For my money, Derek is one of the 2 or 3 best vocalists , EVER..He rocked it totally...He's sooooo badddd....He set the standard in the mid 70's..And a badass guitarist as well.....
Pitchfork nails it. There are the DSH years and they are phenomenol. The Meatloaf album is great too but you can tell the songs were meant for Derek's vocals. If you listen to Meat, you hear Derek. That's not taking anything off the job ML did on this album....think I'll go listen....
Saw DSH play with "get the led out" last weekend, Dude pulled off Rock-n-Roll, sounded like plant (album version) then went into stranglehold. The guy is amazing, on vocals & guitar!!!
When I first saw what he looked like in this vid, I thought, "man, another washed up, poorly aging rock star," but as soon as he started singing, I couldn't believe it! The voice is STILL THERE!
mate, are you serious... we all get older, hopefully you will get the chance. He still has it but life goes on, he got older. are you still 12? Possibly, though you may feel a little pain when you piss hey...
No matter what Ted said Derek was the vocalist and nothing could change that forever. Everyone to this day says Derek was and extremely talented singer/player/writer.
Nuge is a legend. Saw him many times, boored the hell out of people with my Motor City Madman rants. Had a big old belt buckle with his name on it, posters, the whole nine yards.
That said, he fucked up when he broke his association with Derek/Grange/Davies. Too much ego, deprived us of a lot of great music they would have done. Instead, we got ever more screaming and tedious, self-indulgent guitar fucking that got progressively worse.
For those "rocket scientists here on bloob-tube-Derek St. Holmes WROTE this song.
Please, if anything-buy a clue.............
Go to Dirty South TV and hover your mouse over New Features (after you sign in), and then click on BandTube. Find Derek at Alpharetta, Georgia's Red Rabbit-click on it-crank it up and hold on for one hell of a ride.
P.S. He started the night off with Stranglehold and never looked back from there. The real "footage" begins around 4:15 or so.....
I'm more of a fan of Derek St. Holmes than I am of Ted. However, according to the credits of the original album, Derek only wrote "Hey Baby". Ted wrote everything else including "Stranglehold". Just for the record.
come on derek all these years and you cant play teds part ? wtf...blame it on volume...ha ha..hey you're still great just fucking on ya...but really dude take a lesson
hahaha derek can sing but he IS ted nugent? fuck please, ted is and will always be the most underrated guitar player of our time. just cause he doesnt have the voice dont mean shitt
just having the honor of playing with him must be awesome..this is awesome...and derek is one hell of a human.. thanks for this..and i hope youngsters keep going and oldies keep teaching
Hey, just saw Ted Nugent in Waukegan, IL tonight and was shocked that Derek St. Holmes joined him on stage. I have to say Derek saved the show. What a great experience -- we had our kids with us too and they got a real treat! Last time we saw Derek w/Ted was in '88 in Merrillville, IN. Sure hope he will always perform w/Ted from now on -- the songs
Derek took part in tonight were album perfect! I know he's playing w/Ted at HOB in Chicago tomorrow night (8/13/08). Check it out it's worth it
This video shows what a good, decent man Derek is. He took the time to give these two boys the thrill of playing in a band, no matter how impromptu it was, and it's something they'll never forget. Nugent, on the other hand, wouldn't even bother stopping to talk to them, unless their father paid him to. By the way, Derek, Ted sure needed you at the Anaheim HOB on 6-17-08. "Hey Baby" was so lame it made me sick! It's nothing without your awesome voice and rock solid rhythm guitar!
WOW, StH with a bunch of kids, and they have "maybe" a clue how great he is, but most likely not a clue JUST HOW GREAT he is, it's like a 13yr old learning diplomacy froma 60yr old GWashigton....they have NO idea of the greatness that they are next to, performing with, or sharing the stage with.
Don't sell them short. I cam only speak for my son (bass), but I started him on "music appreciation 101" when he was 4. Dylan knew who he was meeting. He played a guitar solo for the contest, but brought his bass "just in case". One of his guitar teachers told him bass players get better opportunities and it pays to be prepared. This same teacher was a friend and played with the late Clifford Davies. So yes, he knows how great this was; he told me it was the best day of his life.
his teacher is right, there seem to be better opportunities for bass players only because everyone tries to be 'the hero'. Can YOU imagine playing with Derek though? On a stage? You son did something VERY cool and you both should be proud, sorry if I came off as condescending, it wasn't my intention.
No offense taken; I was running out of letters. Let me also say what a FANTASTIC guy Derek is. I was a great experience to meet and talk with him. He loves working with the kids. If you go to the Camp Jam Website in the Atlanta Blog (Ready Set Rock)section, there is a link (parent/correspondent) to more pictures and videos from Sam Ash and Guitar center. He also knows this is on youtube and is fine with it.
