  • Exactly....I may be old...but I saw all the good bands lol.

  • i had just graduated from high school in '72. mr. joe was on an epic & creative roll. super good times - THAT UNREPEATED ERA OF GREAT INVENTIVENESS OF ROCK, BLUES, AND PROGRESSIVE MUSIC!!!! feel free to grouse or reminisce.

  • 2pac california love

  • California Lohove

  • I had no idea Joe Cocker was a human!

  • This is dripping with soul. I'd like to have played cowbell on it but impossible as I was 2 years old at the time and I would have messed up this perfect recording!

  • 1 people man to man

  • This is great. What a band. Whos drumming ?

  • @doubts Jim Keltner - one of my favorites. He has a feel that cannot be taught. It could possibly be Alan White (Yes fame) as he was also on this album. Alan has his own reputation of being in the pocket. He played some nice backbeats with John Lennon. Chris Stainton (co-writer of this song) played the keys.

  • i think you are thinking of Andy White, who played on some of Lennon's Stuff.

  • @karmik2 That would be Alan White, who eventually replaced Bill Bruford in Yes.

  • 2pac sold 75 million albums worldwide may have sampled it but its a hip hop classic this song is NOT

  • @96sexipapi Your dead wrong on that one!Look 2pac is a great artis,so is joe cocker there are no "BETTER" between the 2.Mr.Cocker influence Dr.Dre in the same way the old blues guys influence him thats the beauty of the sample it keep's the tradition going.

  • @96sexipapi shut up bitch without this great song maybe 2pac didnt have make california love didnt exist

    so think

  • @rosiefucktheworld, How old are you? THIS legend rocked the ccrowd of 500,000 STONERS @ WOODSTOCK JOES HAD MILLION SELLERS IN THE 60S,70S,80S,90,AND NOW IN 2010!!! CAN YOUR BOY EQUAL THAT? HES STILL TOURING AND SELLING OUT STADIUMS @67 YEARS OLD!!!! 2PAC ,CANT MATCH THAT BECAUSE HES A FUCKING CORPSE! KILLED BY HIS OWN PEOPLE!! =YEAH MURDERING GANGSTERS THAT YOUR IDOLS!!

  • @stalkingwolf1954 You don't have to take cheap shot's to prove your point i happen to love both.I come from pac era,but i love classic shit like!

  • @ rosasswtf? You are a complete RETARD !! JOE COCKER performed his 1st album w/ jimmy page, steve winwood,2nd w/ leon russell, randy newman billy preston etc. You think that that street thug can compare to this LEGEND!! YOU must have been BRAIN DAMAGED as a puppy! How old are you my nig?

  • California, knows how to party...

  • woman to woman brown as brown can be...don't let it get on me.

  • @sa97469, Cocker has written many songs [like this one] its just that his versions often sound better than the originals, theBEATLES actually gave songs toJOE to record, come on the greatest band in history loved JOES covers of their songs!! Numerous rap and soul artists have used Cocker/Stainton songs!

  • no one said nothing about inner cicle -da bomb, that was released before 'california love'.anyway, both songs are great.

  • Sampling/borrowing is nothing new in music people. Led Zeppelin is a perfect example. It's not ripping off and if it is, it has been going on since the invention of popular music. The best site for this whosampledcom

ALL GENRES!!! Quit picking on hip hop only.

  • @diomed1 ....you're right about that......

  • Sencillamente espectacular. Nadie nunca mas lo hizo como èl. .....

  • @john74553 ...Joe is the best, nadie nunca mas lo hizo como el...

  • @sa97420 yeah, cuz ALL the information on wikipedia is 100% reliable :P

  • @sa97420 I HATE when numb nuts like yourself go to wiki for all your info. The ironic thing here is that if you wiki'd this very song, you'd see he co-wrote this song.

  • I always used to hear this in the Venturas Casino

  • This is great! Every song JC sings is like the first time I heard it and better than ever. Wow!

  • gta san andreas broct me hear

  • Ultramagnetic MC's ripped it off years before Tupac and Dre... you betta do some homework!

  • @babidaboopy Mate, when somebody hears the name Joe Cocker they r like "who the fuck is that", but when they hear 2Pac,it rings a bell right? So I'm not really sure that Joe Cocker won.

  • GTA SAN ANDREAS BITCHES!!!!!!!!!

