What a beautiful song. I saw Lanois play a very dark version of this in Bala, Onttario through a Vox AC30 and Gibson Thunderbird. Very bluesy and intense. His pedal steel approach to guitar comes through in the acoustic version. Awesome. I'm sure the half-empty bottle of scotch helped. lol. He dedicated the song to his father, who was in the audience that night. I'll never forget it.
I saw Lanois perform a blistering 7 minute version of this song in Bala, Ontario through a Vox ad30 and Gibson Thunderbird! It sent shivers up and down my spine. I'm sure it helped that he was accompanied by a half empty bottle of hard liquor. lol. Incidentally he dedicated the tune to his father who was in the audience. He's an incredible live musician.
I don't know what it is about the character of his music, and alas, (shame shame) I don't speak french, but there's something about his songs that's comforting and ethereal. I'm sorry to say he's one of a kind, there's no one else like him -- we could do with more.
My name is Marie-Claire!
