  • Nice Video

  • That was great. Thank you for posting. Beautiful train, music and layout. No shakes, no speeding train, and no banjos. So refreshing.

  • Ditto on the consist info, but it sure looks nice with all 4 domes on the hind end!

  • Almost looks like the real thing! Impressive!

  • For the California Zephyr as it appeared in 1949, some 40s or 50 jazz would have been much more appropriate, not European-sounding classical music.

  • @WhatTheHeck5205 At the time J.S. Bach composed this piece, "Americans" were still ... "expat Europeans". So this music is also your heritage. ;-) Music is all a matter of taste. And the choice of that Prelude is mine.

  • @tvnshack I just normally don't associate "classical" with "Zephyr." Now who makes it in HO?

  • Beautiful just like the original one in real life.

  • Excellent: music, train, setting and proto photos. The only improvement would be to move it all to my house. Bill

  • what scale was the train

  • ... As it's told in the title: "HO model RailRoad". HO, then.

  • i just love the zephyrs , nice layout

  • bach - street prelude?

  • awsome train

  • My Girlfriend s dad was an engineer on the Cal Zephyr on the Feather River Route, I think in the late 50's early 60's,

  • Terrific video. Thanks for the Bach. It was a perfect match for the train. Well done.

  • train leaves the last car behind at 1:09 lol... GREAT VID THO...

  • this is a beautiful train! however, it would be nice to see a CB&Q power lol.

  • Congratulations! great job :). It´s a beutiful train. I guess you spent a lot of money on it. I also loved the bridge at 1:01 and 4:15.

  • love that Observation car. looks great

  • an unusual answer :) what is the name and the composer of the music of this video?

  • No problem: It's J.S. Bach ! BWV 1006a. BWV designates the catalogue for all Bach works. One number for each piece (Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis). For Mozart, it's the Köchel catalog. There are several catalogs of Beethoven (Hess, Kinsky). Glad you enjoyed this piece of musical art.

  • Thank you very much! ihih I wouldn't imagine that is from Bach :)

  • @tvnshack I thought you incorrectly labeled the musical piece because it sounds like a direct transcription of Bach's Cantata No. 29. But I stand corrected; great musical find!!!!

  • @kiddnormal I'll look into that cantata, but even UTube found it out with the BWV I gave and proposes you to buy it on iTunes ... where I bought it myself long time ago. J. Williams is not the only interpreter for this piece but he got it best. Thanks for dropping by.

  • This is totally awesome. Well done!!

  • Thanks ! This year we won't attend new shows. We're adding a new track to double the existing track. It'll be a DCC only track. We've already started the bench work.

  • I'm really impressed. Its odd though, I have never found a dome observation in HO Scale. Either there dome or observation. Where did you find it?

  • Hi, Thanks for answering, I'm the owner of that train.

Dome & dome observation are Broadway Limited, they are the best I know. But you can also find dome observation in Union Pacific ( yellow, gray) made by Walthers from old Rivarossi dyes) and Branch line made CZ cars with a dome observation without interiors.

All except BLI are difficult to find now.

  • Hello tvnshack, is it your home? or a exhibition?

  • Hello cpafranck. It has been shot during a couple of exhibitions. The club doesn't have a "home". The layout is modular. It's been built a couple of sections at a time (over 15 years) and final adjustments are made on the spot when fully assembled.

  • nice trains and nice music.

  • Thanks ;-)

  • great clip

  • Thanks Rusteelee

  • No 6/5 sleepers until 1952.

  • Thank you for these great precisions. With the earlier comments of russelelane, we already had made plans to redo this shot and set up the consist prototypically ... as much as we can. Our next sortie is planned for November. No other booking until then. Cheers.

  • Also the PRR car, Silver Rapids, never ran in the CZ consist with a black roof. It was purchased back by the PRR in the mid 1950s and the roof was painted black and "Pennsylvania" was put on the side to fit back into PRR's consist. When it ran on the CZ it ALWAYS had a silver roof and said "California Zephyr" on the side.

