What does 'star of the day' mean in China? Is it a prestigious yearly award, weekly, or even daily? I'm just wondering.

It is an award given by CCTV daily during the Beijing olympic period. CCTV nominated 5 nominees(normally chinese athletes) for the general public to vote. Cheng Fei got more than 200,000 votes to get the award for 17/08/2008.