  • Classic stuff right here

  • Oh really? Dre made this beat? No it was sampled in hip hop songs dating back to the mid-80's: Ultramagnetic MC's, 1987. EPMD, 1989. Ultramagnetic MC's,1992...

    Dr. Dre... 1995.

  • tupac - dead

    joe cocker- still alive

    joe cocker wins

  • 2Pac California

  • ‎#lovemovement WOMAN 2 WOMAN, Lover 2 Lover!

  • 2Pac rules!!

  • Comment removed

  • This guy is freakin' street :D

  • i had no idea joe cocker was white

  • @lemmybethyname ihad no idea joe cocker was black

  • @niklonas He's not...

  • California knows how to party

  • Some of u need to read a few books and evolve

  • You know its amazzzzzf zing to me that some of these folks feel the way they do over a song. If u listen from the standpoint of his whole body of work or what time frame this album feel in or just take the song alone, it dosen't matter, its a beautiful cut. Lyrics too.

  • san andreas...

  • Notice 2pac didnt take this song to sample first. It was Roger Troutman.

  • KNICK KNACK PATTY WACK!! EPMD DID THE BEST JOB WITH THIS BEAT!

  • song blows

  • @andrewLULZZ So do you and yo momma bitch

  • @badeldorado sorry i made of fun of this faggy song vriggggg

  • @andrewLULZZ that makes Dre and Pac the biggest faggotz out there!?

  • @pitchshiftergs no there versions r raw this is just gay as fuck

  • @andrewLULZZ I didn't say this was not gay, or that their versions weren't raw, I am not the one to judge... but if those motherfuckers (R.I.P Pac) decided to make a kickass song out of this, it is only because they liked it, which makes them gay fucks... associative property of some degree and logic :)

  • @pitchshiftergs I believe they knew they could make a good rap using the beat. The beat is good, but the guy sounds like a fag using that annoying high pitch voice.

  • @andrewLULZZ I quit

  • @pitchshiftergs me 2

  • @andrewLULZZ ..you muppet..

  • @pitchshiftergs ..you prick.

  • @bobeagle007 LoL :D

  • @andrewLULZZ

this aint gay...theres so much soul and funk in this

  • This cut is too often OVERLOOKED. Steamin' er aaaah.

  • This song is, ( originally ) from his 1972 album ~ Joe Cocker. 'High Time We Went" is also on this album along with a cover of the Allman Brothers "Midnight Rider"

    Thanks JuniorVega23.

  • Ultramagnetic MC's - Funky

  • God this song just feels so "first take". Brilliant.

  • GTA sa music . Classic song . I love it .

  • Women to womeN!!

  • IIIIIIIIIIIIIII LLLLLLOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEE TTTTTTHHHHHIIIIISSSSS SSSSSOOOOONNNNNGGG..........TOUCHES MY SOUL. MAKES ME WANNA CRY....YEA I SAID SO WHAT THIS IS REAL

  • No one talks about Cocker.. Everybody know Tupac and San Andreas.. Ok I like them too, but when I search for a song, I search for the SONG!

  • No habia oido esta desde 1972!

  • love this song

  • There is nothing wrong with sampling when done legally- Joe Cocker was glad to give permission- and honestly- I like Tupac/Dre even more now because I see he recognizes good tunes. :) Cocker, Tupac, Dre- all fantastic artists, but closeminded people are unable to grant appreciation for music that is outside of their tastes. A true judge of art can expand past their own biases.

  • ultramagnetic where da 1st 2 sample this song.. check out FUNKY by ultramagnetic mc's

  • GTA San Andreas

  • Anyone, who really knows their music history or that came up in the 60"s & 70's era knows music tracks have been sampled and repeated time and time again. That the average Hip-Hop track verus a Rap track is nothing new to us that know music. It's like Diamond - D taking a 5 second beat and turning into an entire track.

  • I bought a band...Sam was on trombone, blowin' hard! Back to back notes!

  • so..no one talks about Joe Cocker on Joe Cocker videos...just Tupac...huh..

  • did Tupac use the background music for his song or did he have it covered by some band it with similar amp and instrument settings?

  • @ballbreaker311 Nah he used the background music for it, or at least Dr. Dre did.

  • @Wubnig look up california 2 pac and you'll notice that 2pac's has the SAME exact riff

  • Dr. Dre sampled this beat on California Love.

