I'd say usually 5-7 on each side, so 12-15or so total for their major Fall and Spring concerts in Memorial Hall on the Chapel Hill campus. This one was Cameron's very first solo as a Clef, so note the look of 'relief' on his face as he finishes and turns away....
They rehearse twice each week for 3+ hours each time, and usually have 1-3 local gigs each week plus maybe a weekend travel gig, some short but still have to gather and perform. So in a few words, it's tough - to be a full time student and a Clef. We have likened it to a varsity sport in terms of total time commitment, without the million dollar transition to the NBA!!! Hah!
oh wow they really have to be dedicated to the group if they put so much time into it. You sure know a lot about the Clefs! Are you like their manager or something? haha
Nope - they are entirely self-managed from within the group - business manager, publicity, music director, do all their own arrangements, etc. I'm a member of the extended Clef 'family', but admittedly a Clefaholic......
Hey clefhangerfan, first of all, thanks so much for posting these. I just discovered them this week and thoroughly enjoy them. I wanted to ask if you knew how long the vests w/ flair have been a tradition?
The Clefs are celeberating 31 years this year, and most older pictures I've seen of them have at least the vests and bow ties. I'm not certain about the length of history of the buttons/flair on the vests, so I'll ask one of the Clefs if he'll reply too with some more details.
The vests and bowties have been a tradition in our group since it first performed as the Clef Hangers, in the Pit here at UNC in the spring of 1977. The vests and buttons have grown in tradition and number over the years, and now buttons and vests are even passed down from member to member. You can learn more about our group's history on our website.
i wish they were on the sing-off

Nope - not me. Although I saw that clip from WRAL and know everyone they interviewed. I might go to this week's Watch Party - not sure yet.
