The looped chain bit...once the chain is assembled you can also flatten it out front and back with a mallet or by running it through rolling mill to make a Bali-style chain. Antique it with liver of sulfur to complete the look. Just a thought.

Another name for roman chains was Money chain because the links could be removed and traded as money.