  • @airchristian23 you think?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @airchristian23 he was late. Ultramagnetics used this in '88, and it sounded funkier

  • @djmmcee In total agreement brother

  • @airchristian23 no shit sherlock

  • @AnonHateMachine you're kidding, right? if you're serious that kills me. this was recorded in 1972! 2pac probably wasn't even alive.

  • Comment removed

  • @AnonHateMachine if anything, 2pac ripped it off Joe Cocker!

  • When you get down to it, all rap is a ripoff. Back in '72, you didnt have "artists" sampling the work of real artists

  • @SpocksBrain425 its called sampling

  • @firewolfstone yeah, and sampling proves the lack of originality and creativity of rap compared to the songs made by the artists that are sampled

  • @SpocksBrain425 Meanwhile, Joe Cocker is probably best known for his cover of a Beatles song. Go figure

  • @SpocksBrain425 in what sense? dre produced the track, the chorus of 'california love' is from ronnie hudson's 'west coast poplock', no doubt also contrived by dre and not sung by 2pac.

  • @SpocksBrain425 well lets see 2pacs made in 1995, this made in 1972 captain obvious saves the day again!

  • @SpocksBrain425 ..no one got ripped off cause Joe got paid..spocks brain?thats a joke.

  • @bobeagle007 dude chill, we never needed a third dumbass to show his skills here, we were just having fun commenting :)

  • @pitchshiftergs ..Piss off mug..

  • @bobeagle007 :D lol dude

  • @pitchshiftergs ..Moron..

  • @SpocksBrain425 no dr dre made the beat so......

  • @LUKEWHITTYboii dr dre didn't make anything. he and 2pac sampled this beat, as have many other hip hop artists. look at the date this was released. 23 years before California Love.

  • @LJBanc i think it was dre who sampled it.... but i cant blame them it good beat

  • @SpocksBrain425 who gives a fuck everything about this song is screaming of African Americanism anyway.

  • damn i found the original shit.. and joe is the man. a white dude wit soul

  • This WAS The SHIT BACK N The Day !!!!

  • Wow the piano and horn riff is really popular: It has also been sampled in "Funky" by Ultramagnetic MCs (1987), "Knick Knack Patty Wack" by EPMD (1989), "Blast From the Past" by Ultramagnetic MC's (1992), "California Love" by 2Pac featuring Dr. Dre (1995), "Astro Black" by Quasimoto (2000) and "He's Unbelievable" by Sarah Connor (October 29, 2002).

It was also included in the soundtrack for the popular video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

  • 2PAC MUSIC

  • @CaptainAntlers You speak of gangsters as if they're something to honor.

  • @CaptainAntlers Can't come up with their own shit, dumb niggs like you

  • Why is there no Live performance with Joe Cocker performing this song!?

  • This song is F-L-Y like a B-R-I-D in the S-K-Y

  • @DocSkribblez a brid shit on me today.

  • @DocSkribblez i agree Doc, 'Will it go around in circles'...

  • @DocSkribblez What's a "brid?" :)

  • They use this sample and for the chorus lyrics, it came from "Ronnie and the Street People - West Coast Poplock".

Mix them together, and you will get "California love" rap song.

  • 2pac remixed this as california love,right?

  • @davidtheking341 right

  • @davidtheking341 this was remixed to zapp n rogers california love then to tupacs . i think

  • @davidtheking341 damn straight!

  • EPMD, sampled it first!

    "Knick Knack Patty Wack"

  • @jstewart713 ULTRAMAGNETIC MCS, "Funky" seems to be be the first, Kool DJ Red Alert used it a lot.

    :-)

  • @jstewart713 i think the ultramagnetic mc's sampled it first

  • Tupac had a good taste in music!

  • @foutupourfoutu it was Dr. Dre that pitched the idea to Pac :P

  • @Aft3rsh0xx He did have good taste too!

  • @foutupourfoutu Even though hip hop is looked down on by many musicians, it's true that most artists in that genre have great taste in music. They've sampled everyone from David McCallum to Bernard Herrmann to 10cc to Miles Davis and so on. It's interesting to hear these songs used in new ways.

  • @ToujoursLAmour Didn't Pac sampled an Elton John song? Can't remember which one tho

  • awesome stuff, San Andreas!

  • Holy crap that's great.

  • Tupac - California Love

    raap!!!!

    nice

  • oooooooooh my goodness. so good.

  • Joe at his vocal prime!
