Out of this world, or an example of what humans can achieve. We also need excellence and creativity of this magnitude in other areas outside the arts.
You cant lie or fake it when you are improvising, this is the true language of the human spirit. If your don't get it, then you have been deluded by your artificial culture or have Temoral Lobe damage.
Using electric strings.. the sound of the guitar lacks depth!! Only high tones no middle tones.. almost no bass.. I wouldn´t be proud to let the audience listen to this sound..
Proof that God loves the guitar and can inspire humans to greatness ... well at least he talented and inspired John to play so he could go and create more galaxies and species ! I credit Intelligent Design, the Bible, John's guitar and beautiful sunsets to keep me a faithful Theist !
Yngwie's great but damn wouldn't it be great if he'd break out of his harmonic minor coma and wake up. He hasn't improved since Rising Force. I saw an interview with him and McLaughlin together so they know each other. McLaughlin should send him a free DVD and force him to watch it Clockwork Orange style.
yes. Mc Laughlin uses alternate picking(picks EVERY note) in his solo runs.
It seems to be an exeption when he uses some of his percussive effects like he does in this piece. It combines two or more strings with hammer on and pull off and open strings..
Dear mr hermofride you are correct about the rythmycal percusive patterns in this particular piece, although, the fast melodic,(flamenco as you put it) runs, are a sure production of the pick hiting EVERY note. It is characeristic of his playing and is most notable when he uses nilon strings such as in this concert, i.e the picking is obvious because of the of the particular resonation of nilon, herin wich hamering and pulling during the runs would be obvious, unlike a steel string.
when this pattern is repeated it will sound percussive and flowing. It must also be done with hammer-on and pull-off. Then it can go really fast without too much practice. The right hand is not picking every note, therefore it gives this flowing impression. it sounds more difficult than it actually is. But it is brilliant! I think this reflects some of John`s influence from flamenco-guitarists.
what the fuck! what the hell is that move he keeps doing, the one that happens at 9:40 at the end and a few times before that....christ! thats outrageous!
I think he uses triads or two notes in the interval of 3 minor and major, and plays the rythm in triols (I am not sure about the correct English word)3 equal notes in a 8 beat.
I keep watching this video in particular for inspiration in my guitar playing - but I wonder if you could upload the rest of the concert? John seems in tremendous form, and Paco's always fantastic.
YES, sometimes he looks like you say but he´s improvising all the time. Anyway you can see parts of his great music on it. for example part of thelonis melodius, the mediterranean, reincarnation and more...
Great player but I dont like this for some reason :(

The tecnique he uses at 9.40 and other places : He seems to use the 3. and 4. string on the two first notes.
The first notes(attack) is on the fret, the second is open strings (D and G), and the third is the open H and E string together.
