  • wow coming up on the 4 year anniversary of this lp.

  • After watching this let's play a while ago, I've been waiting for the origins remake to hit PSN. I saw it today and instantly bought it. $10 for the two games.

  • This take me a while back. I had this game and the console, well nostalgia now gonna chill and watch this series, thanks for share sir.

  • i just bought this one for my ipod... i chose the theif for my second, and he's doing very well.. i guess they boosted him for the remakes

  • This FF is simple. 3 black belts and a red mage. Done. Incase anyone is still playing this classic.

  • I've only played the 3D Final Fantasy games. Favorite is easily FFIX, amazing game. Can anyone recommend which 2D Final Fantasy game I should try first?

  • @gekkman34 Yeah no doubt if you want to play an old school 2-d FF you need to play FF2. I think it's FF4 in japan. But that is still my fav FF to this day even beyond the 3d ones.

  • @guanxingpingyu Perfect, I think I actually have that one. It came with my Playstation version of Chrono Trigger.

  • hjgsdfgg,i have this game on my shitty samsung hype phone, and the graphics were better, but it can't play sound effects and gameplay music at the same time :s

  • dammit, I was the 111112th viewer!

  • Have you ever thought of re-recording these now that you are funnier :P ?

  • What emulator did you use? I've been trying to start my own Let's play, but my emulator flips out whenever I try to record. Could you tell me which one you used?

  • Man I first watch HCBailly LP Final Fantasy 7 It's so freaking confusing! man I can't wait to see FF13

  • @johnkane455 please tell me you aren't thinking 13 is better than 7, not like i think 7 is the best cause its not, but it just sounds like you are, oh and 7 really isn't all that confusing, it explains the whole story by the end of the game.

  • @1UPPepper no im not. I mean for me i like cant find the right spot to go to though!

  • they totally fixed the system for the GBA, sad though they made the game easier -.-

  • HC i have the PSP version and i swear its easier then the FForigins game is it true or am i an idiot?

  • @PortsmouthSk8ters its true The Origins Game actually Upped the Diff.

  • @Darkwing2335 I knew it i played origins and then i played PSP and i was this has to be easier

  • My team usually is Fighter, Red Mage, White Mage and Black Mage

fighter and red mage can dealmost of the heavy attacks. having two healers in the party isnt that bad of an deal and having black just for attack magic

  • Just completed XIII (I mean as in all side missions and every achievement sans the treasure hunter one.) and plan on now playing through each FF game in sequence. I'll be playing the PSX version of this one. I just hope the guide is transferable. I'll also be playing PSX version of II but III shall be NES original. Should be a fun little marathon if I manage to keep it up.

  • i just got this on my phone. its epic.

  • ahh the days of yester year, wish i could of been their great stuff much support!

  • @wishcraft4u2

I partially agree with this as ultima is surprisingly a great game series that is pretty obscure(at least from what I have seen)

  • Ultima did this way before Final Fantasy. Just by its premise, Ultima IV is more interesting than any FF game has ever been.

  • I watched this to see if I could get into the final fantasy games. Good job making me go download this on my Wii!

  • i can't hear anything your saying

  • I was going to pay threw for the first time on the GBA, What should my team be? I was thinking Fighter, Thief, White Mage, What should my 4th be? Or what is a good non over lapping team?

  • @Freshboot Your 4th should probaly be a red or white mage if your going for a balanced party.

Good luck, and if i'm too late to influence your desicion, Well done!

  • @Freshboot i would go with the red mage because he is a 3 in 1 deal

  • ohhhh so 8 bit thearter is based on final fantsy i c now :D

  • does anyone elese think that grandmas theme from the legend of zelda windwaker sounds like the castle theme in this game?

  • @HCBailly it seems so weird watching this series after watching the FF9 LP, you just seem so, quiet lol, but its a change :) It's odd as well when you have a slightly different outro like sometime you change it, stutter or cut off to early :P But it shows how far along you've come :) Out of interest, is this the first LP you did?

  • So a red Mage is black and white Mage combined as well as a fighter?

