@TheLexanatorOfficial A lot of people have been burnt by the wax fuel cell which has fell off and they have caused a lot of fires from the wind blowing them into flammable surfaces. They are beautiful things to see but people do have to be careful. There are some lanterns out there which are a lot safer compared to the originals but just look at it in a logical way, they are flying flames that are unpredictably flying about. Just enjoy them whilst you can.

people who keep saying the ufo sightings are lanterns are wrong. All the lights in the video (and the ones I seen personally) don't move like these lanterns at all. People hav reported lights that dance around and change formations, lights that move closer then go far away in an instant. Lights that move against the wind and go any direction. That's not how these lanterns work. Real lanterns clearly "bob" in the air too, most "ufo" sightings report static objects.

@MrRandomWindstorm No. It simply floats back down after the candle's burnt out. But with winds you may never find it since it can be miles away. The newer biodegradable ones are best for the environment, since they disintegrate rapidly after they land and are made of flame-retardant material. I would release them over open bodies of water where there are no trees or bushes nearby (traditionally done this way in China) and when not windy.

There is a difference between these and UFOs. With the UFO's, you'll see lights coming out from within other lights. Almost like they are giving birth to more lights and they glow red. But if you were a bunch of nerds and losers who had no life, you would get together about 3-400 of your nerdy friends to pull off a ufo hoax. But that takes a great amount of work to do to hoax something like the "Massive - UFO- USA- 22th October 2010" video.

dude this has been my thoughts exactly ever since i learned of these...I've even seen RECENT footafe of 4 distant lights about 4 miles AWAY from a military base 4 lights not side by side spread about 25-50ft apart at different altitudes were spotted over a tree line and a ki caught it on film. I watched it yesterday right here on youtube...What if 30-50% of the sightings in the last 10 years are thse things (watch someone read our comments and the UFO community starts talking about it)

Some people wonder about the possiblity of causing fire. So let me clarify one thing. Once these lanterns reached a certain height, the fire would go out due to the low temp and the lack of oxygen. I have never heard of a fire caused by this kind of lantern so far. Not that it is totally impossible. Just that it is very unlikely.

The music is from a Heavenly Melody album: Suzanne plays Heavenly Melody favorites on Erhu, or something like that. (the Chinese erhu is that 2-stringed, violin-like instrument you are hearing) I think the title of the song is 平安夜裡真平安 (the peaceful night is very peaceful)

Sky lantern does cause fire. It is only because Pingxi is surrounded by hillies that are humid during winter and spring, no forest fires have been caused by felt sky laterns. However, playing sky lanterns in other places might endanger the environment.
