I have given some serious thought to pledging but, at 31 years of age, traditional university "soror" life is not feasable for me. I would hope that a commitment to community service and helping young women would be an option to be met with honor for those of us who would like to offer our service by means of joining via "paper".

Ivy stride, I am from Louisiana and I agree with your statement. I am not even greek yet. But I have ALWAYS said, that ALL greeks should pay tribute to the founders of ALPHA PHI ALPHA, the visionaries behind all greek. secondly, Howard University it self is a GREAT IVY LEAGUE school. ALL that are on the line SHOULD be there...so dont hate if your school cant cross this quantity of a line because they dont have the gpa's

I pledged Grad Chapter, (paper as you say) and my sisters and I were on line for 30 days and developed a strong bond and love for Alpha Kappa Alpha. I would have pledged under-grad, but time and money did not permit it. However my friends did now, they no longer participate...one said after "burning sands" incident, she never would.

If we did, I would've loved to pledge AKA. It's unfortunate that my school is close minded to Greek Life. The AKA alumni association always comes to our multi cultural fair though.

They say it's when you just pay your money and join. Not really going through any pledging. People really just say that cuz they mad cuz they got beat and hazed unlike the one's they call paper, they pay their money and learn what they're supposed to. That's the way it's supposed to be

the pledging process is the most important part of joining a sorority/fraternity.. not only do you establish love for your organization, but you prove your love and dedication to the organization through blood, sweat, and tears.. i pledged and i pledged hard and i would never exchange that for paper

It's not just AKA, I hear all the Greeks have "paper" in at least a FEW of their chapters

Those things are suppose to be about sister/brotherhood, community service, helping people, and having fun.. not gaining respect through taking a beating the longest. I've been to all the black Greek websites and they each are strongly against hazing and suspend chapters if caught.. so if the headquarters(people in charge) accept paper, I don't see why the people can't?

That's exactly why I like the "paper" way... I hear too many stories of young hopefuls being beaten, and put through hell, just to join a botherhood/sisterhood.. what I don't understand is hazing? If these people are supposed to be about "botherhood/sisterhood" why put your future members through that? Why would anyone want to go through hell just for a social club. I don't plan on joining a sorority, but if I did I'd choose paper over hazing... I don't understand why some people frown on paper

I came through Alpha Phi Alpha back in 1997. WE PLEDGED HARD. I got my ARM BROKEN from taking wood. I still have never had any bad feelings toward paper AKAs. Times have changed. I accept it. Now niggaz have no excuse. Paper frat is unacceptable.
