Actually Chrutonius is right.

IF a gas is denser than the surrounding gas it will be "heavier" and sink in the less denser gas.

Ive tried it in a sealed workshop ( no wind ) the butane was sliding on the table and down to the floor.

I your case you're sealing the hole of the can just right to get all the "less dense" air out of it, therefore keeping all the butane in the can.

oh, this is so so easy- density is simply a relation between mass and volume- to be exact density is the mass divided by the volume- therefore weight has nothing to do with it- yes i am aware i an open area butane being denser than air will sink, u can actually take a beaker filled with butane, and pour it into another beaker- try it sometime- its actually pretty cool because u cant see whats going on- u just know it is- but i heated the can prior to filling it, so that there was less air in it
