your cold is probably more like a symptom because i remember when i had my little girl i got congested and had a really bad stuffy/runny nose around 22 weeks that didnt go away until about 36 weeks.
The pillows and blankets are for exercises you and your hubby do on the ground For example, Practicing pushing, Massage techniques and other things :) Thats what we ended up doing with ours!

the blanket is for you guys to sit on and the pillows are to lay on when they show you the different ways to do massages when your in labor.- thats what i used mine for when i had my class.
