When I was a kid at Sunday school and sang that song, I used to feel that Jesus must really love best the kids who die young because they get the privilege of flying up to heaven to be angels and not suffer here as mortals on earth. I also thought that if you had the misfortune not to die young but became an adult, you had to get to heaven the hard way, avoid all temptations, study the Bible hard for a very long time until you die, and only then would Jesus let you into heaven.
