  • cannabis ode

  • so amazing song. it's one of my favourites written by Paul :)

  • Am I the only one who finds this song really, really surreal?

  • @ultraviolence6655321 no, because it isn't at all.

  • @JingleJoe I don't mean at face value dumbass, I'm referring to the overall mood and choice of lyrics. "fixing a hole where the rain gets in, stops my mind from wandering." You don't really think Paul was singing about literally repairing a roof do you?

  • @ultraviolence6655321, yeah I think so too, the mood is quite hypnotic.

  • Genius artists, They have helped me so much.

  • A bit of Beatles trivia: all the people in the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album shown above, except for the Beatles themselves, are cardboard cut-outs.

  • @masterdonny89-That's good advice. No idea what it's worth to a collector, but probably more than 10 bucks.

  • I love listening to this song on headphones.

It sails on vocals, navigated by the bass line and drums over a

distant harpsichord and eloquent guitar work.

  • Hey Beatles fans. I have a very unusual never used plastic inflatable bean bag beatles chair, covered in Sergeant Pepper artwork. Do you think I should put it on e-bay or maybe one of you is interested? True thing. Not lying. Only one I've ever seen, but since it's plastic they must have made more than one, but I inherited it from a hard core Beatles fan who treated it like a very rare item.

  • @embization how much??

  • @embization I'll give you 10 bucks.

  • @embization you should ask good friends or people you can trust that would know what they are talking about how much it costs, then sell it on ebay.

  • Harpsichords are cool.

  • One of their best songs in my opinion

  • I have been a musician for 30 years . I have loved the Beatles through all of those years. And through my growth I would always come back to them at some point to learn something new. Quite frankly they are the Chopin of their genre

  • @mlmr11

Great analogy. Chopin the master of Romantic piano, the Beatles of romantic pop. Don't think Pepper was the equal of Revolver, but Fixing a Hole is the equal of anything on Revolver. Love George Martin's hypnotic harpsichord and Harrison's leads. If you haven't already visited Alan Pollack's website in which he analyzes every Beatles song recorded...I found it fascinating.

  • It's George Martin on harpsichord, without a credit. Truly the fifth Beatle, never took a credit, never took a royalty payment (not that the Bealtes ever made a pile). Love the guitar solo, which goes down so low it's nasty.

  • they still havent fixed the hole in Ringos pocket...

  • You must be a real artist to write this peace of sourealistic art.I am sure that not even Paul understand the value and the meaning of this song, this is a god-given talent. The song can mean nothing and everything. When i'm listening it i feel like i am the nowhereman

  • Harrison's Guitar lead fits this song so nicely.

  • Since it is the 1960s everybody says "drugs" but the lyrics strike me as deeply introspective in a philosophical way....sad yet hopeful acceptance of life/reality. Rates with Tomorrow Never Knows; more Zen than LSD-25.

  • @yellowbrickroadss1

Paul has said it was just about literally fixing a hole in the roof of his cottage up in Scotland, and he was never shy about admitting, for instance, that Got To Get You Into My Life is his ode to pot.

  • I'm not one of those kinds of people who likes every video he sees. I only like videos that are LEGENDARY to me...and I like this one!!

  • 4 people must fix a hole in their souls for not liking this masterpiece

  • @thesaintoz That...and STOP listening to Justin Beiber!

  • great song to listen to when it's raining :D

  • Fixing a hole in your dry wall: Carpentry with Sir Paul McCartney.

  • @sparkytrick tahe thing is paul probably knows how to fix a wall

  • @elvispresley718 Probably. George definitely did, he built most of the garden on his property with his own hands.

  • how is this not a hit single

  • George Martin played the harpsicord

  • @Richard2003 i wonder if the beatles had been produced by phil spector or somewone as great as he how different the beatles would have sounded

  • I love the description, "Paul's Fixin A Hole"

Ohh really I thought he was fixing a broken...thing idk lol I just saw it and laughed

    Loveee this btw(:

  • i,m decorating to this bad boy tonight. lol

  • ...and stops my mind from wandering...

  • what video

  • stoned as fuck what a happy weekend

  • The words FUCKING AWESOME are not enough to describe this song...