  • Your voice is a little low...but I don't mind

  • But the story suuuuuucked! I mean c'mon, 4 orphans randomly get power from a crystal and it tell them to save the world!? PLEEEASE! so what you said makes sense. (man, this is a pretty good conversation!)

  • @roxasmanable (I agree! :) ) Yeah, I think FF3 was a textbook example of a game that is meant to showcase gameplay, if not so much a story. Contrariwise, FF6 was showcasing its storyline, which is arguably the very best in the series - either way it's my personal favorite story. I remember as a kid being floored by how adult-oriented a lot of the themes were, for a 16-bit JRPG. The battle system was also very awesome but it wasn't meant to be such a focal point as in FF5

  • @roxasmanable As for 8, I REALLY love the soundtrack, the art style, graphics, CG, etc. etc. Basically, great presentation overall. But (to me, anyway) the plot has SOOO many holes and just plain silly moments - like the whole Laguna & co. side-story, which strings you along for HOURS, actually affects your characters' stats outside dreamtime, and ultimately amounts to zilch. That whole storyline can be eliminated and change nothing whatsoever about the main story. (your thoughts?)

  • @roxasmanable Although, I must give credit where it is due: as much as I hated 10, I thought the Al-Bhed language was an interesting idea and it actually didn't sound half-bad. It even had a decently realistic Indo-European sound (I'm a linguistics major, actually, and was impressed with how the Al-Bhed equivalents for particular English consonants were, believe it or not, real possible sound changes that really CAN occur. So it didn't sound like utterly ridiculous gibberish.

  • @Suolperos yeah, 8 did have a lot of plotholes. My least favorite was when Squall and Rinoa were in space and some random spaceship was sitting on the couch and saw them and said, "oh look, people, i better go save them." If you ask me that's is pretty convienent. --__-- and yes, i liked 13 (i beat it). Though nothing special, it was enough to keep me interested. And i liked 10 A LOT! though free- roaming was cut down a bit, it was a good visual and musical game.

  • @Suolperos and the language was pretty neat. overall, i just think that final fantasy really got good at IV. Even though i kinda didn't like it. V was aa wierd story with awesome gameplay mechanics. VI was my favorite with story at 10/10. But gameplay 9/10. VII is pretty nice but way too overated. And I thought it was pretty anticlimatic. VIII was pretty cool besides plot holes and some bad gameplay kinks and sidequests (DRAWING!!!) IX was very good and way too underated

  • @Suolperos But it was fun, the music great, story great, but it's the character designs that really get to me. It's liked some anime show about incest. i mean nothing in that game looked normal. X was really fun to me and had a interesting, but hard to follow. Like, i wasn't paying attention at the beginning and then halfway through i was like wait these are flashbacks!?!?!?!? XI was okay, but too much like world of worldcraft than final fantasy.

  • @Suolperos XII was cool but too different. XIII was cool too but the story almost made me spontaneoulsy combust it wass so confusing. XIV was meh :C oh yeah i almost forgot, X-2........ AHHHHHHHHHHH *shoot myself in the head* and that's my synopsis on final fantasy IV-XIV so overall good series

  • two more examples. final fantasy 6 was about a girl joining the resistance to defeat the unjust empire by collecting espers and eventually has to save the world with lots of twists and awesome things. But it had a case of final fantas iv, with great story, but hard strategy. compared to final fantasy III, which had a very awesome battle system with flexible customization. (ONION ARMOR!!!1!!)

  • @roxasmanable Have you played 13 yet? To be fair, I played very little of it but am thinking maybe I was too hasty to write it off based solely on my old disappointments with the new FF games. One of my favorite parts of any traditional RPG is a good, detailed, big-as-fuck freeroaming world map - which is one of the reasons why FFV is my favorite - 3 interconnected world maps! Frickin' awesome. But anyway, FF10 really pissed me off by taking away the freeroaming aspect of the map.

