I loved the world of Fraggle Rock & miss Jim so much. He was such a gentle, gifted soul who shared his wonderful talent with all of us. I am grateful we had him for a while. This song is so sweet, makes me want to dance.
I loved the world of Fraggle Rock & miss Jim so much. He was such a gentle, gifted soul who shared his wonderful talent with all of us. I miss him, too.
Cantus is in NYC right now, as part of the Jim Henson's Fantastic World exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image. Everyone should go to this, it's wonderful. Much love to Jim Henson, the man who taught me to dream. <3
This has always struck such a chord in me. I would love to find the sheet music, find another oboe player and do this--just out anywhere. It speaks to the world.
@Coolyfett: He was on another level, but he was clear-headed. On the same platform as "Mister" Fred Rogers, who was as honest and true as one could get (ex: the man single-handedly saved a fledgling PBS from the axe & theives who stole his car immediately returned it upon knowing from whom they stole). "Uncle Walt" too, would be on the same steps, if only he didn't smoke, but then, smoker or not, the man behind Mickey knew how to write for all ages as well.
Saw this on the Hub and haven't heard this song or any fraggle song in 15-20 years but instantly remembered its melody as well as other fraggle songs. My brother had the same reaction (we watched it together as kids) he hasn't seen it for just as long... I think Fraggle Rock had a great deal to do with his now career as a music educator and my work in the music field. I'm always amazed at the great stuff continuing to come out of the Muppet workshop. Jim's memory will live forever and a day
This is such a testament to Jim Henson's creativity. Not only is this song amazing, but there are so many little touches that surround it, making it even more a pleasure to watch (true with most of his work). The pipe entering the shot before Cantus, the flowers opening, the way the Fraggles look in wonder and amazement (how can a cloth-covered hand can show emotion?), the surroundings, the colors, I could really go on.
I really miss Jim Henson, but I feel so blessed to have seen his work.
They just don't make them like this anymore. I grew up with this, and was literally glued to the screen like I was a little girl all over again. I saw this on the Hub, too and had to find it here again. I can't get this song out of my head.
@hailfairgoddess "play me down on the ground, song comes singing from the midnight places" while playing a phallis with a giant shiny jewel on it to flowers who open up at the tip of it.... slightly suggestive! haha
I think this was the only character Jim Henson played on Fraggle Rock. Man, that guy was a once-in-a-lifetime legend! We haven't had a man with his imagination since Walt Disney. God bless, Jim.
@Bitsy83: Ummm...Jim came AFTER Walt, but I get your point. Both were caring and understanding geniuses in their respective fields, even if the same audience enjoyed them both.
Its to bad Disney bought Jim Henson Co. They probably provide a lot of support, and have not muddled their creativity so far, but the company has probably lost a lot of its freedom to make their work as accessible to the public as it could.
There is enough interest in the Henson things that no longer air, that they could reinvigorate interest by offering Fraggle Rock, etc online for free (an educational gift.) I doubt Disney would let that happen as long as they saw a dollar to made from it..
Disney only owns the Muppets. Fraggle Rock belongs to the Jim Henson Co. Sesame Street belongs to another group, but I can't remeber their name at the moment and don't feel like looking it up.
@AriGriffin243: This may be, but despite the former CTW and Disney buyout of the Street and Muppet brands, they and Fraggle are STILL Jim's vision and so, are forever tied to him.
@crock703 I agree.Sadly,I doubt there will be anything like this or any old Jim Henson show ever again. But they live in our hearts, and that's all that counts, right?
I would love to get the sheet music to this song. It is hauntingly beautiful. Thank you for posting it. I wish there were mp3s of all the songs from Fraggle Rock so we could get our favorite songs. The CD collection doesn't have all of my favorite songs.
@pemdas927: There've been a couple, but sadly, they've been out of print for a while. Perhaps now with the series on DVD, the comics getting a full ahead of steam, and the movie forthcoming, CDs or downloadables aren't in the too far-off future.
I've always been a big fan of Jim singing (preferably Dr. Teeth over Rolf, but still). You can mimick his talking voice (maybe), but not his singing voice. That's the main reason Y I still miss him so much.
we wander this boundless rock of ours finding fraggles in distant caves... when we are near, they sing a fraggle medley... we are near. we are here. :) xo
I loved this so much as a child, It saddens me when I see my niece watch Dora with that "I'm the Map" song in comparison to the detail and effort Jim Henson would put into a single episode of Fraggle Rock.
My 9 year old LOVES Fraggle Rock. As I did as a kid. It was so delightful to see these on the store shelves starting a couple years ago. SO much more educational, interesting to the kids, and fun that much of the current kids' programming.
If they wont continue doing the Muppet Show, at least continue Fraggle Rock!