  • what can you say other than these guy"s were the best!!!

  • Sheer genius.

  • i pretty much only listen to rap/hip hop, buts its still awesome to go back to the classics.

  • eek! i love this song!!!

  • My beatles fav song.

  • A classic song from what is (in my opinion the greatest album ever! I'm glad there is no video because it means high quality audio and none of that annoying waiting around while the video buffers!

  • its better and higher then overrated yesterday, pauls another good song

  • I'm glad there's no video. Nice to just listen to the song. Thanks.

  • psychedelic!

  • These songs never get old, always fun! I take the lyrics literally, so I don't think they're about drugs. He's just fixing his roof!

  • @Frankiarmz It is indeed an ode to pot spoken by Paul himself

  • One person needs to die...

  • whos the cocksucker who disliked this

  • @Adamillionaire987 LOLLLL lets track that fucker down

  • I remember my mother singing this song when I was really little, like 6 years old.

I remember wondering, "What is this song about?"

And then I learned what drugs were.

  • 1 person didn't get through his door

  • This reminds me of being nine or ten years old......lovely!!!!

    =)

  • the 1 person who doesnt like this is the guy who shot john lennon

  • Did you hear George's and John chorus 1.33 to 2:37

  • I'm painting my room in a colourful way, and when my mind is wandering --- there, I will go ...

  • flashback i was told about

  • John played bass on this song.

  • 1 person didn't fix a hole

  • First time listener - It's good :)

  • @Ingridthepoet any can fall in love with the beatles even if it's there first time listening to them

  • @happyface262 not first time listening to them...just the song ^^

  • Is this song about heroin. Isnt that what a "fix" is?

  • @phoneix91

apparantly it started off about fixing holes in the road and just became this. Don't think it has anything to do with heroin (or any other drug for that matter)

  • @simski222 maybe they were on heroin when they thought of it. That sounds very drug related the way you said it.

  • @phoneix91 No.

  • @phoneix91 Happiness Is a Warm Gun does, but thats a whole different story

  • @phoneix91 yes this song is about heroin but the funny thing is paul only tried heroin once . but john was an addict .

  • Great song...and God! Paul has such a great voice!

  • @johnnyponny4 Fuck off ya cunt

  • This Beatles song never fails to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. What a classic.

  • I write songs I do not expect the listener to know where I am at the Time all I hope is they take something from it..It means to you what it means that's all folks

  • CRAP!! i pressed the dislike button!!!!!! IM SORRY!!!!! that was seriously an accident!!!! :( i hav failed the world. im gonna go cry now.... =( This is a Great song though.

  • @PauIsAlive just another victim of those who miss the like button ;_;

  • @DmonkeyD1994 i know... :(

  • @PauIsAlive hahah so you're the one

  • A song about experimentation with Heroin ?

  • @Tobacc0 Paul had a hole in is roof in real life and that's what the song is abt.

  • @HaWkBeAtLeSnElSoN that sounds to me like some cheesy line spouted in reply to a reporter(if theres a vid?) or if not that then atleast it is personifying it(a roof?)in his mind and the roof triggered that metaphor of something he had been thinking and had thought about.

  • Me 2

  • Can I fix mine too---Where's the R12

  • Paul said he was high on weed and the roof was dripping.

  • woa! one year from last comment?!?!!!!

  • love the sharp guitar notes in this song! (at least i think they're sharp)

  • haha u know wats really funny?

this song is about him and herion!

  • this song is so perfect

  • Marijuana built this song - it all it's perfect glory...

  • A girl on American Idol did this song tonight

  • I think she did a great decent job with this song. Very indie and relaxing version.

  • yeah, I thought it was good too. haven't heard this song for a while and that's why I'm checking it out on youtube.

  • They're fixing a hole in the track at the Daytona 500 right now. LOL!

  • Paul McCartney the best of the beatles is still alive

why don't they show him any appreciation

I guess when the looks disappear

    so do the fans

    samething happened with Billy Joel

  • he has a huge ego

  • so what? he deserves to have a huge ego. Hes awsome.

  • One of my favorites of Paul's on Sgt. Pepper.

  • I LOVE the start at the song,

i cant get it out of my head (and who's saying i want it out :D

  • Oh, and THAT bass!!