  • and looking for thins was SOOOO annoying. if you don't find and equip just the right stuff for your characters, you're gonna get pwned! so it does make sense that you say the odd ones are gameplay and evens are story. Cause XIII had amazing gameplay, but kind of a shitty story. But final fantasy XII had a pretty awesome story, but annoying gameplay kinda like kingdom hearts but harder.

  • wellllll 4th favorite my favorite is actually final fantasy 5

  • @roxasmanable 5 is my favorite of the original series, too :D - with 6 in a very, very close 2nd. I just love the sheer flexibility to customize SO much of the characters' attributes (and how, unlike FF8's GF Junction system, it actually MAKES SENSE! lol)

  • @Suolperos TELL ME ABOUT IT!! LOL

  • @roxasmanable Funny thing too, back when V was still only available as a fantrans rom or an import, I recall most opinions of it saying that it was "bland" and "forgettable". Not bad, mind you, just not outstanding in any significant way. This is from a character/story development perspective. But the gameplay was given very high marks for being so versatile and customizable.

  • @roxasmanable Actually, I also recall reading an observation of one fan a while back who said he thought the odd-numbered games had the most innovation in gameplay, while the even-numbered games focused more on the storyline.

Honestly though, I don't really agree fully with that observation (FF2 for the NES was very innovative both in story AND gameplay), but I can see how he came to that conclusion. And I don't think his idea would apply after FF6.

  • @roxasmanable Except for 8, 10, 12, and 13 - imho, they ALL try far too hard to be too innovative... I disliked 10 the most. As for 12, I WANTED to like it, I really did, because I really dig the art style. It's among my favorite art styles in the series. But the battle system just ruined it for me. It was like some mutant-spawn between menu-driven combat and button-masher combat...

But that's just me... what about you? Which games in the series drove you batshit crazy, if any?

  • @Suolperos if i had to say... final fantasy iv. This MAY surprise you and even though the story was great, the music unforgettable, and villians and enemies KICKASS LOOKING when you fight theme! fighting and secrets is what really got to me. The combat system really focused on strategy and using the right magic spells and stuff. (there's even a book later in the game that tells you the enemies weakness like kingom hearts with the beastiary.)

  • this is my favorite final fantasy game and my favorite let's play of hcbaily's :D

  • I love how the king calls for warriors of light but gives them no armor or weapons to do the job, or at least some money...something....if that happpened today people would tell the king to go f*** himself and go to the bar or something

  • The invisible person reminded me of a time when me and my friend were moding fire Ellen 8 and we some how made the main character disapear

  • what game is the name minh from?

also im playing the PSP ver. ive got

    Fighter/Knight=Desh (FFIII)

    Red Mage/Red/Wizard=Durion (Orig. name)

    White Mage/White Wizard=Mikoto (FFIX?)

    Black Mage/Black Wizard=Kokkol (FF????)

  • @EzioAuditoreXIII Minh is from FF2

  • @ff2paladin *Googles* oh, Minh is Min-Wu

  • How is this final if they made 13 more?

  • @mason0190

The company that made it was about to close, that was the last game they were going to make, if it failed then it was bye bye for the company. The named it Final Fantasy because it was their hope to solve financial probelms.

  • @mason0190 Square designer Hironobu Sakaguchi named it "Final Fantasy" because he was about to go bankrupt. Had the game not sold well, he would have quit the business and gone back to university.

    says wikipedia

  • @mason0190 Did you not listen to the first fucking thing he said>?

  • The start of a great let's player! I think i will watch all the final fantasy's in order for the next few months to see the evolution of HCbailly.

  • @silvershade23 Thanks. Note that I did not LP them in the order in which they were released.

  • @HCBailly You sound a lot like your brother in these earlier LPs now that I think about it.

  • In the iPod version, my Theif does more damage than my Fighter. My Fighter has a Broadsword and my Theif has a Scimitar.

  • I miss your enthusiasm :S

don't be depressed HC, she will back...

  • i just bought the final fantasy remake on the psp, should i keep this party, or should i change it around, because i'm pretty sure intelligence actually matters, but it might not, since it's still final fantasy 1

  • @DoubleXIII I'd recommend changing it around, since INT actually matters in the PSP remake. You COULD keep the party in this video, but the Black Mage becomes a much better user of Black Magic than the Red Mage.

