  • "when a man loves a woman!!!"

  • guys how is this possible? i just can't do it...I can go really high..but i can't get the same notes as the guy:@ how do you where to start from?

  • hey how can i sing! i can do falsetto,i am also a baritone.. how can i practice if i dont have a place? which place it better to have a practice?

  • holy fucking shit... dude that was amazing

  • Comment removed

  • Holy crap that guy's good!!

  • Comment removed

  • what his the highest note he is hitting there?

  • @maddog8757 3:27 he is hitting a Eb5, thats really high for mix

  • ебаные пидпрпсы

  • "when a ma-an loves a woma-an" he sings really high

  • I think to be a good voice teacher you need to not only have extensive background in your field of music but also know diction, music theory, enunciation, be able to read music, play an instrument, know many different languages, and know the human anatomy! Otherwise you're a vocal coach! And teachers and coaches are two WAAAAY different things in music!

  • OMG. It's like an EXTREMELY strong head voice.

I used to think you had to like, find it, and it would come out and be like, WOW! But it turns out you have to develop it :P

Mine isn't very strong yet. At all :'] <3

  • Bouabouabouabouaboua........Hahahahahahahahaha......!

    Ridiculous !!!

  • i wanna b a singer man!]

  • 2:46 jack black lol

  • singing is easy for me i was born wih a soprano oice so inever had to try.an ow i aout to get signed to a reordlabel look for me LATHAN RINTREE 5 OCTAVE

  • I can't find my mix no matter how hard i try

  • @OfficialNickNakama its easy. sing a note. WITHOUT moving your larynx at all then try to sing higher just by alil WITHOUT moving your larynx. Whether its an airy sound, or whatever thats your mix.

  • This clip, after 2 years has finally shown me how to find the way to produce the mixed voice. It's god damn hard, but now I've finally found it I can learn how to use it :D I'm excited.

Thanks so much for this video (:

  • yei brett...this dude is just awesome!

  • 2:46 sounds totally like Jack Black's singing

  • @ArmandoBarreda

    hahaha it's so true :)

  • doest he (James Kelly) sing in a band? What is the band if so?

I wanna hear his vocal in music! :)

  • doesnt he teach girls too!?

  • Yes, he tought Hayley Williams.

  • guy looks little like Pavarotti

  • i have been having great results with this program. I am a bass who was topping out around an F#4, I am now able to sing Bb4 with no strain, and I've been workin on hitting B's and high C's. Not to mention my vibrato and head voice sound so much better.

  • @slygemini does it take a long time for the results to start showing? cuz I've just recently got this program(like 2 days ago) and am really struggling, like I don't really know whether I should be trying to push my head voice volume/chest voice, it seems when I try an do head voice it just seems like falsetto :(

  • omg. it is my dream to be able to sing like this. wow. right now I can do a very light mix but as soon as I add volume, my larynx and throat tenses up.

  • I hear you man.. I never looked at it like that before.. good post

  • thats wonderful...

  • UGH.

i was warming up one time and i actually got my voice to sound pretty similar to that.

but now i cant remember what i did to do that. =(

  • My bridge seems bigger than it should be. I dont know whether to sing in head voice or chest voice between E4 and Ab4. I think I just end up singing a really weak mix and I cant really sustain any of the notes well in that gap

  • I have had amazing results from doing SLS! I am a low baritone with a lot of vocal weight.I have been practiceing SLS for about 2 months now, and I am amazed. I scream in a rockband, and I have been trying so hard to hit those high notes. Now I am able to hit an A4 in full chest-voice and D6 in head-voice. My mixed-voice ends at D5, but getting better and better :)

I strongly recommend SLS! Brett Manning knows his stuff! :)

    Greetings from Norway!

  • @MrJCBB And how are you doing with your voice now ? Sorry for asking. But Im a baritone as well. Going up to g4 in chest voice and that is just not in any way enough. Let me know if you have gotten any better, smarter or wiser regarding your voice. Id love to hear from you before "wasting time".

    Regards from Denmark

  • @MrJCBB Sounds Awesome! Please upload some songs!

  • that is the type of mix i want

  • i should watch this video everyday to practice

  • when a maaaann loves a womaan!!

