I'm an atheist and so I look at the Bible stories differently. I don't take them at face value. I look at them as storytelling, trying to promote themes like novels. I look at the figures in those stories as representative of something. For me, the figure of Satan as the fallen angel is one I believe we as humans can sympathize with. Here is an angel who in the story of Job, challenges God to deprive Job and make him suffer. He stands up to authority, which is something we all want to do.

@BarryGormley2010 - The books we now know changed and evolved over years. Look up "The Sources Theory" to see about the various authors of the Pentateuch. If you mean which book in its current form was the first to get there, there's a strong argument it's probably Deuteronomy.
A lot of sites saying Job is oldest also go with the traditional view that Moses wrote the Pentateuch. I could be mistaken, but I don't think any serious OT scholar thinks that today.

He does exist! I have been a victim of demons holding me down in my bed in the middle of the day and another time it was night time. nice vid but I don't necessarily agree with your claim that 1 Chron is meant to show a proper name for the Hebrew word but perhaps there is some explanation going into that besides just the fact that most translations use Satan instead of an adversary. Yes, Satan evolved, no doubt. Just like adam (Hebrew word for man) later, thanks to the translator bias, became Adam, transliterated proper noun and it never should have.
8:36 is not true. The word in the Chron verse is שטן so without the "ha" or the other one to make it the or an but that's like us saying "and adversary stood up" instead of "and an adversary stood up" The meaning of the word is still adversary, not Satan transliterated with a capital S tacked on for good measure. Young's literal translation has "And there standeth up an adversary against Israel, and persuadeth David to number Israel," The capital S is an assumption of later translators.
@TruthSurge My thought is that there is no indicator of capitals in Hebrew so what did the author mean and wouldn't a better translation be Adversary, not Satan and transliterating a Hebrew word into something it never was? Seems to me the later translators are to blame here. They are projecting their modern beliefs (that there was a being named Satan) and we get this propagated over and over until it just seems right. the adversary, an adversary or adversary is still not Satan.
Weird. when you look at blueletterbible (d o t) org, you can see the root Hebrew and root Greek to the side for all the English words/phrases but the ACTUAL Hebrew/Greek is up in another paragraph and you don't really see the nuances like the suffixes/prefixes that modify them to create tenses and "the" or "an" meanings. Here is the Hebrew for the Job and Samuel verses and you can see they are slightly different.

I'm an atheist and so I look at the Bible stories differently. I don't take them at face value. I look at them as storytelling, trying to promote themes like novels. I look at the figures in those stories as representative of something. For me, the figure of Satan as the fallen angel is one I believe we as humans can sympathize with. Here is an angel who in the story of Job, challenges God to deprive Job and make him suffer. He stands up to authority, which is something we all want to do.

I don't take Bible stories seriously but I still think that some of it is great drama, like the betrayal that Judas showed to Christ. That is an interesting story to me, I just don't take it literally as an atheist.

@BarryGormley2010 - The books we now know changed and evolved over years. Look up "The Sources Theory" to see about the various authors of the Pentateuch. If you mean which book in its current form was the first to get there, there's a strong argument it's probably Deuteronomy.
A lot of sites saying Job is oldest also go with the traditional view that Moses wrote the Pentateuch. I could be mistaken, but I don't think any serious OT scholar thinks that today.

He does exist! I have been a victim of demons holding me down in my bed in the middle of the day and another time it was night time. I was sleeping and the same force began to lift me and when I started to pray it went away. Those spirits were still around cuz I could feel the presence so I kept praying till I felt peace. There is a God.

nice vid but I don't necessarily agree with your claim that 1 Chron is meant to show a proper name for the Hebrew word but perhaps there is some explanation going into that besides just the fact that most translations use Satan instead of an adversary. Yes, Satan evolved, no doubt. Just like adam (Hebrew word for man) later, thanks to the translator bias, became Adam, transliterated proper noun and it never should have.

8:36 is not true. The word in the Chron verse is שטן so without the "ha" or the other one to make it the or an but that's like us saying "and adversary stood up" instead of "and an adversary stood up" The meaning of the word is still adversary, not Satan transliterated with a capital S tacked on for good measure. Young's literal translation has "And there standeth up an adversary against Israel, and persuadeth David to number Israel," The capital S is an assumption of later translators.

@TruthSurge My thought is that there is no indicator of capitals in Hebrew so what did the author mean and wouldn't a better translation be Adversary, not Satan and transliterating a Hebrew word into something it never was? Seems to me the later translators are to blame here. They are projecting their modern beliefs (that there was a being named Satan) and we get this propagated over and over until it just seems right. the adversary, an adversary or adversary is still not Satan.

Weird. when you look at blueletterbible (d o t) org, you can see the root Hebrew and root Greek to the side for all the English words/phrases but the ACTUAL Hebrew/Greek is up in another paragraph and you don't really see the nuances like the suffixes/prefixes that modify them to create tenses and "the" or "an" meanings. Here is the Hebrew for the Job and Samuel verses and you can see they are slightly different.
Job 1:6 השטן (the satan)
1 Sam 29:4 לשטן (a satan)
