  • Joe always has the best band behind him.

  • how does he do all this playing in the dark with shades on??

  • @w416 Cause he's a badass who doesn't need to see the frets.

  • Shame that he never plays it live anymore

  • This song is distilled essence of badass.

  • Awesome.

  • Incredible musician....totaly underated with the mainstream...thats why I am not with the mainsteam....Joe deserves better

  • @bozo47p thats so true man... hes my idol. although hes slowly gaining some steam with the mainstream with chickenfooot and all. but its a good thing I suppose. GO JOE

  • reminds me of a Tribute to Robert Fripp and King Crimson the track "red" and yeah kashmir too ! awsome track ! Im in Amsterdam now !! Wish Satriani was here!

  • reminds me of Kashmir by Zep, just a tad

1000 years ago anything east of Venice was the Orient -

  • more middle eastern than oriental....

  • A lot of what most people consider to be middle eastern or European is actually Oriental..... Siberia is actually part of the Orient.

  • Great live tune. The SBM tour had such an awesome setlist. Wish I could have made it to one of the shows!!!

  • can you remember that set list? because I saw him in 2002 and I can't figure out which tunes he played!!

  • nice guitar/nice clothes (=!!!

  • really one of my favourites this one !

feel sorry no to have went to his show that tour, outstanding, no words for it ...

  • this song and friends. are there any other drop d songs by satch? i can't think of any

  • Time Machine intro is drop D tuning

  • @exbarman Train Of Angels

  • @exbarman as well up in flames :)

  • @sharemywealth1000 up in flames.

  • @sharemywealth1000 also Friends is a drop D song

  • With a nod to "The End", the Doors...

  • The intro sounds like it was inspired by Jimi Hendrix 1983 A Merman I Should Turn To Be, listen for the train coming through, only Hendrix and Satch can make their guitars evoke so much.

  • i love his guitar !

  • I heard it was his sister who draws on some of his guitars

  • what effect did he use starting 0:43?

  • feedback

  • Flanger or Chorus

  • agreed. sounds like a very short flange

  • phaser too

  • the end the doors 0:00 to 0:41

  • saw sach many times but did t see him on this tour, one of my all time favourit songs of satriani, super great sound, thanks for sharing this, GREAT !

  • this is some good footage i often wondered how he could pull that sound off in a live setting and Joe does it again.

  • yea, that's always quite amazing ha:P

i love the sound of this one!

  • beautiful

  • This man is my Hero, i wish i could play like him, but, i will just leave it to a true Guitar god

  • i want his guitar! great track

    SATCH RULEZ

  • Joe! You are so cute! Will you marry me? =)

  • You are all privileged to have Joe in our time. After he is gone, he will still be seen as a revolutionary just as Jimi Hendrix is now. Hail the KING............

  • Wow!!! Never seen this before

  • looks like this is from a dvd or something...anyone know what its called? Ive seen most G3 live and satriani solo live dvds and ive never seen this before

  • It was a live webcast in 2002

  • It is pretty high quality but it is not from an American released DVD for sure otherwise I would have it. Wish I knew where it was from cause it is a great video.

  • It was a webcast from the SBM tour in 2002

  • Thanks! I didn't get to see it the first time.

  • Great track but the track title is completely out of whack... This melody is not oriental but rather South Asian, Middle Eastern and Persian flavor. I know this because I lived in all three regions. Joe, you are awesome, but this is a bit amateurish.

  • South Asian, Middle Eastern and Persian flavor.

So stupid! Regions that are staying in the East of the planet!

    DUMBASSS ¬ ¬ Go study Geography ^^

  • Oriental not equal to middle east.

I think you have to look it up and stop advertising your ignorance. Or maybe you need to understand English so you can understand my comment. middle east is nothing like far east, which is consider oriental. I know cuz I lived there 15 years. I suppose you just read about it.

  • Orient : East

    Occident : West

  • .

El principio se parece al tema de los doors, the end.

    .