  • Hmm... I'm 18 with an OK singing voice (I can sing in tune and I have decent resonance) but terrible control and a pitiful range... Of course, I've never taken lessons before, but I'm seriously considering doing Brett's "Singing Success" course, because I'm a big fan of his.

  • is there any way i could teach this to myself? i think i understand what they're talking about and i've tried it before but never thought it was actually a real way to sing. i always thought my vocal range was just very limited.

  • falsetto is a vocal coordination that features vocal cords that do not adduct, or zip up. there is less cord to support, so it is easier to use, but also more airy since most of the air goes through the "hole" in the middle. if he was using falsetto, he would not be able to get much volume. he is actually using a mixed voice that brett trains people to use. it extends your range by adding head voice to your mix. this is a full voice, because the cords adduct, unlike falsetto tones.

  • i love arguing semantics on the voice (theres a great video on singingsucces channel just for semantisists like you :) ) falsetto is not a voice in males or females; it is a vocal coordination. head voice is a register in which the falsetto coordination exists. brett manning calls the voice Kelly is using "mixed voice" or "blended voice" (thats why the vid is called "high mix").

  • this is a full voice. (cords adducted) I've been through the course and teach it now. while there is such a thing as supported falsetto, this is not what he is using. look for some pictures that show the difference between the cord coordination in falsetto and full head voice. for some good mixed voice check out some of the older chris cornell and myles kennedys higher notes. everyone knows what falsetto sounds like. apologize by new republic is a good example.

  • I know how falsetto sounds , I can sing in it , tough I understand what you are saying , didn't get it at first.

  • Hey, folks. Is this ZIPPING EFFECT just a mental image to smoothing out one's learning curve or does it have true physiological basis in the sense of recent scientific research discoveries and this kind of stuff?

  • It actually happens, there are some pictures shown. They close off at the bottom leaving only some to vibrate. Look up "RockthestageNYC" his videos demonstrate head voice vs falsetto and that demonstratesit using a jacket. Just watch it.

  • Thanks for the hint. I'm gonna look it up right now.

  • I sound good when i sing my low notes, they sound edgy, but when i go up i sing freely without tension, but the sound on those high notes is "bad". Perhaps it's because im 17 years old.

  • What you're describing is having tone differential between your chest and head voices. Brett covers this frequently in his lessons, as would almost any vocal teacher in any genre. Get some professional lessons and practice, practice, practice.

Hope this helps, and good luck! =)

  • Don't worry, it takes years to get it perfect. Trust me, you won't find a GREAT male contemporary singer under the age of 22-23....and if anybody tells me "Chris Brown," or "David Archuleta." they deserve to be shot - that guy (Chris that is. David not so much) is so overrated it's not funny!

  • Yeah I know some of the most technically skilled vocalist the youngest one is 27 and some are dead.

  • Hey Ive got a little baby at home I will take lessons from him on the baba bla bla ba ma!

  • brett manning teaches james kelly? more like james kelly teaches brett manning!

  • i think he hit a eb5 thats impressive wish i could sing that high! i have been working with this program since this summer and i feel like i am getting no were! i was going to get the monthly ship on sso but you cant get all the videos unless your a yearly member and i think its unfair

  • i can sing as high as Brett, and as low, without any effort :P .. my problem is flow ... i have no flow at all (my breathing is good though, i know all the exercises) i just suck at connecting ... or what is called bridging... i'm training ;D (Arceneux is my master :P)

  • Thats awsome, today i tried the james kelly method(bwah bwah bwah eg.), and i hit notes that i didnt think i could hit. I sang the "When a man loves a women" and i hit the notes well. My problem is singing words, so when i did sing "When a man loves a women" i could easily hit "When a man", but as soon as i hit "Loves a women" it gets harder. Do u know any tricks to help that? and arceneux is a good teacher, did u buy his training cd or, do just watch the youtube vid?

  • narrow your vowels as much as you can.. sing win a miiin lirvs a werhmin

  • its the AH vowel in LOVES and OH in WO-MAN that makes it harder, try to keep your vowels narrow. so dont change vocal position from "when a man" just make tiny adjustments. (im a singing teacher who practises the same method). notice he says when a "mehhnn".

