  • Right after this performance Virgil Fox got the crowd to chant "B-A-C-H!" repeatedly. I remember hearing this very performance on a video called "The Joy Of Bach."

  • wow! whhooohhh!!!love this so much

  • Virgil Fox was a Master of music, LONG LIVE VIRGIL FOX !

  • Fox was the gayest of the gay.

  • @brandonflexer Hmmm... I'd have to say he was downright butch compared to Liberace : )

  • @fordtruxdad Agreed!

  • how can anyone listen to this and maintain that bach's organ compositions should be performed like "exercises"...exactly as written? the limitations of the organ in bach's time should NOT forever dictate how his music is performed.

  • I recall 5 years ago at Mass in SLC UT, I played this during communion and man did I get one nice applause and several people including children of all ages danced one nice gigue not to mention the bishop and priest. My father whom passed away in 2008, had the biggest smile on his face. Both him, the bishop, and the priest said that mas was so much fun and lively when I played the gigue.

The entire congregation congratulated me. some said it was not appropriate, but oh well

  • This is from the Entertainer album on a Wurlitzer. Do you have more tracks you can post? I LOVE IT!!

  • ....troppo..troppo...

    manca pero' ..la grancassa!

e poi il coretto degli sprecetati di Anagni..!

  • Nouja...:S dat geklap alleen alXD

  • Isn't this from his 'entertainer' album on a Wurlitzer theatre organ?

    I LOVE IT! Positively wonderful!

  • Such a joyous, complex, rhythmic work.

Was this performance on his Black Beauty electronic organ?

I wish he had cleaned up all the many "brush notes" - where he touches adjacent notes enough to cause them to sound.

Also, play the pedal notes after 2:58 each for full value so they can be better heard.

I should get a metronome reading and see if I can play it this fast. Would have loved to see his feet.

Audience may not hear the notes if clapping too loudly.

  • This was performed on a Wurlitzer Theatre organ originally placed at the New York Paramount Theatre on Times Square.

  • Oh. Thanks, Code

Yes, sounds more like a theater organ now that I can turn the volume up a little.

    (Family member was sleeping earlier.)

Surprisingly clear for a theater organ!

This was fun, but like E. Power Biggs' performance best.

    Thanks, Vinnie, for posting this.

I shall send the link to many.

  • i would love to have the music of the gigue fugue
