i want jeff loomis to have babies with Tosin Abasi, steve vai, joe satriani, yngwie malmsteen, marty friedman, brendon small, and himself so they could have the most badass super mega shred baby ever >:D muhahahahahahaha its perfect!
To all those sayin 'jeff has no feeling, or is just a mindless shredder', this song says fuck you to them all, this has the perfect balance of expression and technical excellence.
@hiddeninmist11 sadly those people will never hear this. Theyve just heard like one nevermore song and got intimidated by how good he is, and said "he has no feeling waa waa waa"
@Niamorg1007 Marty Friedman more than anybody. Sounds like Jewel which is on Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn and Marty does the opening almost the same (from memory anyway probably sounds way different comparitively). Jeff seems to do well at switching between the styles of Jason and Marty.
@Whyrendog Yeah the intro does sound a bit like Jewel. Becker's influence on Loomis is undeniable. Many licks , solos, and sweep arpeggios played by Loomis tend to have the same classical sound than some stuff composed by Becker.
@5t3Maiden of course there is don't be suborn, just because notes are played one at a time doesn't make the entire song a "solo". Most instrumental song's have a solo section which quite clearly this song's begins at 1:59. You knew exactly what i meant so why be pedantic, was it in the hope's of getting a +1 thumbs up, most likely...
I'm sorry but I gotta be real here, I believe that Jason Becker is better than both Marty Friedman and Jeff Loomis. But I think Jeff Loomis is better than Marty Friedman.
@SanctumZero yeah i was very high..jeff loomis and marty friedman are definately better then jason becker ..you must be jokin??..i mean the reason why i said it was because of this cute lil comment i saw about marty friedman + Jason becker = jeff loomis..in any way that is fuckin stupid..personally i know jsaon is at least more talented than jeff loomis and marty friedman and its insulting saying that marty friedman and jason were equeal..not to mention the fact that they add up to jeff? how sad
This song is like a roller coaster ride. It starts off like a nocturne, proceeds with a soaring solo, then turns fucking ugly, then picks back up with the soaring feeling. This is probably what speed balling feels like.
@Ithyphallics Yeah, of course and at last Jason Becker gets some credit for his influence on Jeff Loomis. Both incredible players but we just don't know how much more Jason Becker would have produced. Very sad that he has that nasty debilitating disease.
@masterofktulu11 well all of you people are fucktards.....sorry man ...but jason becker was soooo much better than marty friedman.....jason becker was soomuch better than jeff loomis....yall need to listen to some more jason becker because man yall niggas is trippin shit.....i LOVE jeff loomis...but you should know that technally and creativley jason was better...its just how it is...i kno some of you will cry...but thats just to bad
@ellogovenah2011 That's your opinion, and you're entitled to it, as I am. One thing is for sure, and it is the great influence Jason Becker and Cacophony are in Jeff Loomis playing.