  • thats somewhat of my prob 2 i can make it to a d5 but 3 notes in between its killer

  • If ur a guy, it's probably because ur hitting the Gates of the cruel castle of falsetto .. lol... it's normal .. u can train urself to conciously skip the "gap". but it's hard. i know :P. i'm still training on that :P - (it's hard when i'm not face to face with a real coach :S)

  • how do i make my "high mix" more chesty instead of just simply "bitey" haha... i am now an advocate of Crying on Pitch.

    The Crying Showman. LOL

anyway; i still can't get to making my high mix or "heady mix" sound chesty... any help? :)

  • I'm the same... please help!

  • same here

  • Have you guys tried to practice the high notes in nasal mode?Try to sing exhaling the high notes from the nose...normally giving support with the diafram

Sorry for my english but i'm from italy

  • wow, i'm reading the comments and am impressed by how into the convo everyone is! i need some serious training to get my voice in shape.

  • Brett manning is the real deal...trust me!!!!

  • I'm sorry you think you can disagree with me, but that still isn't true.

This also has nothing to do with me "not getting it" The problem is, I've had years of training with people far more educated in this field. Whatever you think your range is is simply a falsified resonance.

You make a good point about it requiring less effort, but that should be less effort in the mouth and throat which should be free anyway, Effort should come from your external intercostal muscles and your abdomens.

  • Explain the "falsified resonance" you are talking about.

  • falsified resonance is simply referring to the placement of the sound waves produced.

Consider your mouth a concert hall in itself. Someone singing within a well placed resonance would feel their mouth as though it is a very condensed cathedral with a lifted soft palette. The singer then directing the sound (air) to the space between the back of the teeth and the soft palette. Versus a "false"resonance where the sound would be placed between the tongue and the roof of the mouth.

  • JoshDuJour... I can tell you that I have been using speech-level now for the past 15 years & I can tell you that doing four hour gigs hitting notes that are as high if not higher than what both Brett & James are in this particular tutorial, I am not in any fear of losing my voice any time soon. its about correct technique. Im using it & the proof is in the pudding.

    Cheers

  • have you thought that you simply have a higher timbre and naturally are able to "speech-level" sing higher?

    that would make sense.

this works for these people, and few others. but speaking in general, it's not very beneficial.

  • Well No I have to disagree with you there.. becoz quite simply I never used to have the range I have now & my strength thru my mix area & extended upper range is more consistant & more importantly requires less effort & therefore doesnt damage my chords... basically its not something that is easy for everyone to master but it is a technique that anyone can learn with the right vocal coach...If you dont get it mate go & have a lesson with a qualified speech level instructor It Works..Believe Me.

  • This is James Kelly.....I've been singing with this method for over 14 years....no troubles yet. Actually gotten easier over the years. Compression and tension are two different things.

  • could u help me sing better,

  • This method can help anyone that will really apply it. There are basic truths to the technique that you can branch from and find the things about it that work best for you. It's different for everyone just as every voice is unique in its sound signature.

  • Hey James.

That's really great..could you please send me details as to how I could get lessons face-to-face off Brett Manning??

    Thanks..Rav

  • you have to live in tennessee to get private lessons from him...

  • i actually thought james was a dramatic tenor instead of a lyric...

i kinda had the notion that "lyric" can only get the high pitches by sounding heady or faking connections.

what are the qualifications for differentiating lyric and dramatic? :D

been watching this video for a few months now.

  • "heady" tenors (usually british, such as John Aler) are called Leggiero tenors.

Lyric Tenors, Like Pavarotti, have a light-er sound, but a more full timbre than leggiero tenors.

dramatic tenors, such as Franco Corelli, are going to have the same range (usually) of lyric tenors, but they will SOUND thicker and more full. Less "airy"

Dramatic tenors are usually Heroic in operas and Lyrics are usually non-American Oratorio tenors or particularly used in French Comic Opera.

  • in the end, all tenors are lucky bastards range-wise...

