  • The video was good, but the British accent was too magical...

  • That was a great video. Required viewing for all new riders.

I live in Portland Oregon, West coast of the USA and everything is exactly the same, rainy weather and all. Well, except our roads are wider and we drive on the wrong side. :O)

  • It doesnt meter how you drive! After you crash your bike all you hear" O that bike was flying" Even if you had drivin at speed limit! Only the bike enthusiast understands that!

  • In Soviet Russia, Car hits you!

  • im happy they didnt crash that ducati :D

  • @supershinystoat & @thebobandroundyshow: the fact that you have both closed your accounts after your absolutely ridiculous and biased remarks about motorcyclists and the highway code speaks volumes about your piss-poor attitude to road-safety and your (lack-of) so-called 'expertise'..

on behalf of every other road user on two wheels, i thank you

ride defensively, enjoy your machine and as always out there,

    'THINK BIKE!'

  • I would like to see a version of this accident where the rider gets up...and beats the 'tard car driver to death with a crescent spanner he had wisely stashed somewhere :D Television at its finest hahah

  • That's great camanion. Should be promote on Poland too. Polish drivers didn't respect bikers. They make a lot of crashes, becouse they don't think about peopels on bikes.

  • @TheBobAndRoundyShow Who's the one whining here, really?

  • at the end of the day, there are poor drivers and riders in all walks of life

BUT! regardless of who's at fault, the biker WILL come off worst should there be an accident.

the only way to improve your OWN safety (and that of other road users) is to take some form of advanced training: IAM, ROSPA whatever.

before pointing the finger at everyone else, point it at YOURSELF and improve YOUR skills- whatever you drive or ride.

We ALL share the road and childish bickering does nothing for anyone..

  • Well said

  • Last one's definitely the best, most helpful I think. And to everyone arguing over whether it's usually the car or bikes fault, I think it usually is the cars fault, but the biker can easily prevent it, all you need to do if you see a car getting ready to come out of a T junction is slow down in case they don't see you, and the chances are that'll be enough. I heard one guy (steelhorseclub on here) say a good way to think of it is just to assume that everyone is out to kill you, and I agree!

  • Yeah i understand you and i cant argue with that. Its those that give us a bad reputation.

  • you mean to say that EVERY other vehicle driver is PERFECT & that ALL bikers are not?!

    that's nonsense!

we are ALL human- & to be human is to make mistakes

whether its the driver or riders fault, the biker WILL come off worst!

car drivers MUST make allowance for this! We too are human beings with family & friends, a mother & father, sons & daughters-just like you..

just because a person CHOOSES to ride a motorcycle does NOT make him/her a lawbreaker who is 'in the wrong always' by default

  • I wish I had both campaigns in my country, Spain.

  • This ad is the same as my accident i had 4 years ago and has screwed me for life. I struggle to to sustain a run wake with paain in my joints when i had the impact with the car all because the driver didn't look before pulling out .

in her exact word "sorry i just didn't look"

  • the same happened to me "sorry i was looking at the satnav" and i wrote my first bike off, after 2 weeks of being road legal.

  • Your story has two sides. I agree with you on the fact that motorcyclists tend to blame car drivers for causing accidents that would have been prevented if the motorcyclist would have driven more defensively. However, most of the accidents involving a motorcyclist are indeed caused by car drivers who simply are not paying attention. Motorcyclists are often more skilled in recognizing danger but you cannot notice every mistake made by anyone on the road.

  • lol thats like me telling you that you should be anticipating a bike coming.

  • Cool.. no i do not disagree with that fact... there are some serious nobs out there that make us all look bad but i think its a bit ignorant to believe that all bikers are like this =/ i for one.. am not, I just like you anticipate all eventualities.

but when there is a collision it doesn't matter who you blame... in the end 9-10 times it will be fault on the car driver. In some cases it is the bikers fault for going to fast or for just being a complete twat. I see where your coming from.

  • That makes sence, where do you get your facts? :P

  • And car drivers don't? Cars drive over the legal limit just as often as bikes, and unless they're just cruising around (which most people usually aren't) overtake whenever they can just like bikes, the only difference is that cars just don't get as many chances to overtake because they're so wide and slow.

  • Sure they do, and some do blame car drivers no matter what, but many bikers will admit when they're wrong, even if the were breaking makes no sense for a bike.

The big problem is that the code is made thinking about cars almost exclusively. Why wouldn't a bike be allowed to overtake on bends if it's slim enough to do so without going into the opposite lane? Why wouldn't a bike be allowed to lane split or ride the shoulder?

  • no reason why a biker cannot overtake on a bend- PROVIDED they have the training AND ability to deal with said bend, taking into account the position, speed & gear on approach, as well as any dead ground that may restrict views/ hazards incl. the anticipation of what may occur in the next ten seconds.

case in point, both IAM & ROSPA want to see candidates overtaking, for example,on a right hand bend as soon as the view opens up in the name of 'making progress'

    no such thing as 'accidents'

  • thank you!

but surely that is like asking, "how long is a piece of string?"

perhaps i could ask in return why so many car drivers feel the need/think it is acceptable to use a mobile phone/fiddle with a satnav/text whilst driving/argue with a passenger/drive with one hand out the window etc.?

or why lorry drivers do this? cyclists that?tractor drivers etc etc..

the only one accountable is the vehicle driver

    BUT

as i said before, REGARDLESS of who is at fault the biker will come off worst

  • MANY riders are safe, systematic, smooth and present NO danger to other road users- yet many drivers STILL treat motorcyclists- not as the vulnerable road users they are- but with contempt..

you seem like a reasonable chap and would it be fair of me to tar you with the same brush as such stereotypes as the school run-mums, white van man, salesman in a hurry, boy racer, red-light runner, mobile phone user, uninsured driver etc?

of course not! you cannot lump ALL bikers into one category!

