Somehow I get the feeling that many people take Youtube way too seriously......
The whole Youtube community would be a perfect sociological study case, though, showing examples of various behavior such as bullying, bickering, threatening, clique formation, deception, rise of a dictatorship, political dissidence, religious strife, etc. Youtube is a goddamn microcosm.
But then again.... It's just an Internet community run by a greedy corporation. What did you expect?
It's taken so seriously because it's one of the last public forums of free expression. Sure, some people can say whatever they want on TV, but not everyone in the world is a TV star. Sure, Howard Stern can say whatever he wants on the radio, but not everyone is Howard Stern. YouTube USED to place where you and I could REALLY speak our minds, and now YouTube is being dumbed down. That's why it's treated as a big deal.
When Wikipedia became censored, different groups created their own Wiki-pages. I've already seen some groups start their own YouTube-like pages as well. This is what probably will happen to all formerly known havens of free speech and objectivity when corporate or political interests lead to censorship.
Give it some rest and find your own new haven of free speech. As long as the Internet as a whole isn't censored, free speech isn't dead yet. It's just a matter of looking around...
Most people are sheep and couldn't care less about whether or not there is any freedom of speech on YouTube. As long as they've got their lowest denominator entertainment, they won't move on. YouTube is aware of this and that's why they ignore the pleas of those who do care about freedom of speech.
With YOUTUBE deleting uploads & accounts so often now that are not really threatning. People & advertisers with all their profits need to check these alternatives. Metacafe Video / Dailymotion / Google Video

Many of my uploads,have been deleted for no reason. No explicit sex or extreme nudity nothing threatening. Its a damn shame that its now going to be a time that YOUTUBE is going to decline in popularity. A newer site similar to YOUTUBE will be created soon. This will not be good for YOUTUBE. The owner and people at the corporate level may be too arrogant to figure this out.

If your intention was bringing up your children in order to justify the elimination of the right to free speech, then yes, fuck them. That solution makes sense. I am torn with this situation. I am all for free speech and we all know that the kids hear far worse at school than they find on Youtube. Think this is a great idea, and it would absolutely make me happy. I get the content I want to view, I can control the content I view, and the advertising can get the control they want as well. I really think you offer something toward what could be a very good solution. the thing is youtube needs to keep its edgy material if it intends to keep its market share. regardless to what advertisers say what kinds of content they disapprove of. if the audience leaves, youtube will have nothing to sell their advertisers but memories of being a once popular site.

That solution makes sense. I am torn with this situation. I am all for free speech and we all know that the kids hear far worse at school than they find on Youtube. Still,I would be much more angry if they were banning the videos. I think that its up to us to say when is it too much and when to walk away. There are thousands of sites out there where you can vlog. I think YT has a right to make rules for their site and we have a right to decide whether to abide by them. I'm in the middle on this

In 1997 people complained to MTV that there wasn't enough music-related content on the channel. MTV responded by adding shows that had more of what people wanted.
MTV didn't have to do it, after all it's their channel, they can do what they want, but they did it and it was all because people stood up and spoke out.