  • haha, yep, you are right sir... this coming from a baritone, they are lucky bastards

  • however I've never heard a more epic G4 than the sound coming from a true baritone voice. WOW way better than tenor high C IMHO

  • @SingingSuccess is he a tenor or baritone? thankyou!

  • Wow, I've got impressed with James' approach to the high pitches here, however none of them explained how to reach such a power and volume. I myself can reach such notes without breaking in falsetto, but I'm still trying to understand how can I can get them as powerful as James does here, without employing more air (which leaves my cords burning), tightening my larynx outer muscles or stretching my cords even farther more. Hints?

  • Exactly! I can hit them as well, but with no where near the power and intensity. If I didn't know it, I'd think that was his full voice.

  • Have you ever heard of the Complete Vocal Technique by madam Cathrine Sadolin from Denmark? Her method kind of encompasses SLS, but it seems far more comprehensive, since it allows metallic sounds (such as Belting). I posted this video to the CVT forum last week, and someone said that James is singing in a mode named compressed Neutral, which is non-metallic and the weakest mode in terms of volume. I really thought this guy was either on Curbing or Belting here.

  • im impressed with this technique.Classical training is not the end all be all when it comes to training the voice.Classical training is very specific and does not give you a commercial sound.I love classical, but it has its place.Bretts style seems to be effective.

  • WOW!! awesome

  • You should listen again to the great tenors (even if opera isn't your style), such as e.g. the incomparable Giacomo Lauri-Volpi. They can teach you what a voice can be capable of. - you can find it here on youtube.

  • I´m a fan of flamenco singing, second only to modern deathmetal in its destructive effect on the voice. But I´ve heard others try to sing flamenco songs with their own technique and it is awful. What is important is that the artist be able to affect you. GaetanoDonizetti, Seth Riggs mostly trained classical singers and was Brett Mannings teacher-mixed voice method can develop appropriate classical voices. Cinqoctaves, don´t call anyone stupid because you explain poorly.

    Cheers

  • Seth Riggs is himself a classically-trained singer and teacher and must have enjoyed excellent training. I do respect him, although the larger part of his acclaim as a teacher is based on his success with training pop singers. Having all the pieces of the vocal pie oneself and having a student with his own agenda taking away only those pieces he likes best, are two different things.

Seth Riggs might teach a complete technique, I doubt B. Manning does.

  • I was not talking to you anyway. You all said "I doubt BManning teach a complete technique"

May I ask you what is a complete technique? What the problem with Brett? At least do you have his full programm to say he is not able to teach what human voice is capable of?(Here I was speaking to Gaetano.

  • They make the most squeezed, strangled, ugly, painful sounds while waffling on about "freedom" in the voice...and they call it "technique". I'd find it funny if it wasn't so painful on the ears and nerves.

What is it with this ridiculous quest for reaching stupendously high notes with male voices anyway ?

  • I hope you're kidding here. That was absolutly not strangled or squeezy at all. They were just working on that, that doesn't mean they use it often on stage.

It is GREAT technique,I have the hole programm and they learn you how to hit high note without straining.

But anyway you seems very stupid so I don't know if my explanation lead to something.

  • Alright, you win, let's not get into silly little arguments.

To my eyes and ears the guy on the left is straining terribly, but then I come from classical training and value pure tone quality and overall freedom over stratospheric high notes.

For a rock singer whose main concern might be with REACHING and holding certain high-lying pitches, with little concern for pure tone- and vowel quality this technique might be ok and get them what they want. For a classical singer it wouldn't.

  • Yeah I know that Classical world and "Pop" world is not the same thing at all.But here the guy wasn't struggling at all whe doing that High C(High D was a bit more forced). To my ear the guy is able to reach that stratospheric high note without any strain cause he is USING his MIXED voice.I know that even in Opera singing male uses that same blend of head and chest to hit very high notes. And to me ALL male opera singers sound "hooty" they changed their tone, cause they don't speak with that voice.

  • 'kin 'ell

  • Is he rolling his tounge in that exercise or are his lips vibrating while blowing out air?o.O

  • GAHH I can't wait to get singing success.