@ALessoninViolence I think he's using a technique called a "flutter" where you basically slide your hand over the whammy bar pushing it down slightly to create a super fast mini-dive bomb and back. You must have a floating bridge to do it.
@ChuckNorris134 you also need a pretty good floyd, not a licensed one unfortunately, or at least one with a good sustain block. i can get awesome fluttering
noises with my original floyd and schaller. licensed not so much and edge pro, at the beginning yes, but the bushings on the trem arm wear out so fast that it loosens
This song makes me cry. Jason Becker is my favourite guitarist, no doubt, and this just screams Becker. Such a beautiful sound. You really have to dig deep for guitarists like Loomis and Becker who really make guitars not only sing, but weep.
@Requiemxtoxinnocence Haha dude I was just about to post the same thing! It literally is the exact same notes in the 1st arpeggio, only if it went up one more octave haha. Not saying he's copying or anything, that would be absurd. Just something that as a musician and a longtime final fantasy fan I could happen to notice and smile lol
You know, it really sucks that Jeff Loomis isn't more known than how much he is now. I just started listening to Nevermore and Jeff Loomis a year ago, and it took me a long time to figure out that Jeff Loomis came out with a solo project of his own. It's very sad that he is not more known because people deserve to hear this kind of music. It is so emotionally driving, that it leaves me speechless. What has this fucking world come to?
Do you guys know anything? this song is greatly influenced by marty freidman and jason becker all of the way, not the guy from suicide silence? wtf why would even bring him into this?
you can spend your whole life learning music theory and not take it anywhere. its all about applying what youve learned with your raw emotions and skill to tread new territories. Those who dont actively use theory are not real musicians in my opinion.
First time I saw Loomis was during an Opeth concert some years ago (for Ghost Reveries) and Nevermore was playing just before Opeth (I didn't know them back then). People always talk about scale, does anybody here realize there are many guitarists like myself who have never taken lessons, just learn and write by ear? You don't have to know the name of the car to be able to drive it if you catch my drift. Jeff Loomis surprised me as a new-age guitarist compared to many other failures. He really reminds me of Jason Becker before the tragedy.
@mozarthendrix That's fairly ignorant of you. I can't think of one good guitarist who doesn't know any theory. I highly doubt you know how to write music. Jason Becker would be ashamed of you for saying such things. By the way. Mozart was a brilliant composer. Hendrix was a drugged up wanker.
@bill14231393 Theory without creativity is useless. I agree with mozart me and my buddy have been jamming together for a while and we never took lessons or took a college class on how to learn how to write a song. It comes from the heart man not from a book. Ya wanka
@TheHungryShredder1 It really does... I listen to this song when I'm about to go to sleep occasionally. And I've noticed a pattern, that every time I do, I have a lucid dream. Its awesome. Thank you Jeff Loomis.
I love how at :50 he goes from an OK solo but then he couldn't help just playing a scale up and down so he did. IMO he's really over rated. Sure, he's pretty good but a lot of other musicians move me more emotionally than he does
@SLushy96 lol your 14 years old you don't know what good music is, you probably think fucking greenday is emotional. Loomis is one of the leaders of the new wave of innovative playing, alongside Govan and Eklundh. I love how people go on about emotional playing yet don't realize when you get down to it, theres very few players that can write off pure ear and no theory and make it sound good.
His vibrato is amazing, and his precision is unbelievable. He's far from overrated.
@Kugarok Sorry if my profile is misleading (It's ancient) but you have the wrong idea my friend. A good musician can learn to respect someone else's opinion and not automatically call them an emo fag whenever they disagree with something. Also, yes, I am 14. Doesn't mean I don't have taste
@SLushy96 Although I don't agree on your opinion on Jeff Loomis, I'm glad to see that even the youngest of youtube users can be much more mature in their commenting, and in the opinion itself. So yes, I do disagree greatly. And I personally believe that he can blend speed and emotion almost flawlessly, unlike others like Michael Angelo Batio, who can do no such thing. But seriously, glad to see somebody on here who's 14, and more mature then half of this audience.
tear inducing! as an educated black man from the streets, i can proudly say that this is one of the most beautiful guitar pieces i've heard in my life
How can you not jizz to this song from start to finish. I can't control myself when Loomis starts playing. This is one of my favs on the album. Love his playing and style. He's my inspiration to not stop. When I listen to this, I can't help but think of Becker.

So yes, I do disagree greatly. And I personally believe that he can blend speed and emotion almost flawlessly, unlike others like Michael Angelo Batio, who can do no such thing. But seriously, glad to see somebody on here who's 14, and more mature then half of this audience.

I love Jeff Loomis music, but I own a six string and do not know how to translate his 7 string songs for myself to learn. Too bad...

How can you not jizz to this song from start to finish. I can't control myself when Loomis starts playing. This is one of my favs on the album. Love his playing and style. He's my inspiration to not stop. When I listen to this, I can't help but think of Becker.

If there were a song I could pick to die to, it would be this song.

Hey people: The sound of the solo guitar riff at the beginning, reminds me
of "Jewel" which is played by Marty Friedman and Jason in the CD "Dragon Kiss".
Let me know if I'm wrong. Thanks!!!
