All you have to do is listen to the lyrics in her songs to see some of the cynicism she had towards men, sex, and relationships even in her first CD "Frank". She seemed very conscious of her addictions and at least never pretended she was cured.

@Soulsurfer1 she didn't die for NO REASON, she died from alcohol withdrawal, which is VERY dangerous to do unsupervised.....she kinda got over the illegal drugs and prescriptions and just used booze towards the end, but I can honestly say booze is MUCH worse for the body than heroin, and some others. Heroin withdrawal is also VERY painful, but usually never life threatening.