Music is my life, and I LOVE to sing! I know though, that on those high notes, I always belt em out, and I feel like I'm screaming em, and I know that's TERRIBLE for my vocal chords n everything. I LOVE Paramore, and when I heard he was her voice coach I was like, PSH! I'M SOLD! I've seen the free vid so I'm excited to get the whole thing. :)

    THANKS FOR YOUR AWESOMENESS BRETT!

  • Can someone please explain what is meant by the 'mix' here? I know the brrrr works by giving some back pressure beneath the folds and reducing the propensity to blow air, thus giving better fold closure. Are we saying here that the key technique is to keep the larynx mid??? I don't get it!!!

  • what exercises can you do for smooth transitions between chest, mix and head at full volume and power? as soon as I try hitting say a D#5 in a mixed voice it just cracks, but I can hit a D5 with no strain at all. what's up with that? and the lower mixed voice cracks all the time around A#4. any tips?

  • yes, find a good teacher !

  • Stallone and Stone

  • i think it would be easyier to have lessons personaly with him !

  • I have a 9-10 octave range.

-Take a deep breath in with your mouth raising your diaphram

-You start by dropping your atom's apple to the bottom of your neck and doing low lion growls

-Circular, circular, circular.... - atom's apple, to chin, to mouth, to nose, to forehead, to top of head, to back of head, to bottom-back of head, to atom's apple, to chin, to mouth, to nose, to forehead, etc... continues circles, start low, low-high (clockwise), high-low (counter-clockwise)

    I'm a tenor (male)

  • I can´t do that =( Is there an example of this for womans?

  • is the BA BA BA exercise falsetto or head voice?

  • omg this really works and I've been singing for 10 yrs now. Can finally do "The Everlasting" from Manic Street Preachers!!! It takes a lot of concentration but it works so thank you very much.

  • WHEN a MA-AN LOVES a WO-MAN!!!!!!!

  • How can I 'mix' chest and head voice on a high note if my chest voice can't stretch that high to be mixed with?

  • Even with straining?

  • well that's the point of a mixed voice. it extends your chest-sounding range. think of it as adding head voice relieves unnecessary muscle tension so you can go higher.

  • Is it possible for me (a male) to reach an E5 with my full voice?

...because that's my goal. I can only reach Bb5.

  • yep but do you mean Bb4 Because a Bb5 is higher then that because Bb5 is up there with high c! Yeah you can i made it up to an E5 But it doesnt sound good!lol

i need to work on it though!

  • Very cool...nice...

  • Just the passed few months (6) maybe I've been trying to connect my head voice (which if i begins singing high is fine) to my check voice...( which i've had previously with no problems)but it seems sometimes i loose my head voice power i guess sometimes when I'm changing between the two....my vocal teacher says it's cause my body is growing or something but that's not really helping a whole lot....are there any exercises for this?

    ~Lindsay~

  • I feel that this is missing a very important factor, 'support'. Without a solid support all this work, although helpful, is quite futile. However, I am interested to hear his classical students. In pop music, you can get a way with 'ugly' sounds. However, in classical voice, bel canto more specifically, the focus is on beauty, mistakes can't be covered up as easily. I would like to hear a 'Una Furtiva Lacrima' or 'Le crois je entendere' from his studio.

  • Hey all, it's Kelly from the above video. Just wanted to say thanks for all the amazing comments. I'm working on a new update and wondering if there is anything specific that you all would like me to address. Thanks kg

  • The only thing that makes me mad is at like 3:00 or so the video skips and so I don't hear how he added the strong mix to it. It sounds like a twangy head voice until the video skips and then it "sounds" like he is singing in chest voice, meaning he has an amazing mix. What happened in between that made his tone sound less like head and more like chest? I can do exactly what he does comfortably and freely until that break in the video where it sounds all chesty and strong.

  • The video doesn't skip with my computer, but I still find it quite hard to tell what happens.

I'm not sure exactly where the video skips for you, but here's the transcript:

2:57 And then buee buee buee buee buee, buah buah buah buah buah, until I'm into this thing. But it's all very you know incremental again 3:07

Basically there isn't an explanation, he just does it ;-)

Hope your voice is improving, take care,

    Emi

  • Kelly, second to hearing Phelps pop and stick a high D - your voice is the best developed pop voice I've ever heard. Way to go! Lots training, but wow - tons of power, and so little stress for this massive range.