Since INT actually mattered, I just stuck with Fighter/Red Mage/White Mage/Black Mage. You can basically swap out Red Mage for thief/black belt/whatever, though picking your party is up to you.

  • is there eny way you can still get this game

  • @jackster1302 e-bay, the internet, and as part of Final Fantasy Origins or the PSP version. :P

  • The first video where his conclusion was "This is HcBailly, signing off, have a great day!"

  • Full circle. It saved, and is now ruining square, with the online game.

  • im new to your lp,s but from what i can tell you sound a bit like norm mcdonald

  • @waterking179 i kinda hear it

  • imho white mage > red mage, more healing casts and can cast nice spells like heal, harm, and life 2. I don't really don't remember whether red mage gets exit.

and yes, the red mage can cast all the good black magic spells, which consist of fast

  • @KarateKidX It really depends on your playstyle (and if you have another rdm in your party..if you only have one healer it should be whm). Heal and Harm 1 are useful early in the game, but so is having a better physical attacker and better defense in that slot. Harm 2 is nice, but Fire 2 accomplishes the same thing and I've gone through games where none of my characters died, plus Life2 is endgame; you have plenty of healing by then to get b with Life1. I love Fr/BB/RDM/RDM parties

  • Ah the first let's play I watched by HCBailly. That was almost 3 years ago now. Time flies. I think I'll watch this one again today :)

  • @Pyropuncher im stalking you btw >.>

ff1 looks really bad :/ sorry

  • @KryZeeHD The game is almost 25 years old.

  • @Pyropuncher i know :D

and the series has come a very long way since then which is really good :D

im just not used to it being so...blocky? lol

  • @KryZeeHD the first game is more fun than many of the later games.

  • @Pyropuncher haha same i think i subscried to you do you make minecraft mod videos???

  • @Pyropuncher Woa Pyropuncher :O! If hes subbed to this guy, he must be good, so subbed!

  • @Pyropuncher I agree with you Paul.

  • @Pyropuncher Same for me! This was the very first video I watched from HCBailly and I thought I knew this game inside out (much like FF4), but I was WAYY off lol. He's definitely improved my strategy when I take on the FFs again.

  • Boy it has been looooooong time since I've played this... ahh... old memories.

  • FF is famous for its cliches

  • Why not Snow for the fighter lol

  • Was the INT stat fixed for the PS1 version? Because when I saw this LP about six months ago, that was first time I learned that it was broken in the NES version-- and between my brother owning it, and my having my own copy later on, I've had this game for twenty years and never knew that!

I started a new game on the PS1 version because I wanted to essentially play a version that otherwise had the challenge of the NES version, but with a working INT stat.

  • @tehredmage wjat do you mean original? There's more than one version?

  • @DoubleXIII The psp version is like.. what would happen if they made this game in the 2000's instead of the 80s. MP is back, the enemies aren't as hard or numerous, and the npcs tend to give you more info on where to go, what to do and all that.

  • 2 fighters, red mage, and bl.belt

  • I haven't beat this on NES..its definitely the toughest version of the game

  • you know whats fun to do....

creating all the final fantasy 1 characters in microsoft excel

oh and is the psp version this exact version?

  • Offensively I think the best party is 3 Masters and a Red Wizard. The Red Wizard can cast Fast on the 3 Masters and the Masters... wow watch out

  • @MDrummer7 That sounds like a pretty rad party although I prefer a bit more variety just for fun.

  • @MDrummer7 It's good for boss battles, but for most of the game you're going to be struggling with keeping your HP up until you get the heal staff and helmets.

  • @RockBanned Just buy lots of heal potions and you're alright, you'll have alot of money from not having to buy lots of expensive equipment, not to mention you'll still have some healing power with the Red Wizard.

  • It's unfortunate as to how unbalanced the classes and enemies are in the original version of this game. Obviously, back in the days, Square didn't have the kind of math talent on its designer crew that's needed to come up with good battle mechanics. At least some of these problems were fixed in the remakes.

