  • I don't think you talked too much, rather do i think it was really helpful what you said. "The left hand is what you know, the right hand is who you are". That's so true. This explains how Andy Mckee lets his song Ebon Coast sound so good... Thanks for that lesson :)

  • talk too much....

  • 0:00 - 4:18 Oh, I can do that alright

    4:18 - onwards OMGH4X

What's that country song at 4:18 by the way?

  • Comment removed

  • @PackOwolflets It sounds like a sped up and more complicated version of "One Tin Soldier", but I'm not 100% sure.

  • thanks, very informative =)

  • what do these so called guitar teachers on youtube have with their talking...? Your'e good, dont get ,me wrong on that part, but the video would be like 2-3 minutes total without the unneccesary "vocal music".

  • palm mute = smackin a bitch when she talks too much

  • 90% of the comments are saying "I don't want to understand it. Just tell me how to do it." That's not how learning works.

Anyway, what are the names of those songs you played as examples?

  • So big man and so small guitar...

    *-*

  • Respect! Don't listen to these tards man, you are genius at what you do, keep up the good work.

  • just stop talking...

  • Very very nice vid. And I think the stuff he says is very good and helps you get the whole idea of palm muting. For example i was trying to learn how to strum while palm muting, and after this vid, I feel like I could accomplish it a lot better.

  • Really good, but plz cut to the chase next time

  • Really like it ^^, helped me alot ^^

  • JUST STFU!!

  • This is awesome, very in-depth. You idiots obviously don't want to expand your technique... Listen more than you speak.

  • Cut the philosophy and teach me how to palm mute

  • dude what songs are at at 4:20 - 4:39

  • When i do this, I mute the string with the left-most part of my palm.

  • Ok, next time do it on electric guitar with lots of lots distortion.

  • i found this for a friend to help him, I thought it was very clear and presented well.

so many guitar players wank and seethe for lead playing without becoming proficient in any rhythm concepts. this is basic control of a guitar. any dolt can play a lead. playing an intricate rhythm and chord voicing is what separates any given guitar lead cheese-ball from john mclaughlin...

  • You talk far too much!

  • 4:45

"What can I do to change things up down here?"

    That's what she said!!

  • thumbs up if you skipped the beginning -_-

    GET TO DAH DAMN POINT

  • Thanks

  • Your guitar is cute xD

  • SHUTUP!

  • you're guitar's cute...so small..lol

  • @petdetective94 yes it does. be very creative and you might even understand that you can replace the word left with the word right

  • omg ur good

  • the country feel wasn t what i was after, but, that s awesome!

  • okay this just made me depressed that i can't play like this

  • that guitar sounds awful

  • is that a bandade on your finger? :D

  • @onxyia1 it's a finger pick

  • this guys is like my guitar instructer, he knows alot

  • even if this guy talks too much, at least he's one of the very few that knows what theyre talking about

sure you may just want to know what and how to palm mute but later on, all these extra talking will build up in your knowledge base and you'll be able to learn and recall lessons much faster

i for one loved the additional in-between information

  • Sean Hayes "Baby i do"

hey amazing lesson! i really want to play this song, i have no problems with the chords. its "only" the palm muting...is this a harder song to play,or am i just stupid????

  • "Your right hand is what you know, and your left hand is who you are." -lefty version :P

  • i stopped watching when you started playing good

  • can anyone tell me what's the last song he played ?

  • Man, you're brilliant with the strings!

  • you are gud!! i dnt know how many years will it take to be like you...! nice 1

  • Love what he says !

"Your left hand is what you know, and your right is who you are" !! xD

  • You talk tooo much.

Ha. But otherwise, that helped me a bunch.

    Thanks!

  • como se llama la cancion

  • u talk to much man good lesson tho

  • Thank You.

now i know, palm palm palm.

    (dadadadadadad)

  • Thank you very much! You where of much help.

  • that helps A LOT! thank you so much :D

  • Can anyone please tell me the name of the song he plays after dust in the wind?

  • most people that thumbed me down are probably inexperienced players that havn't yet found out that the left hand is used for more than holding down the strings at the right fret... come back in a couple of years when you have found out the true power of the left hand!

  • he is good but i think he aimed for quite advanced guitar players. beginners will sure feel lost and frustrated watching this.

  • Woah!

I've never seen strumming with each separate finger before. I need to learn that some day, but for now, I need to learn palming.

  • I disagree with the quote in the beginning. You bend and apply vibrato with your left hand - that is what really shows who you are.

  • perhaps bcoz hes a finger style expert he mite not be doin too much vibrato..

  • @hampustw The Right hand is your Rythem, the left hand is just there to hit notes and apply a final layer of flash, truly, the rythem of say, Stairway to Heaven. Now if you play stairway to heaven in a strict 4/4 it sounds fairly poor, but if you give the notes just the right rhythem, it has an organic, driving beat that makes it sound good. You can probably change the notes to Coldplay's Clocks intro, but the Rhythem will make the changed song feel like the original, what he says is very true.

  • @RockGuitar1 What you say is true to a certain extent... Sure, stairway to heaven will sound poor in a strict 4/4, but wouldn't voodoo child sound poor without vibrato? You should take a look at some of the worlds greatest guitar players like Hendrix, Frusciante and Stevie Ray Vaughan and see how much their left hand contributes to their sound!

  • whats that song called from 3:28 to 3:39?

  • its "dust in the wind".....he says it afterwards.

  • it is more like a speech lesson........

anyway you are awesome, next time more guitar please.

  • Youre good but you talk so much i need practice dont words..

  • @JoSntgo i like this more that he tries to tell alot of things than just someone who plays a song and don't tell what he do!

  • @JoSntgo So practice

  • gawd this is hard for a fckng noob like me.

and your awesome dude. lol so fast X_X

  • Its sounds so lame when i'm trying palm muting. I dont know if I'm pressing to hard on the strings, but you cant really hear the chords like when he's doing it :s

  • what do you call the thing on his thumb?

  • Thumbpick.

  • Very good vid, metal would be nothing without palm muting...

    Thank you!

    Julian

  • great stuff! thanks

  • i can do palm mute its not that hard but shifting from clean notes to palm muted and then to clean again within seconds is hard for me can u guys please suggest me sumthing to help with that

  • please... name the song? 4:14? please...

  • dust in the wind, in many rythms

  • thanks man! =)

  • dust in the wind !

  • that is sucha nice chet atkins guitar! great lesson

  • great lesson

  • excuse me! i have a question! reply if your there

  • They never reply to questions. I could try answering it if you'd like. I've been playing for about 6 years.

  • thank you shinigamiwolf1!

    ok my question is:

which guitar is easier to learn?

    acoustic or electric?

    thanks in advance

  • Well if you're just beginning, I would say acoustic. It's cheaper. In terms of playability, the electric is easier to learn on but it's much better to start out on an acoustic because there's much more restricted movement and makes it harder to cover up mistakes. Ultimately it's up to you but I would say acoustic. The techniques used are the same on both so it's just a matter of preference. What type of music do you want to play?

  • oh wow man! thanks alot

and really like John Mayers style

then the next day i will like the funk

so maybe : funk, pop (johnmayer style), blues yea stuff like that!

  • Hmmm well for that then I would say definately acoustic. But if you want to play a variety of music then you could go for a cheap electric like a Fender/Squier Stratocaster. Thanks for the invite! ^^

  • i'd say electric. its hard to get over the acoustic and the electric will help u get more chicks

  • The teachers spend their time answering questions for members of the site, which doesn't really give them time to post on youtube.

  • oh ok thanks anyways JamPlayDotCom....