  • Hey thank you very much for putting up these videos and then responding to the comments also that is very nice. Umm i recently got my head voices power back that i had thought i had lost forever, but i still cant figure out mixed voice and how to use it. I can even use whistle voice but i dont know why i have a very hard time with mixed voice. Any tips for how i can discover it???

  • If you have a strong head voice. Then try medium volume mums with a cry. Don't be loud or use too much air at first to see if you can get some place other than head voice. Keep watching more vids to give you ideas of course.

  • These are cool videos !

    ~Lindsay~

  • Sry meant soprano C, not that it isn't the same but. :P

  • Shees.. It's so cool that I've found this, now I'll do this everyday! High C will be mine!

    Muahahhahahaha... Muhaha.. Hah.. Ha.

;D //P.S So cool that you really respond back to people.

  • amazing, I have been having singing lessons for a year and a half, i only have two and a bit octaves, i never seem to get the message to my vocal cords to relax so all my higher notes are strangled also keeeping a bright sound is hard. excellent voices though.

  • Your vocal cords don't need to relax, the rest of your body does. You need the cords to be completely closed and withstanding the increase of pressure that this much power demands. Thinking that you need to relax the cords will cause you to break as you ascend.

  • Im glad that there is someone who helps the singers:-)

  • Which one are you havin trouble with the first one(C#5) or the second one (D#5)? The only weird thing i feel when I do this is NOTHING. Exactly, i feel absolutely nothing, no strain, and i dont feel like I PUSH the voice up there like i use to on a B4. And then after I do this I sing everything below that super clean. There's one more thing, when i did it the first time after doing all the warm up, when i tryed it again after a while i couldn't do it. Do I have do the warm up every time?

  • I dn't know whether u'll have 2 do d warm ups everytime, but I usually need to exercise my voice once in a while 2 be able to sing to my fullest.

I can sing the 2nd one, but as I keep trying 2put in the power and move from my head voice, I feel my vocal/respiratory system expanding tremendously even in my head. But since it's meant 2 b low larynx, not too surprised. I feel air passing thru my ears also if I try to put in more power, but I strain a little. Guess I just need more exercise/practice

  • Wow, you know I've been watching Brett on youtube for a couple months now,but 2 days ago i came across this.WOW!I don't know what happened but, the highest note I could hit in chest before was a super strained, raspy C5. After watching this video TWICE and doing what Kelly was doing, I was able to hit the notes in the video. I'm still a little doubtfull on the second "when a man..." (i think was D#5)cuz when i do it i use a little to much head. But wow, these people are not joking. This works.

  • Awesome! thanks for sharing. There's more to come here on the tube but you can also check out our singing success online website for a huge archive of video lessons. Best of luck keeping those high notes fresh as can be!

    Jesse

  • WOW! That's so cool. I've been trying, and I'm also getting it, but just a little.

I feel something in my ears (it kinda opens)when I try to go high in full voice. Do you feel that too, or am I just doing it wrong?

  • i've tried "nay nay nay" and "mum mum mum" and lip rolls....but my throat still hurts when i sing and it feels swollen :( brett - HELP!!!!!

  • My question is how to produce such powerfull MIX!? I don't have any SLS teacher and I'm working at home but now after I've discovered mix in my voice I need to learn how to add much more chest into it to be LOUD as Kelly!:)This is great!

  • You have to remember that even singing correctly, you will develop into your own quality/style. Some voices, fully developed with a mix will sound more lyric, some like Kelly have a more dramatic 'physical' dimension that is physically is biology. Even Brett can't come close to this range of power no matter what he would try.

  • Kelly is a lyric tenor, just as brett and certainly NOT dramatic. Conversely when brett opens up on his Bb with the singer's formant it is far bigger than Kelly as his voice has matured more. but singing big has little to do with singing well so we prefer not to be known as the vocal studio with the "big voices" :)

  • Michael Card is a lyric tenor. Even Luciano Pavarotti with overtones at 3,200 Hz, can overpower an entire orchestra. Lyric to Dramatic is a sliding scale. For certain, Kelly leans far more toward the dramatic side than Brett. His vocal sound can more depth.