And it's really annoying how many spells are bugged!

  • real players win with one single white mage!

Single Black Belt is also fun, but at the end of the game he is pretty overpowered.

  • Is the Final Fantasy Origins, a re-mix for FF1 & FF2 ? Not sure about that. (PS versions)

  • @Kerns0Phoegon FF Origins is FF1 and FF2 remade. The main difference is the graphics are improved, and also some of the annoying parts of the battle engine is "fixed". Everything else is basically the same.

  • black mage is the best character

  • lol it's funny that even though the remakes are out you're paying this one

  • Original is always the best.

  • the characters for this game are

    Dune=fighter

    Spud=b.belt

    Jojo=red mage

    Leo=black mage

  • @MultiDarkstar24 LP of D

  • @MultiDarkstar24 straight up!! :)

  • @MultiDarkstar24 duane and brando

  • @MultiDarkstar24 You my friend, have won the internet

  • you sound tired

  • is this the first ever final fantasy game because i was looking for a lets play of the first one :/ reply pls and if this isnt the first ever game could you tell me where i can find a lets play of one?

  • @vi4ssassin This is the first. Released in Japan in 1987.

  • @vi4ssassin Yes,might not have a built storyline, but it looks good. The melody playing is also used in the title screen in Dissidia.

  • @vi4ssassin Yeah this is the first one, I've actually only got the remake for the PSX, so I wanted to see what the original looked like.

  • Is it better to play NES version of FF1 or PSX version? I know that GBA version is much easier than both of them...

  • @Paar86

Old school gamer here says FF1 on NES, there's just something awesome about the original although the re-done music on the new version is great.

  • @Paar86 The ORIGINAL MSX version. Try it.

  • once the last game... now a long running series...

    :D

  • Comment removed

  • Tela = Tellah

  • people love rpg games

  • it WAS suposed to be squares FINAL fantasy lol their final game,,,cuz at first square made action games but they kinda sucked at it so they decided to make an rpg so hironobu sakaguchi or wutever wrote the story and ironicly called it final fantasy xD

  • everyone hates the thief but the fact that he can run 100% from any battle you can run from is amazing

  • @the0vermind why everyone hates the thief??? when i played it on my psp i took the thief and it was great

  • @NotSoMuchEmoGuy i dunno i seen a list where the thief from FF1 was rated one of the most useless characters in any rpg but its not true and HC baily says why take the thief when he sucks begging half of the game where the hardest dungeons are but he can run 100% from any battle your able to so that helps a ton in dungeons

  • @the0vermind well yeah but i almost never run from any battles only the ussles ones that woul give meh nothing but sure everyone has their own opinion ^_^ ,,,and besides i love pain riku and yuna as a thief in ffX-2

  • I love you're videos!

  • OMG YOU ARE NOT AS LOUD IN THIS VIDEO! I CAN BARELY HEAR YOU!!! 9 VIEWERS CAN'T HEAR WHAT YOU ARE SAYING!!!

  • I feel the red mage somewhat useless at the end of the game, I mean, at the end of the game, the white mage has even more hp than red mage. Also, the black belt has abysmal defense, and I find him somewhat boring. Also the red mage gets no lvl 8 spell charges, which have the best spells of the game: wall (protection against all elements) fade (non elemental heavy damage) Lif2 (brings a dead character back to full life) and nuke (best non elemental magic damage to all enemies).

  • Personaly my favorite party would be: warrior+thief+white mage+black mage. The warrior for obvious reasons, the thief, because some times fights are too hard or you are near death and you havent saved. He flees from almost every fight successfuly. And his ninja promotion is pretty useful. He can cast Fast, which is incredibly useful, and does tons of damage. The white mage heals and pwns undead. The black mage has easy elemental damage.BW and WW can do good damage with thor(WW) and cat claws(BW)

  • lol now story really

  • is this a full playthrough? i mean that by like ultimate weapons if there are any?

  • hey HCBailly, was this the very first LP you did?

  • @sallyprue He did Arcana first, then this one.

