Yep, every time a biker gives the thumbs down to my comments it makes 'em look more dumb. Here's another radical comment..
Bikers should follow The Highway Code and NOT exceed the legal speed limit, NOT overtake at junctions, and NOT overtake cars signalling to turn right..yes? Thumb me down if you're a biker who deserves to crash..
Last one's definitely the best, most helpful I think. And to everyone arguing over whether it's usually the car or bikes fault, I think it usually is the cars fault, but the biker can easily prevent it, all you need to do if you see a car getting ready to come out of a T junction is slow down in case they don't see you, and the chances are that'll be enough. I heard one guy (steelhorseclub on here) say a good way to think of it is just to assume that everyone is out to kill you, and I agree!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yes, there are many very poor car drivers, but the point I'm making is that motorcyclists seem to think they're entitled to ignore many of the rules, and they're not. But whenever they have a collision they'll always blame the car driver.
This ad is the same as my accident i had 4 years ago and has screwed me for life. I struggle to to sustain a run wake with paain in my joints when i had the impact with the car all because the driver didn't look before pulling out .
Your story has two sides. I agree with you on the fact that motorcyclists tend to blame car drivers for causing accidents that would have been prevented if the motorcyclist would have driven more defensively. However, most of the accidents involving a motorcyclist are indeed caused by car drivers who simply are not paying attention. Motorcyclists are often more skilled in recognizing danger but you cannot notice every mistake made by anyone on the road.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Most 'accidents' are caused by 2 drivers/riders doing the wrong thing at the same time.
Even if a car driver emerges from a junction without looking properly, the other driver/rider should have anticipated what might/did happen. The collision would then be avoided.
The problem with bikers is they nearly ALL do the following things quite routinely..exceeding the legal speed limit of the road they're on, overtaking at junctions/on bends/brows of hills/on the left etc.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Don't worry, I always anticipate all eventualities. I've been a DSA Examiner (Car and Bike) for many years.
Presumably you disagree with the fact that motorcyclists should follow the Highway Code then? And that's why people like you have crashes, and then blame the other road user.
Cool.. no i do not disagree with that fact... there are some serious nobs out there that make us all look bad but i think its a bit ignorant to believe that all bikers are like this =/ i for one.. am not, I just like you anticipate all eventualities.
but when there is a collision it doesn't matter who you blame... in the end 9-10 times it will be fault on the car driver. In some cases it is the bikers fault for going to fast or for just being a complete twat. I see where your coming from.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Collisions normally occur when 2 or more road users make an error at the same time.
For example, if an inattentive car driver pulls out of a junction when it's not safe, he still won't be hit if the other driver/rider had anticipated the fact that he may pull out, and slows down accordingly.
It is a fact though that most motorcyclists ignore the Highway Code as a matter of routine.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Driving Examiners and ADIs notice everything that's happening on the road at all times. We see the actions of all road users/pedestrians/cyclists. So we do notice when other road users break rules, and I can honestly say that I've seldom seen a motorcyclist adhere to The Highway Code longer than very briefly.
Exceeding the speed limit routinely, overtaking at junctions/bends/brow of hill/pedestrian crossings..entering hatched markings etc etc
And car drivers don't? Cars drive over the legal limit just as often as bikes, and unless they're just cruising around (which most people usually aren't) overtake whenever they can just like bikes, the only difference is that cars just don't get as many chances to overtake because they're so wide and slow.
Sure they do, and some do blame car drivers no matter what, but many bikers will admit when they're wrong, even if the were breaking makes no sense for a bike.
The big problem is that the code is made thinking about cars almost exclusively. Why wouldn't a bike be allowed to overtake on bends if it's slim enough to do so without going into the opposite lane? Why wouldn't a bike be allowed to lane split or ride the shoulder?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The Code is not produced in any way to favour car drivers. It's for all road users, including pedestrians, and if everyone adhered to it there would be barely any 'accidents' at all.
As for why a biker shouldn't overtake on a bend even if there's room, you need to think further than that.
What's just around the bend? Possibly a junction with someone emerging who can't see round corners! Just one example.
no reason why a biker cannot overtake on a bend- PROVIDED they have the training AND ability to deal with said bend, taking into account the position, speed & gear on approach, as well as any dead ground that may restrict views/ hazards incl. the anticipation of what may occur in the next ten seconds.
case in point, both IAM & ROSPA want to see candidates overtaking, for example,on a right hand bend as soon as the view opens up in the name of 'making progress'
but surely that is like asking, "how long is a piece of string?"
perhaps i could ask in return why so many car drivers feel the need/think it is acceptable to use a mobile phone/fiddle with a satnav/text whilst driving/argue with a passenger/drive with one hand out the window etc.?
or why lorry drivers do this? cyclists that?tractor drivers etc etc..
the only one accountable is the vehicle driver
BUT
as i said before, REGARDLESS of who is at fault the biker will come off worst
MANY riders are safe, systematic, smooth and present NO danger to other road users- yet many drivers STILL treat motorcyclists- not as the vulnerable road users they are- but with contempt..
you seem like a reasonable chap and would it be fair of me to tar you with the same brush as such stereotypes as the school run-mums, white van man, salesman in a hurry, boy racer, red-light runner, mobile phone user, uninsured driver etc?
of course not! you cannot lump ALL bikers into one category!

Great safety vids, credit to the UK Govt for making them. There's nothing like this here in Japan - drivers here are very indecisive, see you coming, wait, and then poull out right in front of bike, at last minute.
was it just me or was anyone else expecting the person in the 2nd ad to get hit/die? i assumed they would like the other one
as a car driver motorcyclists appear out of nowhere and weave in and out of traffic and dont seem to obey speed limits, they bring problems on themselves imo
Weaving in and out of traffic, no they're filtering most likely, which they are allowed to do. They don't appear from no where either you're just not looking far enough up the road to spot them and most likely looking for 2 track vehicles. As for speeding, some do, but tend to very sensible around junctions. It is hard esp for car only drivers to judge speed of an M/cycle. This ad is saying take a proper look for them.
Very effective ad, if only it was used more often. I'm 18 and i've been SMIDSY'd a few times (Sorry mate I didn't see you) Good thing I was going just under the limit each time, gave me enought time to spot the gits.

Great video. Speed almost always a factor. Kids buy these sports bikes and want to go fast. Going slower gives you more reaction time and lets you assess your surroundings better. Even then, there added risk. I once dropped a bike while STOPPED because my foot slipped on some loose sand on the road and the bike was kind of leaning to that side. I think the lesson from this video is SLOW DOWN. He was driving too fast at each near miss.
I wish people driving (think) about driving;here in usa, they just say they didnt see the motorcycle, mosty cause of inatteion and careless(even dont care -less).

THINK about this little scenario.
WHAT IF: THE BIKE RIDER DECIDED TO SLOW DOWN AND OBSERVE THE VEHICLES ACTION AHEAD OF THEM.

Then again look who made the video. If you know anything about brainwashing this video is a reflection of that. People are so simple.