  • Actually, the Silver Rapids did appear in CZ consists with the black roof, just like other non-CZ cars were seen in later years. You'd have to be modeling the 60's to have it be accurate though. If you do model a late-era CZ, be sure to move the flat-top coach up after the baggage car and before the first dome.

  • Thanks for those fine details.

  • Thanks for solving the black roof mystery for me! Also do you know where the 6/5 sleeper was typically placed after '52? Did it basically take the place of one of the 10/6 cars? Until the 1960's summers, I've hardly seen photos of consists of more than 11 cars,

  • If you're going for a prototypical consist, you should get a second B unit as the WP's power consist was an A-B-B configuration. Also the domes on the CZ were in the front behind the baggage car. ALWAYS. A 1949 consist is as follows: baggage dome coach dome coach dome coach dome buffet 10/6 sleeper 10/6 sleeper diner 16 section sleeper 10/6 sleeper dome observation
  • Hi

You are right, PRR had black roof only after CZ. But us poor french have to show to french people the atmosphere of what was american trains at the golden era.

    Thanks for your apreciation

  • 1. Great, scenic layout--I have the BLT CZ cars with D&RGW locomotives, but no layout. Where's your layout? I'm impressed!

2.How about a new video featuring your new engines and if I may so humbly suggest the cars arranged like they were on the 1949 train? Baggage, 4 domes, sleepers with the diner in the middle of them, with the dome obs. at the end. OR the diner right after the 4th dome (dorm/buffet)as was done in the

60's? Do you have a UP dome train? Lots of great childhood memories.

  • ...

But I promise that on our next exhibition we'll make another run with the consist built the prototypical way. I make note of it.

2/ I'll ask our UP afficionados if by chance he has that UP dome train. I'm sure that one of our club member has it (they've got almost everything manfucatured by Rivarossi/AHM)

  • Thanks for this great comment.

1/ Our layout sits boxed in a cellar, waiting for the occasion of an exhibition to see some wheels running on its top. We're a French club of 5 members all living in different cities. Our group is 15 years old and occupations have scattered us some time far away. We enjoy the occasion given by shows to get together a few times a year.

  • Hi

Glad to have somebody who knows. Train is mine.I have a clip with same train with D&RG PAPBPA

    I'll try to put it.

Whe are french, layout is at Grenoble, we display it2or3times a year.

    Where are you from?

2nd, Of course it is possible to do it next time. And our layout cannot accept more cars on that train.

I have 100 passengers trains 3 UP.Also walthers Super Chief, I love it but it does not run as well as CZ. Thanks for interest and if you want to talk, I'll be very pleased

  • This is really fantastic. Everyone's dream to have such a train in such a lay out. I'm from Holland and love the great name trains from the USA. The cz was a fantastic train. Are these Broadway Limited CZ? Me and my 2 year old son love to see the USA trains on our Marklin and BLI tracks. But I have to say this lay out is really something. Thanks for posting this. It makes us happy.

  • Hello. This is kind of you. I'll let the friend who owns this set know about your comment. I'm, the WP locos my be BLI or Athearn. The cars are Walthers. Check for my other vids on our club layout. All video titles start wth LBTA.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your appreciation! I'm the owner of the train and my friend made these videos.

The cars are definitly Broadway Limited and for me the best. The locos at the time of the video were Proto 1000. Since I bought the Athearn Genesis one which are much more better (and sound!) I have about 100 passengers trains, let us know if you want others and which one.

    And enjoy

  • My favorite train of all time! My Mom took my brother and me on the CZ from Oroville to Sacramento in 1968. I will never forget that trip. Great Video!

  • Thanks! That model is proudly owned by a LBTA club member. I know it took him many years to identify and locate the various elements of this set. And it's a real pleasure to see it, with the WP machine in front. Glad you liked it, and that it brought back nice memories to you.
