  • Hi Chris, thanks for all the recipes, please check out our page and let us know what you think, have a good day Chris

  • his hands looks different.

  • Thank u so much... my father is from Georgetown, Guyana. My grandmother used to make these for me... After she died, I lived in Canada my whole life, it was difficult to find places that make this type of roti. My mom is French so she does not know how. I will try to make this at home and let my son grow to love caribbean food as I do. He is only 22 months and already loves my curry. People in Nova Scotia, where I live now, have not even heard of it

  • My first time and it was so easy to make!!! Loved by everyone!!!

  • I always wondered how to get the peas in the middle of the roti.

  • Dude crave is an under statement!! :-)

  • Thank you for posting. I miss all of my favorite foods. There is no trini spots here so I make sure I invite people over so that they can learn about Caribbean culture and food. Thanks!

  • sorry i might sound silly but what is all purpose flour ? we have plain all self rising flour watch one should i use ..

  • thank you so much for making this video!!

  • Before filling the dough w the dhal how many ounces would you say that is? About 2-3

  • Best recipe I've seen yet. I will be making this for a party. Thanks alot

  • Thank you for showing this American girl how to make dhalpuri roti. My guyanese husband will be thrilled. His mother no longer makes them and his sisters did not learn how to make them. I am a very good baker and I know with what you have provided, I will make my husband proud. Thank you so much!!!

  • Thank you so much for this video....

  • it's amazing how india has a major influence on guyanese and trini cuisine ... indo-caribbean food rocks!!

  • OMG... thank you for your video... i'm from trinidad and i always asked around how to make the dhalpuri roti. now that i see it .... it looks good and i love how it swell... i have to try it .. will let you know how it come out.... now one day i can do it and surprise my husband... excited to try it

  • Thank you for this. I have a cookbook and I've tried making them, they turned out OK, but your method looks much easier. That recipe recommends soaking the split peas overnight or for a couple of hours before cooking which is a good tip I think. I'm definately going to have a go at this - just found your channel by the way and love it!

  • talk nah..lol

  • Very good tutorial ! I will give it a try, I love Roti too much. i have to learn how to make it.

  • please keep me update of your cooking. Thank you.

  • Chris, I cannot get my roti to puff, do you know what can be causing this. Is it because I am using an electric stove? I get the bubbles but thats about it, and I use medium to high heat on for the burner under the tava.

  • @Augustus212 can be too less baking powder or holes in the roti thats causing the steam to escape rather than swell the roti. also the flour should be needed soft. it should feel very flexible while youre rolling it out

  • Thank you so much, saturday is the day............let's hope I succeed

  • Thank you for this. I always wanted to know how the dahl rotis were made even tho i prefer it without. U're doing a great job for West Indians and our food, Keep Kooking! :)

  • I miss my childhood mainly because of my mom and dads carribean cooking. My dad is from Trinidad and my mom is from St. Kitts. So glad you have this channel so I can cook for my family. I love Roti, especially with curry goat !

  • Thanks for uploading this delicious recipe. You got some good rolling skills bro. does this dhalpuriroti one eat neat or w/ any dip/ sauce/ curry?

  • i have made dhalpuri roti before and i didnt get air in it then it dosent cook all the way in the middle. what can i do to fix this.

  • I failed miserably

  • Thank you

    you are the best

Im so happy I found this

How excited I am to try this... I have to subscribe

  • Hi: Thanks for the recipe. Is it 2 tablespoon of baking powder or 2 teaspoon?

  • @shuam01 For the filling 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon turmeric 2 cloves garlic 1 teaspoon ground roasted geera (cumin) 2 cups split peas (dhal) 1/4 of a scotch bonnet pepper (or any hot pepper you like) For the dough (actual roti) 3 cups all purpose flour pinch fast acting yeast 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoon baking powder water (see note below) * 5 tablespoon vegetable oil (for brushing the roti while it cooks)
  • @caribbeanpot Thank you so much. I will this a shot this weekend.

  • @caribbeanpot thanks for the tip

  • Indo-Trinidadian food is the only food of the Caribbean I like to eat(Bus Up Shut, Spicy Chaofan fried rice).

  • It is important to pay attention to the length of time that you boil the split peas. Over boiling can cause the peas to become mushy and soft rather than have a grainy texture. It is best to constantly check the peas by placing a few grains between your fingers and squeezing it. If the grains crushes when pressed but does not flatten as pulp, it should be ok then.

  • Very nice recipe, AGAIN. Thanks Chris!!!

  • I love dhalpuri roti... oh gosh.. LOL

    Seymone

  • nice video, cant wait to try!

  • Thanks for the recipe, dhalpuri roti making takes practice to get that softness, and I have been wondering whether or not to add a little yeast but never really seen a recipe that does, even in Naparima Girls cookbook and others from T&T. Should the dough be soft and sticky and barely able to touch when kneading? I've used some powdered milk which helps as well. Please keep the recipe's coming.... real appreciate it!

  • Thanks.

  • oooh! thank you sooooo much.

  • oooh! thank you sooooo much.

  • I love this, Oh your hurting me. I must try to make it myself. I must

  • Finally! I have been looking for this recipe for years. Now I don't have to bug my trinadadian friends' parents to make it for me

  • I've been looking for this forEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    hope I can do it.

    thanks

  • Thanks for the recipe Chris

  • this video was excellent. So clear and so informative. I am gonna try it soon. Any instructions for doubles? :)

  • Trini here and love this.

  • all that time you spent fighting the food processor and the grinder could have been done! haha

  • Buss up shut is next boi!

  • I've looked everywhere for this recipe, Thanks!!!

  • I'm so glad u posted this video .....I'm Guyanese & I always wanted to make puri but i never knew the method ...Thank u so much

  • Yas !!! I've been waiting for this one

  • Thanks..... But you know you have to do a Buss-up shut video! That is a must!

  • filling can be really tricky..especially how you flatten the dough before. I make the edges thinner than the centre - it forms likea cup-then really put in the filling. It would be good to see the technique of those obviously experienced hands.

  • I love your videos :)

  • HEY CHRIS, FOR ONE OF YOUR NEXT VIDEOS COULD YOU DO SOME OF THE FILLINGS FOR THE ROTI?

  • @adamwilliamson1991 WHEN I SAY FILLING I MEAN LIKE THE CHICKEN

  • gosh now i want dhalpuri and curry duck.

  • Sweet!

Anticipation of this how-to is why I subscribed.

  • Looks very appetizing!! Thx so much for this video.

  • it is a dahl puri not a roti. Puri and roti ar two different types of indian breads. dahl puri is a puri stuffed with dahl.

  • THANK YOU CHRIS I LOVE THIS RECIPE

  • This is the best and most helpful video that I have found on making dhalpuri

  • THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!