  • You need to hear Brett on the SSO video "Finding Vocal Formant" before you prematurely limit brett's depth.

  • i don't get this, the guy could already sing a B above middle C, now he just sings it more smoothly, he isn't singing any higher. how is that gonna help someone like me who can't hit those notes at all?

  • This is a completley different approach to sing those high notes. Maybe he could do this before but after 2h of singing he was probably really fatige...

You can sing that B above middle C or you can scream for it - your choice...:)

  • yeah but i can't sing the b or the c at all, screaming or not. so even if i used this program, and it allowed me to hit the top of my range (an E above middle C) more easily, my highest note would still suck.

  • For how long have you been practice then? This is not a 3 days course for sure. Give yourself some time and do not force anything otherwise you will not succeed. You probably tighten up your muscles when going higher. This is happening when you're using to much force and pushing to rich those high notes. Belive me it is possible to sing high by the easier way but you need to discover that so practice with SS daily at low volumes to blend your registers and build the mix. That is all about.

  • He could maybe hit a Bb by straining now he's singing Eb and G above high C with ease and it sounds like chest. You can learn to sing high notes even if your high note is an E4 like Jesse Nemitz.

  • I bought your Singing Success Systematic Vocal Training Program. When I attempt to sing mix voice with the vows such as "oo" to "u", "ee" to "ih", I still feel like I sound in the head voice. Hmmm can you tell me what's the problem??

  • correct compression for mix has 1.) squeeze 2.) airflow 3.) release. Try different variations of these three things to achieve more chest compression instead of "head voice"

  • Thanks brett, I will work hard on it.

  • narrow vowels need compression too. Your wide vowels might be too chest dominated also.

  • is it normal when we sing mixed voice, we will sound slur and also a little airy.

  • he could strain a Bb4 but no B4, C5 C#5, D5, D#5, E5, F5, F#5, G5. He got all those in full mix by training.

  • Is it possible to increase your vocal range by over an octave? With the program?

  • yeah I actually did that very thing. I couldn't sing above F4 but now can sing (in full voice up to A5) -Jesse Nemitz

  • hey, is it possible to have a strong chest voice and mix voice with power and volume just like christina aguilera and amy lee

  • GREAT video! But if you'll be so kind to answer, is it possible to have a mix of chest and falsetto like chest and head? Because often when entering my mix it sounds like my chest is the undertone and my overtone (which should be head) is falsetto...too sharp and raspy and resonating. OR do I just need to work on the balance? Thanks ^.^

  • you mean like a breathy mix? that's possible.

  • question...Between 3:15 and 3:34, is that in his chest voice?

  • no its what a REAL TRUE MIX sounds like. People have historically misunderstood mix to think it can't be powerful enough. This video clearly shows that you can get MORE than enough power out of your mix voice instead of pulling up chest.

  • Hey, I'm afraid I don't understand the difference in tone between pulling up chest and mix voice. If the tone demonstrated here in this vid is mix, then I can do it. Because I am able to sing and replicate his tone and volume on all of the high notes he sang. My problem is that I can't sustain these note more than 2 or 3 times without fatiguing and tensing up. Can you briefly help me out on how eliminate the fatigue?

  • Put your fingers on your throat. If the larynx is going up that's probably why. The throat muscles have to be relaxed.

  • You are not releasing into the second set of chords that create the mix of head and chest.. your are FORCING tone and pulling chest. Try singing it VERY quietly.. you will see it WILL fall apart. You MUST have "half voice" or pure speech level tone in order to build your voice the correct way

  • You make it sound so easy. I wish I could figure out this coordination. As of right now I can only vocalize in Chest and Head. I've never experienced any coordination that's "in between", nor do I believe such a coordination exists. I can replicate Kelly's tone in my chest, but after two or three attempts I tense up and tire out. And I can easily sing them in head voice, but the tonal quality is obviously inaccurate because I produce too much head overtone. Any advice?

  • There is a middle where sound resonantes in head mouth (mix) Kelly proves it right here. It's not a more full head voice. It's a properly mixed chest / head balance.