  • One of their best songs. It's all about the details: the harpsichord, the jazzy guitar licks and solo, the ever-changing drumming pattern and cymbal work...

    Brilliant.

  • This record was ridiculously beautiful. It was a shocking revolution in pop music. It made all other pop music look and sound flat and two-dimensional. It was a glorious experiment that crushed the definition of popular music forever. A horse of a different color. It was grand and lush and impossibly alive. It brought my weak soul to life. Really, friends, it was the apotheosis of the Beatles-in their glory, in their wisdom, in their joyful attack on songwriting conventions.

  • @1dantown oh my. well said. did you ever work for Rolling Stone mag? were you around when this record came out? what else was popular at that particular time? if you indeed did experience it, i would love some insight on the time period. :-)

  • No one likes Carl. it's meant to sound just as it does here.

  • A guy told me this song reminds him of me. =] What a great compliment.

  • @igotaquestionmark I don't know, it sounds more like you're his sex partner.

  • @dalluc Nope, not at all. That's what made the compliment even better.

  • @igotaquestionmark I think he's saying you have a loose pussy.

  • @Fishdogpigsquirrel Cheap laughs for trolls.

  • @igotaquestionmark Who says I'm trollin?

  • Anyone noticed that from 0:50 to 0:58 the guitar plays the same way as the brass section in "Good Morning Good Morning" from 0:45 to 0:53?

  • they do that a lot in their songs

  • I heard this song for the first time some days ago. I was immediately amazed. This is BRILLIANT.

  • me too

  • why the hell is everyone talkin about lucy in the frickinsky with frickin diamonds?????? it is fixing a hole!!!!

  • lucy in the sky was a fake comfort song. tangerine trees and crap yeah its sounds like an LSD trip but really do u think you could write down this crap while ur stoned? its a comfort song to make people feel better. (dont get me wrong there was obviously drugs involved with its writing, but the song isnt about an LSD trip)

  • You wont know whats obvious about drugs till you try em.

  • This is one of my favorite Beatles songs

  • Anyone getting the remastered cd+dvd box set??? I am, I'm also getting The Beatles Rock Band.

  • i wonder if the beatles ever new that they're music would still be inspiring 15/16 year olds in 2009, 40 years after their prime?

  • i always thought it was about shooting up.

  • phineasgauge, its about paul mccartney actually fixing a hole in the roof of his house in scotland where the rain got in

  • Where the heck did you hear that? There is always an underlying meaning.....fixing a hole means to replace your state of mind to an altered one.

  • well if you knew anything about beatles songs there are several songs that sound like drug use but arent for example lucy in the sky in diamonds it was about a picture that pauls daughter drew

  • Dude, you're an idiot! Everyone and their mother knows that's not what it's about. Yea, I know nothing about The Beatles...I've only read several books on them. Believe whatever you want.

  • pauls son... drew

  • Go home, you're drunk. And I've heard that shit story, only it was JOHN's SON who soposedly drew the picture. But that was just a cover up, it's about LSD, we all know that. Not trying to be mean man, so please don't take any offense.

  • John's son actually--Julian Lennon.

  • Actuali it was John Lennon's son who drew a picture of this girl in his class whos name was Lucy. Julian showed the painting to his dad(John Lennon) and told him the painting was called "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" because he drew the girl with diamond shaped eyes. He had many other paintings but never named them. He named this one because he had a "crush" on the girl.

  • Damn typo.

  • it's also an ode to pot. this was said by paul mccartney himself.

  • fuck you laughmaker

  • A wonderful Beatles classic.

  • lol.. everyone has got their own opinion live and let die bro

  • Got this one on my mind today...Thanx! :^)

  • This really is excellent sound! True stereo!! Thanks for a great job on a classic.

    BEATLES FOREVER

  • yea, i know...

  • @stewartcopeland13 are you serious!? why are you responding to this smack. haha. maybe it would have been rad if you'd made a video using scenes from twilight or something..

  • @stewartcopeland13

No, that's all right. I like just listening to the music, and it streams better as just audio.

    Thanks for the post.

  • @laughmaker44 It's the quality of the music that counts and this delivers when you don't have your iPod handy.