  • Yea and if you want to be Responsible for you own life. You wouldent rely on the other person completely.

Their is more then one reason that car may cut off the motorcycle.

The problem with the video is that it is Fabricated, to prove a point.

Unfortunately it only show one Possibility.

Bottom line is, you cant blame someone else because you were not being defensive.

  • I love how the add campaign is "THINK". But yet the video is so fucking ONE MINDED it is ridiculous.

    THINK about this little scenario.

WHAT IF: THE BIKE RIDER DECIDED TO SLOW DOWN AND OBSERVE THE VEHICLES ACTION AHEAD OF THEM.

WHAT IF: they did that because, Just like in this DUMB ASS ADD CAMPAIGN, the rider actually THOUGHT.

Then again look who made the video. If you know anything about brainwashing this video is a reflection of that. People are so simple.

  • Brilliant ad, at last an ad that helps us bikers and maybe makes drivers think what we have to do when we ride!

  • totally agree with this kind of ad. I posted another ad that improves safety. check it out

  • two well thought clips. respect to the uk gov. i always wondered, why there are no car/bike safety ads in german tv.

they really should air ads like that ALL over the world.

    greets from austria ;D

  • Great safety vids, credit to the UK Govt for making them. There's nothing like this here in Japan - drivers here are very indecisive, see you coming, wait, and then poull out right in front of bike, at last minute.

  • was it just me or was anyone else expecting the person in the 2nd ad to get hit/die? i assumed they would like the other one

as a car driver motorcyclists appear out of nowhere and weave in and out of traffic and dont seem to obey speed limits, they bring problems on themselves imo

  • 'as a car driver motorcyclists appear out of nowhere'

If you cannot prove they are magicians, then could you please nip down to your local Specsavers, or tear up your licence.

  • Weaving in and out of traffic, no they're filtering most likely, which they are allowed to do. They don't appear from no where either you're just not looking far enough up the road to spot them and most likely looking for 2 track vehicles. As for speeding, some do, but tend to very sensible around junctions. It is hard esp for car only drivers to judge speed of an M/cycle. This ad is saying take a proper look for them.

  • 2nd video is creepy =/

  • yeah, i don't startle easy but that one made me flinch. good special effects

  • Second ad is really good. Wish it were on tv again.

  • I saw both on tv recently, glad they show them because some drivers seem so unaware of their surroundings.

  • Very effective ad, if only it was used more often. I'm 18 and i've been SMIDSY'd a few times (Sorry mate I didn't see you) Good thing I was going just under the limit each time, gave me enought time to spot the gits.

  • "at a junction, look, look and look again"

Hah. Where I live people would hardly even stop to even look three times.

  • lol it aint there in the first clip

  • <3 these commercial's scare me i screamed so loud when the bike crashed through the window..

  • Anyone know the the title of the track accompanying the last video? I'd appreciate a pointer? Ok its a tad cheesy, but its catchy & cheesy which makes it errr....less cheesy? :)

  • Great video. Speed almost always a factor. Kids buy these sports bikes and want to go fast. Going slower gives you more reaction time and lets you assess your surroundings better. Even then, there added risk. I once dropped a bike while STOPPED because my foot slipped on some loose sand on the road and the bike was kind of leaning to that side. I think the lesson from this video is SLOW DOWN. He was driving too fast at each near miss.

  • I wish people driving (think) about driving;here in usa, they just say they didnt see the motorcycle, mosty cause of inatteion and careless(even dont care -less).

  • este video apesta!!! en la primera escena el tipo se detiene muy adelante, casi en la mitad de la autopista. todo el mundo sabe que por muy precavido que seas, un automovil o una motocicleta puede impactar gravemente tu vehiculo

  • Great videos! I wish we had more in the USA like this. Thank you Britain!

  • very nice indeed

  • Great vid. Always remember: when you're on a bike assume that you're the only person on the road who knows what they're doing and everyone else just got their lisence yesterday. Ride accordingly.

This mindset has saved me from getting dumped in a ditch or wrapped around a pole more than once.

  • very nice

  • The last PIF was excellent. The amount of times the biker could've died. It does make you wonder.

  • Wonderful!

Well done UK. Would it was that our Western Australian Road Safety Council Chair, Grant Dorrington could be as effective in providing educating material for the media.

But he's just a government tool, and incapable of consideration of ALL road users in his QANGO position.

  • +1 to that mate. I'd really like to see the office of road safety in West Australia get their act into gear and do something like this.

  • Thanks Cob,

I reckon we need a nude ride in Perth. Get a 1000+ of us together, nude, and ride from the Police HQ to the Parliament for a "naked" rally.

    Then they'd notice us!!

  • This happens to me every friggen day i ride to work, evan though i ride the speed limet or under someone is always in a big hurry.

  • Nice Video

  • You dont "drive" a bike, you muppet :)

  • Great clips.

  • We need "Back off the revs!" signs on a lot of roads in California.

The second ad was pretty shocking. Damn, I'd be triple checking too if I saw that.

  • We don't really have those signs. Its there for the purpose of the ad. to say it isn't really that easy.

  • there is no fun to ride like this

  • but spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair eating your food through a straw is???

  • Yeah its the office actor haha..

  • Great video - and having survived this long - enough adrenalin for me. Keep riding.

  • is the voice tim from the office, martin freeman

  • like that is safety... but no adrenalin :)
