yea, maybe its only that powerful when he is like 20,000 leagues under the sea, when the pressure is so high, that bubble reaches the temperature of the surface of the sun
At the time I believe I paid about $18 for him. I think depending on the fish store you go to you might find varying prices. They sell anywhere from 14 - 25 depending on your LFS :)
Well, depending on the type of pistol shrimp. I would say that most goby pistols would easily pair up with a YWG but it may take some time. Could happen overnight OR it could take a couple weeks or months, depending on the size of your aquarium and how complex your rockwork is :) they make a very entertaining pair.
There are special Gobies that are well known to partner up with pistol shrimp. These gobies are classified as "Shrimp Gobies" if you google shrimp gobies you will likely get several species that do well with pistol shrimps :) YWG are the most popular and more commercially available.
The YWG is one of the few gobies that have been successfully bred in captivity, therefore making it readily available at most saltwater local fish stores. You can also find them online.
i'm pretty sure he killed my scooter blenny, you can't have any small frags on the sand becasue he'll berry it for support in his underground structure, if you have the tank in your bed room he can wake you up in the night with his bloody snapping , i'm not sure on this one but i think he'll kill any worms he finds in the substrate and he's making tunnels all the time so he'll find worms. feeding him is quite hard when he's paired with a goby because the goby allways gets there first.
a word of warning to anyone who wants to get a pistol shrimp. i wouldn't say the pistol shrimp a.k.a snappy face is entirely reef safe you can't have those feather dusters (the ones you place in the sand) he killed 3 of mine, chopped them into pieces. you can't have any macroalge plants in there at all because he'll go out of his way to chop it into a million pieces he won't eat it tho!! he just chops it up because he likes to chop so basically don't put anything in there that he can chop.
Um thats not a pistol shrimp. Pistol shrimp are normally red and one claw is much smaller than the other. I cant remember the name of that shrimp, but its not pistol.
It is a pistol shrimp of the genus Alpheus (part of the family Alpheidae which are called pistol/snapping shrimps). It looks like Alpheus bellulus, or a tiger pistol shrimp, to me. I have the a tiger pistol shrimp in my tank paired with Randall's shrimp goby (Amblyeleotris randalli). I highly doubt that any related group of animals would be identified as related by their colors (even names like cyanobacteria doesn't mean all species are blue-green).
In the wild the goby sits at the entrance of the burrow and alerts the shrimp if their is any danger(most of the shrimps have bad eyesight), then the shrimp retreats down into the burrow followed by the goby
its because it cant, if it could it'd cause a massive nuclear explosion by fusing two hydrogen atoms togeather into helium, it only creates a shock wave equivilent to a jet breaking the sound barrier which is enough to stun or kill other shrimps or whatever prey they feed on
Snapping shrimp produce a loud crackling noise that is intense enough to disturb underwater communication. This sound originates from the violent collapse of a large cavitation bubble generated under the tensile forces of a high-velocity water jet formed when the shrimp's snapper-claw snaps shut.
A symbiotic relationship, the shrimp provides a place to escape for the fish, and at the same time (due to the shrimp's terrible vision), the fish provides the perfect out-look for danger. Stunning
check out my pair also awesome video of them together

damnass123killer 3 years ago
The relationship between those two creatures sure is amazing and fun to watch, but the dam snapping kept me up at night, so no more pistol shrimp.
YWGs by themselves are still very interesting to watch.

My pistol shrimp stunned my YWG as soon as I put him in...Maybe they need to be introduced together or the goby first.

One of the best examples of a symbiotic relationship. I wonder how they find each other in the first place & initiate partnership.

Shrimps generally have poor eyesight. So Gobies serve as their guards while the shrimp digs. In turn the Gobies have a home...
