That is crazy. Some stupid guy acting as a police officer stopped and asked what I was doing yesterday when I had my tripod set up and was waiting for a train - and was "ok...." when I told him that I was waiting for a train but he still acted weird. He drove by a few times after and gave my friend and I a dirty look. Sucks that our hobby attracts so much negative attention.
They "took my information" when they caught up with me over ath the Mahar highway xing...so nothing really in the end i suppose i was in an odd spot in ths vid but still. Even the slightly arrogant cop admitted if it werent for 911 he wouldnt have given a second thought to what i was doing.
I got kicked out of the Mansfield MBTA station for filming but not before getting a "terrorists film trains before they bomb them" speech. Seriously, since when do terrorists go around in public with cameras and act enthusiastic about trains? In fact, railfans know when something legitimately suspicious is going on because they know whats normal and whats not on the railroads they visit. They police need to trust us. We're supposed to be on the same side.
And when i ride the t i pay my fare adn i get up and go to work everyday and lose plenty of money to state taxes which also fund the t with that being said they shouldnt worry about me taking pics/video of equipment thats just as much mine as it is theirs.
Boy, the MBTA sure loves using Safetran crossing bells don't they? (Most MBTA railroad crossings I've seen use them, a few others use WCH bells instead.)
Great video man, thanks for posting this. Yeah, railfanning isn't the most favored hobby by the general public, lol, people are just paranoid. NEVER, EVER GO RAILFANNING ON 9/11, lol, jk, fight the power. RIP 9/11 victims though.
Those horn bans make me sooo mad. The trains were there before the people in most cases, so people need to adapt to it. I do agree that sometimes engineer's over do the horn a little, but most of the time it is very necessary.
The stripes are suppost to go toward the crossing signal. I guess it has been proven that when the stripes are going away from the crossing signal like these are, people are more tempted to go around the gates. Sounds kind of fishy, but it's the truth ;)
I read the FRA's report on the FEC whistle ban. The nightime accident rate increased 300% when whistle bans were imposed. On non-ban crossings the accident rate only increased 23%. CSX crossings which were not affected by the ban saw a similar result.
Well that should change around now, origionally, you needed to have a mbta photo permit if you were going to film stuff on mbta property, but now they're now longer required.
Well heres the thing formineck, just make sure that you have some kind of I.D. on you if you plan to do this activity. They wont press charges on you or anything if your like this guy here, if you were tresspassing on property, then yes it would be a different story.
People just can't tell the difference between kids raising hell at an MBTA Train Station (Like the one I live next too) and a guys stopping to film a train going over a crossing! You're right, they do overreact. Any way, nice video. Keep 'em coming.

Wouldnt be at all suprised if it were true, I heard Florida tried a locomtive horn ban and at grade crossing accidents went up 56%.

Soyka, Its worse now. Photo Permits could bail you out if someone called on you. Now we have what besides a clean record?