  • Sorry for this troll but I couldn't resist. Red Mage is a piece of crap because you can't learn the stronger spells so you're screwed later. White Mage is essential for healing, so you definitely want him.

  • @psychoboo13

I don't think so. Red Wizard can use cure spells like White Mage (heal power doesn't depend on INT in NES version) and can use basic damaging spells (FIR3, ICE3, LIT3). Red Mage/Wizard is more useful for our party. Furthermore, black magic 8 level spells not so useful =/

I've played FFI six times, and my favourite party is:

Warrior, Warrior, Red Mage, White Mage.

I don't like Black Belt, because his power is not so big at the beggining of the game, but BB - useful class.

  • @psychoboo13 or her o.o

  • First time i played this i named my dudes john paul george and ringo.

  • @kittehfoodz BEATLES #FTW

  • damn, the volume is low. still will watch this LP. so I went from VI, IV, VII, V, and now i'm at the beginning. As you can now tell... I can't read roman numerals to save my life.

  • wow i am watching this LP again after DW2 and i forgot how much HC's loudness has increaced over the years

  • This is your best lets play IMHO.

  • idk theres something about the colours of this game that make me wana barf but in the end its not the graphics that make a good game, its the gameplay.

  • Who is Mihn based on?

  • @SpecialAgentKato

    Minhwu from final fantasy 2

  • @trollshamanpwnage

    Thanks

  • I once named the characters "This", "game", "is", "good", lol.

  • god i hate being born when i was i have played every final fantasy but 3 and 4 and i cant seem to find anywhere to get those games

  • @ROKONandRELY If you really want to try those games then your best bet is emulators. =P

  • Regardless of the enthusiasm level in this video compared to his more recent videos, I really like how you deciphered the job classes in this game, HC. I played with this party once, and I actually thought it was the most efficient party to complete the game in almost every aspect. Sure, some equipment found in the later dungeons were put to waste due to lack of a Ninja or a second Knight, but it all balanced out in the end. Well "played", as always.

  • So basically they said "Lets put all our money in a room, lock it, and give the key to the prince of a country we cant easily get to."? Great idea guys!

  • The second time I played this, I used a Fighter, Thief, Black Mage and a White Mage. Most of my boss fights consisted of my Black Mage casting Haste on my Fighter, then stacking Temper spells in addition to that. It resulted in my Fighter having insanely effective physical attacks with the Thief usually supporting with weaker attacks and the White Mage healing the party occasionally.

  • holy shit man you sound so different here

  • u know ur stuff...i didn't know about the intelligence not ever working

  • hey. you made this on my birthday 2 years ago.

  • @guitarheroman202 imagen its the 22th of january.......*FLASHBACK*

    ..Happy Birthday :D

  • omg i luv this game

  • WOW, didnt realize how much more enthusiastic HC gets from FF1 to FF8 hahaha

  • what game is better ff 1 or ff 2 ?

  • Whenever I went through this game I just had to go through with the Nuklear Power team, meaning Fighter, Black Mage, Thief, and Red Mage.

  • I forgot HCBailly used to be so monotone in his commentary back in the day.

  • SO DEEP HERE

  • @supermac18rocks36 agreed. its getting a bit deep in here, isn't it?

  • Somebody might have already said this, but apparently that one chick is invisible because they accidentally programmed her as if she was inside a room (notice people appear and disappear when you go in and out of doors). If you could go in a room and then some how exit without using the door and then go up to that area, you'd see her.

  • your lets-plays are among the best of the best. I'll always have a special place for you right next to chuggaaconroy and Jammo2000....

  • the 2nd greatest lets player

  • @nbts5n2 whos number 1

  • @JCarl89 necroscope86

  • @nbts5n2 ha so no lordvega for u lol

  • wow the town name sounds like corneria

  • hey HCbaily the final fantasy was the final game for square at the time it was such a huge hit it saved the company thus makein tons of tons of FF for you to play HC

  • No weapons or armor and they expect you to save the world! That was really funny! Also I never knew there was an invisible person before?!
