  • I think it was kind of shitty to use a three year old program.... a bit of a cop out in my opinion. Anyway, the French judge should have kept her mouth shut, and we'd still have the 6.0 system.

  • In Russia there used to be a joke about this absurd situation: The Canadian national ice hockey team lodged a complaint with IOC, because they decided that they'd deserved gold medals in figure skating, too.

  • wow they r reeeally in sync

  • whats the song again??

  • @Lalaland12341000 GoEs really played a part in getting Evan points. His landings were good, so I guess all the jumps that were just on par for Plushy didn't count for as much--but not by much. I'm sad about it but, that's just how the judging goes.

  • This is my all-time favorite Olympic performance. Beautiful and flawless.

  • man they owned..

the bribed judge really tarnished the otherwise a perfect moment.

  • best routine ever!

  • lol! have you been watching tonight?

  • I mean nature

  • Read my previous remark bluesmarties1984. This is a capital-(I)ibra capital (I)day1010...this isn't Mum. She removed ALL her remarks. This a VERY disturbed person. • I'll give you that Elena/Anton deserved to win, but not because of the red dress (which was fabulous), but because of their amazing speed, unity, line, and difficulty. the pair spiral where she's in a spread eagle and the death spirals were miles above Sale/Pelletier, for starters.

  • it looks like they bought their costumes from the Gap

  • I love all the lively debate still going on about this controversy. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was somewhere I could see Ice Storm: The Salé and Pelletier Affair (2006). I never got to see it and have been looking for it for awhile; it does not seem to be anywhere.

  • itis so nice too see this, wow,

  • libralady (I think I need your email address: I'm too long-winded!) First, in addition to changing the scoring, commentators need to go! (Type on the screen if a skater did a triple lutz, a quad toeloop, etc. That's what I want to hear.) Three videos today: 1) Scott was sure Alexei had "conceded" the long program to Plushenko in 2002, yet on Canadian TV we hear, "And he (Alexei) knows he's got it." 2) THIS performance - - They had them winning "as soon as she heard 5.7"; 3) Anissina (cont'd)

  • Part II I watched part of Anissina's ice dancing; before she and partner even started, Tom (?) announces, "They have TRIVIALIZED Martin Luther King's 'I Have a Dream Speech'!" Her costume symbolizes freedom; partner's represents slavery. I was impressed because their whole program was set up from the get-go; HOW did that minimize King's words?? See - - they HAVE to go. I tried to see if B&S had done more jumps, overheads - - ironic how S bobbled as Sergei did yet they won!! (cont'd)

  • libralady Part IV Even though I know ranking counts more than points, I totaled the scores for both pairs - - S&P, I believe, were a few points higher, which is part of the reason the crowd was stunned; BUT Presentation marks are WEIGHTED MORE. SO, with S&P just missing with points and the rank, the contest is over. I hadn't read that Jamie complained; I read Frenchie confessed that night AND the next day to four officials (but then denied she'd been pressured when writing the statement)!

  • Nobody ignored the mistakes-the technical mistake B&S had was reflected in their technical marks. They won due to the presentation which was better than that of S&P.

M&D lost to G&G partly because they performed weak during all the season before the OG, so basically the judges already didn't expected them to skate the way they did. And secondly- G&G despite their mistakes had better skating skills and body lines (well, M&D still had better program, so it was very close really)

  • Can't we be friends? I misread the topic. ITA agree with your take on S&P and would hate to be at cyber war with somone who has your views. S&P were barely Olympic calibre and blew the short to boot, but had the nerve to make a stink over Anton's stumble? S&P should never have made the podium even!

  • right

i thought about the same thing

maybe anton's bubble was caused by jamie's "attack"

  • very very true

  • I didn't mention other judges. I have asked whether you had looked on the scores American and Canadian judges gave to the top six pairs.

And after that you may look also at the results of 2001 Worlds, where the best skaters were given only silver, and Sale&Pelletier- gold' despite the fact they didn't deserve it.

  • Love Means Never Having To Say... You're Sorry.

  • libralady Part III I didn't realize S&P had won nine major events in two years whereas B&S had won five from '98-'02??

Seven years ago, listening to the dynamic duo commentating, who WOULDN'T have thought they'd won (even before skating)!!

I wasn't inspired as much with B&S or S&P as I was with G&G and M&D; but watching both programs for an hour, SANDY actually made the definitive comment: "They had the harder routine, weaving between their difficult moves." (cont'd)

  • LIBRALADY - - (1st part) I noticed that S&P won 3 Skate Americas; B&S won one; S&P won one Worlds. B&S won one Skate canad; S&P won two - - I didn' see where Artur competed (or placed) at a World's. Anyway, I agree that Artur and Sergei were in a class by themselves - - I'm wondering if Artur should have been a singles skater. So many people focus on Sergei's ability to skate "as if one " with Katia. Artur could convery that BUT if that is the EMPHASIS of his role, that is a shame. (cont'd)

  • Do you think Canadian judge didn't cheat? Or an American judge? Have you look at their scores?

  • son los mejores se merecian estar solos en el 1 puesto

  • lifeless, boring, too much forward skating, too much skating apart, not very artistic... some of their movements didnt make any sense. their tainted gold is worthless.

  • oh you know i'm so jealous, i wish i could skate an equally boring routine and win a silver medal and whine about it till i get a gold medal. yup thats so true.

  • This was when I first became a fan of theirs. They're so great.

  • i absolutely love them

  • Well I agree with that. Still, I cannot recall one single vote trading scandals between american judges. Let's be fair, that night the fix was in and that should count. It's ok with me if people prefer BZ over SP, but as I said: let's be fair...you cannot deny the fact SP were strong contenders for the gold as much as BZ. The whole discussion id just a matter of taste.

  • As someone who enjoys to watch figure skating rather than delve deeply into a persistently pointing out technical errors or difficulty in choreography, I loved watching both performances, BOTH had beautiful and brilliant routines. Had the Russians been the only ones to win the medals the I would say they deserved it although I prefer the Canadians but the Canadians got a well deserved gold and the Russians lost NOTHING, this was dealt with 6 years ago, they got gold, fantastic for both of them.

  • Instead of concentrating on the skaters (and saying who is better than who), the 2002 Olympics pairs skating were a black eye due to the judges and the outside pressure that was put on them to skew the votes a certain way. That's just pure corruption and immoral, because it takes away from genuine judging of the skaters who had no part in this. Shame on the French judge, and all judges who participated in this.

  • Do you even know what an ice skate is let alone ice? You must live in Hawaii or the Bahamas. Go back to your summer sports. Go play football or tennis.

  • What a rude, rude, inappropiate immature thing to say...

  • the fact that Sandra is saying "No" repeatedly and Scott saying twice "how did that happen". they didnt even show concern or were congratulatory for B&S as Anton was part of the warm-up crash.

thank god Tom Hammond to help keep it as balanced as he could.

Scott and sandra could learn ALOT from Tim Daggett and elfie Schlegel who have called gymnastics @ NBC for almost 20 yrs.

  • The bigger scandal, IMO, is the way the American media handled the situation. It was probably the most ridiculous commentary I've ever heard. Opinions are OK, but the way they treated the Russian pair was dishonest and sad. Even the CANADIAN commentators had so much more class during this situation. They viewed it as a controversial decision but they weren't crying to mommy about it like Scott Hamilton.
