  • The superfund called the Pit in Butte, Montana is a very good example of the lack of responsibility of the mining companies. This video is just the tip of the iceberg.

  • why dont you people show a reclaimrd job instead of always in the process of mining. reclaimed mines in most part are beatiful and useable lands, and sure solar and wind may generate some power, not near enough, unless we all want a big windmill in our yard, want to see something ugly, imagine all these goofy looking windmills everywhere. guarantee nobody wants them in eyes sight of thier property.WAKE UP PEOPLE

  • Thank you for posting this video. Great changes start with just one voice.

  • Just relaxing watching your vids.

    Jim.

  • very moving video shall anyone listen talking into the wind alone......dirty air, dirty water the water needs cleaned like the air now.....boils down just dirty money......not milk and honey.......

  • solar and wind could not meet our needs for power. theres not enough light in the winter and not enough wind. we have power needs and coal is the best way for power at the moment. 95% of people agree. but theres a small 5% who feel the need to try and stop it. by stoping coal mines millions would be jobless

  • maybe you should stop all the blame on coal mines. because unlike oil rigs and uranium mines. we actually try to proect the earth as best as we can. and we try to keep it as clean as we can. unlike oil and uranium

  • I am not placing all the blame on coal mining. We need to take time to expand our energy choices beyond the limited, unhealthy options of the past. Global warming is real.

  • Obviously your attempt at protection is FEEBLE at best! Do u people never think about your judgement day?

  • well maybe we should just stop coal production. than there will be very little power in the country and force us drill more oil wells and mine more uranium. come to the midwest and see how clean coal mining is here. you'd be surprised. i am 18 years old. and have grown up in coal mining and it is my future. as is it for millions of people.

  • The renewable energy in wind and solar power can produce more power that what we would need. There will be no future if our earth cannot support life. I thank you and respect you for discussing this issue with me.

  • i apologize about the comments being messed up. youtube would not allow me to post it in one comment.

  • That is ok. This video was made public so that everyone could express their opinions.

  • . how else do you purpose to power america? with oil power plants? the oil which is destroying the oceans. or perhaps nuclear power? well the uranium is mined also. wind and water can not supply us with power. coal is nesscery. as is minning. so please understand the msha is constantly approving their regulations. minning is safer than ever and being reclaimed better. im sure you wont agree, but you can atleast understand the need

  • there are natural sources, wind and solar power that would indeed work very efficiently and effectively and not harm anything.

  • Wind and solar power produces zero emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases. We owe it to ourselves and our children to slow down and consider the truth behind coal before we lock ourselves into a new generation of polluting plants that will be with us for the next 50 years. Coal-fired power plants are a leading cause of respiratory illness, and already account for over 40% of our nation's carbon dioxide emissions, the lead cause of global warming.

  • taking photos of a mine while active and saying thats how they leave it is wrong. maybe ill post some land that has been reclaimed. you'd never know it was mined. even the old coal mines from back in the early 1900's is being reclaimed. i think you need to step back and relize that mining is the life of alot of people. it supplys job needs, energy needs, and even education on the environment for young ones. finally.

  • what about all the wildlife that is put in danger? Where are they supposed to go? All things made by Creator are part of the balance and when that balance is disturbed humans suffer for it. Who checks to see if all wildlife is out of the area before the blasting starts?

  • Studies found that the natural return of forests to mountaintop mines reclaimed with grasses under hay and pasture or wildlife post-mining land uses occurs very slowly. Full reforestation across a large mine site in such cases may not occur for hundreds of years

  • peabody is on pace to produce around 265 million tons of coal this year which will supply 10 precent of the countrys energy needs. also the land once reclaimed has greater values for agricultural or wildlife needs

  • Coal companies have forever buried over 1,200 miles of biologically crucial Appalichian headwaters streams. Over 100 wells a year dry up. Drinking water is poisoned. A quarter of the mountains in WV coal fiels have been leveled.

  • all of this is under strick regulations by msha. mines are required to under go constant inspections, where if an infraction is found the mine must resolve the issue before continuing minning. in some cases having equipment shut down for the slightest oil leak. weather you agree or not coal mining is nesscery. not only for energy but fuel also.

  • mountaintop removal coal mining requires the building of giant sludge dams, which can hold billions of gallons of toxic coal sludge behind un-reinforced earthen dams. These slurries are necessary because, unlike coal from underground mines, coal from mountaintop removal requires extensive washing to separate the coal from debris and residues from the blasting of bedrock. As of 2000, there were more than 600 sludge impoundments across the Appalachian coalfields.

  • Chemical analyses of this sludge indicate it contains large amounts of arsenic, mercury, lead, copper, and chromium, among other toxins, which eventually seep into the drinking water supply of nearby communities.

  • you do relize once mining operations are complete that it is state and fedreal laws that they most reclaim the land? in most cases the land is more profitable than its orignal state...

  • Good job sister, as long as there is earth left man will try and destroy her. We do what we can to ensure that the next 7 generations have a place to stand. Keep up the good work. love yah Poppa Bear

  • thank you to bringing this to our attention and the links.i have seen what men can do,we speak let mother nature run it's course when we steal from mother to put nothing back, say can not stand in the way progress when this world dries up will we run to the ocean for salt water to lick our wounds, most men only care for one thing, not you or me,or brothers or sisters they only care for power and money.....wado.....

  • You go girl!! Another fine example of the power of images and the pen..You are my hero and I love you...Pamela
