  • This is SV Thalassa from the Netherlands. Home port Harlingen. Sailed her for two years. This is no storm, just a delivery.

Probaply from the Canaries back to Holland.

  • sailing?

  • Those must be diesel sails she has flying.

  • That is so eerie....yet so beatutiful. it looks like a ghost ship.

  • Ship ahoy!

I was into tall ships, windjammers when in my teens. Everything from Baltic four-masted schooner to the proud Hamburg based Laeiz "Flying P-liners" Passat, Pamir, Preussen, Pommern, Potosi et al.

All Cape Horn certified magnificient ship.

Some remain like Pommern a museum ship in Mariehamn and Passat in Lubeck.

  • ....and if you see a sailing ship, it might be your last. So c'mon boys and join me for another round ashore, a sailor is a sailor ...just like he was before.

  • a sail boat of any decription is safer under sail than moter , no matter what , the land lubberrs can bugger off

  • is the ocean deep ?

  • Maybe just set some low fore-and-aft sail and let the engine tick over. Alternatively, if time is not important, how about heaving-to and waiting for the gale to abate.

  • She going on her engine and the weather is not really that bad.

  • Still no point risking life and limb. The crew on board are likely "clients" with lawyers waiting ashore....Sailing isn't what it used to be 100 years ago.

  • No it is not.

But under small sail and catching the wind she would go like a race horse under these conditions. She is however sailing straight against the wind here. Even bare riggings offer a lot of resistance and drag in a stiff breeze like this so the progress is cumbersome and struggling.

    Unable to identify her.

  • the atlantic ocean is so beautiful.

  • near gale - 7 Bf.

    gale - 8 Bf.

    severe gale - 9 Bf.

    storm - 10 Bf.

As far as I can see this is not more than 5 Bf.

  • big fun right there
