The brothers were wearing the same clothing (they were painters) so it was a terrible terrible mistake. I saw a programme about it the otherday and I feel extrememly deeply for that mistake.
But I agree with all the pro- SAS comments - the IRA want to be "soliders" and "warriors" but when they get their arse kicked by real soldier they complain....well what the hell were they going to do then?? Hardly brave to kill women and children on their holiday.

Don't be taken in too much by the myths about SAS ; MI5 ; MI6 etc. We've just seen this week an SAS unit of 6 plus 2 MI6 officers captured and sent back by a group of ill equipped Libyan rebels. There were quite a few SAS officers captured and killed in Northern Ireland (i.e.Robert Nairac ). ..and of course for at least 40 years both MI5 and MI6 were run by spies one of whom (Sir Anthony Blunt) was knighted whilst still spying for Russia.

I've just finished reading the govt. report on the Falklands and the only SBS killed in that skirmish were 2 killed by the SAS (mistaken for enemy) Although there always seems to have been a serious dislike/rivalry between the two and just a hint that maybe it wasn't a mistake!
