the moving magnetic field! whales and dolphins will beach more often, watch the news.

  • Once back in the water, they wanted to breathe, but rolled over on their sides. They'd bear their heads up to breathe, just like someone drowning. Totally exhausted... There was no confusion or disorientation. If you're right, homing pigeons should get lost on similar scale ... do they?

  • this is awful

  • Comment removed

  • I cannot help but wonder if it isn't humanity and its machines causing this phenomenon. Are we ultimately responsible? Why does this happen?

  • If you mean "humanity" as in an attribute of being human or to have human qualities, then you've answered your first question. Whales have been beaching themselves long before modern industrialization. It is a shame though and I feel terrible knowing that there was nothing that could be done to save the 35 that were mercifully shot.

  • :o)

  • Very true.

  • That is so sad... :o(

  • Sucks :(
