Something I noticed about soul artists of the '70s: if a song was recorded with a string section in the studio, they would usually replace the strings with horns during their live performances. The studio version of this song uses violins, but I guess they can't fit an orchestra on stage with them. So, someone re-writes the music for horns... and they sound good too. Most live performances eschew strings for horns. I guess it works out better that way, but I still love the strings on the record.
