Great cut! I saw him at a college concert in Alabama in 1969. This recording has vastly better accoustics. Neil has helped my life be 'filled to the brim..' for four decades.
im 46 and my mom took me with her to his concerts even when i didnt want to go , im so glad she did i love him and i have so many memories with my mom
I am from the Bronx, born and raised, and I grew up listening to Neils music, because my Mom loved him. I now have most of his msuic, a huge fan here.
@monkeyhawk In Seattle he was asking for requests. Someone yelled "Shilo" and he said, "We haven't done that in quite a while." I yelled out "Brooklyn Roads", same 'double take' and he said, "We have done that in quite a while" and then with his four piece band he did it.
love me some Neil Diamond, I'm also born and raised in Brooklyn NY Flatbush. It's amazing even to today knowing Neil and Babara Streisand both went to the same high school I much later attended, Erasmus High in Flatbush BKNY... Love you Neil and Babara always!!! *****vid/post! Missu
I grew up listening to Neil (thanks to my mother who took me to all his concerts)...and at 42 I have yet only found a handful of writers who can take me to the haunting, lonely, but beautiful places that Neil's music does. Pain and perfection personified. Love you Neil.
I LOVE this recording.. Interesting fact; I'm born and raised here [Portland], have been to this auditorium many times, he did not play Portland again after 1971 until 1996 (I was at that one) because we did not have adequate facilities for him that had acoustics up to par; our NBA stadium sounded horrible. In 1995 we built a new one, and he came back. I don't blame him for being particular about his acoustics.
I was born 10 years after this recording; what I wouldn't give to see it!
what happened to the Diamond we heard and loved in Hot August Night? He was a truly great singer then...what a voice. Fantastic. But during the 90s...he lost his style and his voice was never the same. Maybe it was just age. I miss that Neil Diamond from the 1970s...no one could sing like him!
I Thank God for Neil Diamond ! Just saw him in Columbus, Ohio and He was Great regardless of the pilchers who demanded their money back .... Its coming to people wanting their money back after a movie they didn't like the ending.... go figure....NOT True Neil followers... Sing on Neil I'll always love you .... Peace !
Since this is so autobiographical, no one else can ever sing it like him. There is a substance of such emotional memory. The guy will be foreever my favorite.
Neil once said this is one of his autobiographical songs and one of his most personal ("I Am I Said" is the other). Brooklyn Roads is lesser known but is my very favorite Neil song. I've been a fan of Neil since high school in the 1970's and still love his music today. Seems like very few artist ever attempt to sing his original compositions -- he's totally unique! I didn't like the way this seasons AI finalists sang any of his songs, but I was happy to see Neil on there!
Neil Diamond is the finest songwriter I know of He reaches into my heart and mind and puts my feelings and thoughts to music What a gift to us all

I was in a Neil Diamond concert in 1970. Back then we still shouted out requests.
I shouted out "Brooklyn Roads" -- one of the moments when the rest of the crowd had stopped yelling -- and he literally did a double take.
I don't know if it was that it wasn't on that night's playlist or if hadn't been planned for the tour.
I think it's Diamond at his most personal, most poetic.
Remarkable song and performance.
