@Onurr91 you are totally right. I do this trick everytime I forget thw bottle in the freezer for a longer time than intended. The liquid gets a colloidal structure and when you open the bottle at that point and wait for2-3 seconds, it becomes totally frozen. Taking a sip before you close and turn upside down helps you to balance the pressure within the bottle but it's not necessary. When you open the bottle it will start freezing from the surface, until it reaches to a balance with the atmosphe
Glassy water can be heated up to approximately 150 K (−123 °C/−189.4 °F).[3] In the range of temperatures between 231 K (−42 °C/−43.6 °F) and 150 K (−123 °C/−189.4 °F) experiments find only crystal ice.
Pure water normally freezes at 273.15 K (0 °C or 32 °F) but it can also be "supercooled" at standard pressure down to its crystal homogeneous nucleation at almost 224.8 K (−48.3 °C/−55 °F).[2] [3] If, however, it is cooled at a rate on the order of 106 K/s, the crystal nucleation can be avoided and water becomes a glass. Its glass transition temperature is much colder and harder to determine, but studies estimate it at about 165 K (−108 °C/−162.4 °F).[4].
A liquid below its standard freezing point will crystallize in the presence of a seed crystal or nucleus around which a crystal structure can form. However, lacking any such nucleus, the liquid phase can be maintained all the way down to the temperature at which crystal homogeneous nucleation occurs. The homogeneous nucleation can occur above the glass transition where the system is an amorphous (non-crystalline) solid.
I love how everyones like " I wish they had that in my country!" when all you really have to do is leave it in the freezer for 2-3 hours, then take the same steps showed in this video.
this phenomenon has a very simple explanation. google for a pt diagram of h2o. there you can see, that the freeze point of h2o is at 0° with a pressure of 1,013 bar (ambient pressure), but when you increase the pressure, the freezing point of water gets below 0° (anomaly of water). so the coca cola company fills the coke with high pressure and cools it below 0° in their vending machine and as soon as you open the coke it sets up to 1,013 bar and freezes! thumbs up so everyone gets it!
@Onurr91 I think you mean as soon as you open the bottle the pressure DECREASES to match ambient pressure and therefore the water freezes due to the boiling point of water now being 0°C and not, say, -4°C.
@nickparry01 yeah I mean that, but I guess you mixed freezing point with boiling point, because boiling point of water in ambient pressure is at 100°C, but actually youre right, thats what i meant, sorry for my bad english :D
@Onurr91 Actually genius if I may, the coke co. doesn't fill it up with air to get high pressure air. Well it does but only do get the fizz effect they fill it up with co2. Some of this co2 rises because it wants to escape and surprise, high air pressure. I can do this same *trick* with my house refrigerator. Okay so you were right I'm just a perfectionist. It was discovered by accident, then again what isn't :]. Damn I have to get a life! :P
Im actully drinking one right now.. i have it in my local fish and chips shop.. They are pretty wicked.. They are slowly beig introduced to australia now! its pretty cool.
What the hell!? Why hasn't America cashed in on this friggin gold mine? I mean, I guess because BK and 7/11 have coke slushies, but that machine would be much more convenient.
That machine probably stores the bottles at a temp right before freezing. When the contents hit warmer air you will get that effect. I've been doing that for my kids for years because they like slushies!
its all physics. take your beverage and cool it down to a temperature around 20F or -7C. When opened it will freeze instantly. The principle of freezing point depression. Pure water at 1 atm will freeze at 0C or 32F. When you open a soda bottle it does the opposite. The freezing point goes from -10C to around 0C when the CO2 leaves the solution. Since the soda is at -7C it freezes instantly when the CO2 leaves the solution.
I've seen these a lot but being winter I'd be damned to cough of the 11 bucks for the damn thing. Maybe when the summer comes full bore I might get that desperate.
@MichaelJackson199 what.... i even send coca cola company a email today to ask why they dont sell it anymore xD they said that it doesnt sell good -_-
