In reality it took 10 days to film this scene and it started snowing during the shoot. The director Zhang Yimou liked the look of the snow, so he kept it in.

I think the story is that it started snowing while they were fighting (they were fighting for at least an hour, and the snow was very heavy). It was already very cold before they started fighting, since you could see their breath.

It's a bit of a hole in the movie, but it doesn't matter since it looks so good!

ANSWER TO THE SNOW QUESTION: this video and the last are missing some bits in between. Jin and Leo start to fight, after some talking about Mei, and after a while it starts to snow a lot. There's also a short scene of government soldiers on their way to attack the Flying Daggers.  I hope that helps a bit.

bec the dagger was still inside of her, thus preventing too much blood loss. prople who get stab dont actually die coz of the wound itself but coz of blood loss. so if someone stab you deep, be wise enough to ask them, rather, beg! not to pull the knife off so that you can keep your life... lol...
