  • Great player but I dont like this for some reason :(

  • Out of this world, or an example of what humans can achieve. We also need excellence and creativity of this magnitude in other areas outside the arts.

  • god some of those runs he does are insane. i dont know how anyone can do that.

  • You cant lie or fake it when you are improvising, this is the true language of the human spirit. If your don't get it, then you have been deluded by your artificial culture or have Temoral Lobe damage.

  • Why is she talking while i'm tryihng to listen to him play WTF

  • No dude! its mp3 / compression. Wechter builds great guitars . I have one. Similar to this. Maybe your speakers,.,.Im hearing with studio monitors.

  • @boobj The custom Wechters are nice, the commercial stuff is hit or miss.

  • He's the mother of all guitar players.

  • all of you who criticizes this wideo and maestro are stupid ignorants. obviously youve never held guitar in your hands, and know nothing of history

  • way tooo much compliments for this guitaris.. Jimmy Hendrix.. but also people like Chat Atkins Les Paul were more influential than this guy!

  • @Pan3405

    youre idiot

  • @gasparovsky1 yeah.. I know..

  • Audience member knifed at 4:04?

  • Boring!!!!!!

  • Using electric strings.. the sound of the guitar lacks depth!! Only high tones no middle tones.. almost no bass.. I wouldn´t be proud to let the audience listen to this sound..

  • @Pan3405 Nylon strings they look to me.

  • Proof that God loves the guitar and can inspire humans to greatness ... well at least he talented and inspired John to play so he could go and create more galaxies and species ! I credit Intelligent Design, the Bible, John's guitar and beautiful sunsets to keep me a faithful Theist !

  • Ultra - violent. Real horrorshow!

  • the undisputed grandmaster of guitar

    that is violence

    sheer and utter genius

  • fuck....(my jaws drop)

if we're about to record his performance next time..

we need to use fancy video cameras, the one they used for bullets and car chases :)...his fingers are to darn fast!!

  • he was jimmy page' s teacher.

  • THE MASTER

  • MR malmsteen , Are you wathching?

  • what s the point of poking malmsteen?

i bet everyone who does that r not half good in anything as he is on guitar

  • Yngwie's great but damn wouldn't it be great if he'd break out of his harmonic minor coma and wake up. He hasn't improved since Rising Force. I saw an interview with him and McLaughlin together so they know each other. McLaughlin should send him a free DVD and force him to watch it Clockwork Orange style.

  • @deathwagon94 Granted... WingWay Malmsteen should be watching.

Alhtough, this is way over his head.

  • this man taught Zakk Wylde how to play.

  • if he did than zakk wylde is a terrible student haha

  • Zakk missed the part about NOT playing gay pinch harmonic squeals every third note.

  • yes. Mc Laughlin uses alternate picking(picks EVERY note) in his solo runs.

It seems to be an exeption when he uses some of his percussive effects like he does in this piece. It combines two or more strings with hammer on and pull off and open strings..

  • Dear mr hermofride you are correct about the rythmycal percusive patterns in this particular piece, although, the fast melodic,(flamenco as you put it) runs, are a sure production of the pick hiting EVERY note. It is characeristic of his playing and is most notable when he uses nilon strings such as in this concert, i.e the picking is obvious because of the of the particular resonation of nilon, herin wich hamering and pulling during the runs would be obvious, unlike a steel string.

  • when this pattern is repeated it will sound percussive and flowing. It must also be done with hammer-on and pull-off. Then it can go really fast without too much practice. The right hand is not picking every note, therefore it gives this flowing impression. it sounds more difficult than it actually is. But it is brilliant! I think this reflects some of John`s influence from flamenco-guitarists.

I hope this note could be helpful :)

  • The tecnique he uses at 9.40 and other places : He seems to use the 3. and 4. string on the two first notes.

The first notes(attack) is on the fret, the second is open strings (D and G), and the third is the open H and E string together.

  • si si eso mismo dije

  • he's tuned very low..i think that's a whole step down..makes it easier to play and bent faster

  • yeah that move is wicked/ good god/

  • what the fuck! what the hell is that move he keeps doing, the one that happens at 9:40 at the end and a few times before that....christ! thats outrageous!

  • I think he uses triads or two notes in the interval of 3 minor and major, and plays the rythm in triols (I am not sure about the correct English word)3 equal notes in a 8 beat.

  • The word you mean in English is "triplet."

  • Yes Exactly, triplets !

  • haha look at 3.03 his fingers move so fast it's blurred

always loved his acoustic playing. so articulate and graceful.

  • dammit, shut the german bitch up

  • @di1an:

haha, yeah, that voiceover is real crap... ;-D (i'm german) - anyway, at least it's a little bit of information for those who don't know mcLaughlin

  • I keep watching this video in particular for inspiration in my guitar playing - but I wonder if you could upload the rest of the concert? John seems in tremendous form, and Paco's always fantastic.

  • holy shit;

  • ich meinte natürlich den wort-beitrag !!!

  • sie hörten einen beitrag vom schulfunk !!!

  • wow

  • Shure don't call them the greatest gutair players for nothing!

  • John Mclaughlin is one of my favorite gutair players.Aboloutely incredible solo. They sure dont call them the greatest gutair players for nothing.

  • improvitation!!!!!!!

  • er...Yeah!!

  • Do you know when this was recorded? Obviously in the 80's sometime after the guitar trio, prob late 80's. I seek a specific date if possible.

  • I

    Date: 8/?/1987

    Place - Venue: Berlin, Gemany

    nice concert!

  • I THOUGHT I WAS THE BIGGEST FAN OF JOHN!

  • I am John Mclaughlins biggest fan BUT I think that has lost his marbles on this one! But...Still greatest.....

  • YES, sometimes he looks like you say but he´s improvising all the time. Anyway you can see parts of his great music on it. for example part of thelonis melodius, the mediterranean, reincarnation and more...

  • Seems like you could hardly wish for anything better than ten minutes of John Mclaughlin improvisation.

  • Dude!? This is awesome.

  • fantastic! Thank you!!!, i hope what you can upload the piece With Paco !!=)))) Thank you!!!!!!

  • I´ll try upload some videos of John. Anyway the piece with Paco is "chiquito", "spain" and part of "florianapolis". More will come...