  • My favorite song from this album "Oriental Melody" , no It's got to be "Mind Storm", then again "Hill Groove", maybe it's "Belly Dancer". I'm so confused how do I pick a favorite song?

  • Drop D tuning rocks!

  • Just wait til Coldplay rips this song off lol

  • lmao

  • @reddracken

nah, it was barely same sounding. AND it was only a second... who resorts to that? i don't listen to coldplay but stop bashing on them...

  • @TommittajaFIN How can you say such a thing? The main melody was completely identical! Granted Satriani played it, while Coldplay used it as a vocal melody but it was the same melody over the exact chord progression.

  • @JendaHrbac

mm... well, i've only listened to coldplays "version" of it once, so... but who really DOES plagiarate? no-one would resort to that... :P (how do i spell plagiarate?)

  • @TommittajaFIN Their guitarist is a big Satriani fan, so the melody might just got stuck in his head and he might have thought it's his idea. That's what I think happened.

  • @JendaHrbac

yeah, probably... i once thought i had an idea, and it was just the terminator theme a little differently :P

  • At least this is one of the few real guitar-artists that got recognition...

  • he started back in 1986-87 though... took long enough but I totally agree with you... long live the satch

  • El sonido no es para tirar cohetes, parece un VHS antiguo...

  • Aguante esta cancion, se zarpa la melodia!!!

  • So many cool melodies in this song!

  • DaBossk, I think that comment proved that the fuckhead is, in fact, you. It seems to me like someone who has trouble grasping english should not request it in such a brash manner. Please leave the internet, we don't want you here.

  • I know i'm 5 months late, but please, if you're going to comment on someone's English then at least have the courtesy get it right yourself.

"It seems to me THAT" not "like", you fool.

  • Also, pencil is correct, "english" is spelled "English".

  • i really love this song \o/

  • How can some americans be so dumbass to think the entire world has to turn their faces to north america's bellybutton?

    Fuck you, illiterate dumbass.

  • Me: Fail.

  • brazil is in south america :P. Learn to tolerate other cultures.

  • You mean "type english"? You fucking jerk off.

  • joe vc é o cara

  • This reminds me of the desert.

  • Ya, Arabian desert.

  • good

  • He never plays songs from this album anymore.

  • what a great piece of music.

  • Its not easy to achieve this level of both technical and compositional mastery!!!!!

  • what an amazing guitar.

  • I love the album this song is from - Strange Beautiful Music. One of my fav...

  • yeah its really good.

  • I meant he is one of the best to have picked up this instrument.

  • Joe Satriani is totally underated. To me he one the people to have picked up the guitar.

  • true man..this album is sooo underrated. It deserved more!

  • Is this a DVD?

  • too shit quality for a dvd, probably recorded from TV onto a VHS.

  • i got the new album today its brilliant!

  • Mna--I love rhe paintjob of his guitar--very cool.

  • Great vid--Thanks!!

  • Exbarman - I don't know where you got these vids from Strange Beautiful Music, but they are AWESOME! Its a pity these songs aren't more popular for his concerts because they are some of the best compositions of all his work. Oriental Melody, Belly Dancer, and especially Mountain Song and Mindstorm blow me away every time. THANKS!!

  • @JoeDog345 If you see Satriani enough times live you will eventually hear him play just about everything he has ever recorded. I never cease to be amazed at the stuff he busts out at his shows. I have heard him play stuff I never thought he would do live. But then again, he is just that damn great.

  • one word: WOW

When is the sheet music coming out??

  • this is the end my only friend the end.....search for doors the song ''the end'' and you will hear the intro

  • wait that was ment to say

  • Dude, where can I buy this DVD? Is it a DVD or what??

  • Ah, alas! Many thanks for posting these SBM videos.

  • There was never an album for this show was there?

  • 2002 Strange Beautiful Music - it's the opening track

  • I think he meant live album.

  • Yeah, I meant live. I'm assuming there was never a Live in Amsterdam album?

  • no there wasnt. :(

  • great song
