  • You're doing it the hard way, Try using the power chords. Less jumping around and finger contortion. In essence, try playing it in the same manner that Alex does.

  • This can be played different ways, but the ROOT note of the chord is always the same.I thought the hammer off sounded wrong. It can be done as a slide. And don't forget Geddy is not playing exactly the same as Alex and changes things up also with bass.Musicians always change chords types in concert from one performance to the next. They use Power chords or not and they use capos.

  • you do the weird chord wierdly

    402400 gives G# A E B B E

    402450 (this vid way) gives G# A E B E E

theres almost no difference in sound but the first one is MUCH easier to slide to in the progression if you use ring finger on 6th string and little finger on 3rd string

    lol @ puregeniuscomedy

  • give me a fuckin break . . i have been playing it incomplete for 15 years. you work it out fine. besides i can play the intro correct!

  • no cigar!

  • @Puregeniuscomedy Sorry, but that's incorrect. Check the album for yourself.

  • @GuitarMusicTheoryTab Obviously he can't read...

  • @GuitarMusicTheoryTab It's both.. i mean, it's "The Spirit of Radio" on Permanent Waves but on "Exit, Stage Left" Geddy goes, "This is.. the Spirit of the Radio"

i'm not saying you're wrong, but i'm just saying that it's often referred to as the.

    Nice tut though(:

  • @Spazmaztic On "Exit...Stage Left" Geddy clearly introduces the song correctly with "This is 'The Spirit of Radio'". If you think otherwise then I suggest you get your ears checked and make another appointment with your shrink. You're clearly hearing voices in your head...

  • @PCForrest There seems like a "the" but if you want to be a youtube king and get into comment wars, i'm not interested..

  • @Spazmaztic Comment war? If you were interested enough to comment in the first place you should be intertested in any criticism that it invokes. "There seems..." is not a fact. It's just your opinion of what you think you can hear. My opinion is that he does not say "...the Radio", nor does it "seem" like it. The song's title is, and always has been, "The Spirit of Radio" -- and of all people, Geddy should know!

  • @Spazmaztic sometimes people trip up when they speak - even in concert

this doesn't affect the title of the song

it may however spawn in-jokes (a la nathan fillion's "flan")

  • @Puregeniuscomedy Maybe you should do your homework before calling someone a retard, now you just look like an ignorant prick.

  • @Puregeniuscomedy hes right, its the spirit of radio

  • @Puregeniuscomedy Actually, it's The Spirit OF Radio...retard.

  • it's the spirit of radio....

    -.-''

  • @Puregeniuscomedy hahahahaha owned!

  • @Puregeniuscomedy wow man, not sure if you are being serious, but either way you are an idiot.

  • @Puregeniuscomedy haha dude u fail

  • fuck thank u tht part was confusing on other lessons thx man good teaching alex is unbelievbal with his crazy chord progessions

  • well, i guess Alex's video lesson ended all the debates on this one :-)

  • what you say is a hammer on from fret 2-4 on the 5th string is more of a power chord slide

  • 4 (ring finger)

    2 (index)

    2 (index)

    4 (pinky)

    0

    0

  • @mogulmidis yeah i was about to say

  • yep... look at the live footage of lifeson doing that E/G# chord. play it like you said but leave out the high e note with the pinky. should look like this:

    4 (ring finger)

    2 (index)

    2 (index)

    4 (pinky)

the open high b and e strings need to ring out, which is classic lifeson!

  • That E/G# chord shape sure sounds accurate. But that's not the chord shape Alex Lifeson typically uses live.

  • You're right - it's much simpler (and accurate) to barre the 4th fret, then add the open Cmajor shape in front of it - 476454, low to high. Works with the different arpeggiations Alex does, where the one shown doesn't, nor does the 422400 version.

  • Yep, you're right. That's how I saw Alex do it. Just remember that the purpose of this lesson is to show you how you COULD use the "D form" barre chord.

  • nice lesson, i went to a rush concert recently and those aren't the chords alex uses though ..

  • @ChickenChokers ya the song is always evolving live.

  • @ChickenChokers It doesnt realy matter if its the same notes :P

  • Thanks Desi, your videos are great. Can you do an explanation on Hotel California solo?
