I would hesitate to give the Kennedy boys too much credit. Take a look at the correspondence and tell me who was of more sound mind during the crisis. Kennedy or Krushchev. Actually JFK's immediate response to the missile crisis was military action that included bombing and invading Cuba. In the process thousands of Cuban, Soviet and American lives would have been lost. It was after several day of debate that Kennedy finally conceded to the blockade action. He was also initially against compromise over the Jupiter missiles installed in Turkey, and once again he was wrong.
