@Maht25 everybody has there own opinion i guess. i personally would take an eclipse over a cougar anyday. i used to own a 98 eclipse RS, 5 speed, and i loved it. it was fun, quick for bein nearly stock, and i loved the looks of it. not to mention it was reliable as hell
@jeepinit32 yeah, you're right, like the Honda's 1.6 and whatever the Eclipse has in it would be much quicker off the line than the cougar, mine is slow not only because it's Auto but because that silly V6 isn't meant to be for a 6 second car. but it definitely makes up for it in top speed, hahaha.

@dude33694 Cougar turbos? Nope. But Cougar and Thunderbirds started sharing same platforms from mid-80s to late-90s. And the 86-88 thunderbirds did have a I4 Turbo, so it wouldn't be suprising to have someone drop that into a cougar. Wouldn't be too hard either.

That air/fuel ratio gauge is useless. Get a real wideband gauge and system that displays a digital number like glowshift or Innovate with their lc-1 lambda system. Not the cheapest crap you an buy. AEM is shit. Never buy their stuff. Not their intakes(they have huge dead spots and are just useless), not their gauges. Nothing.

No, in a sense, Supers "spool up" quicker than a turbo does, meaning the second you turn your car on, it's active at idle. that makes it ready and putting out power before a turbo would need to spool. The downside, i believe, is that there is not as much high RPM boost as a turbo can produce potentially, and thought the power range is spanned all throughout the RPm band, superchargers are fixed & cannot really be tuned like a turbo can.
its really preference- more line torque or late HP gain
Centrifugal supers can make power high up from what I have seen (S2K kit at 9k rpm), but not the same way a turbo can, and for low revving V8s a roots or screw super can be all you need. This just to add to your informative comment.

i got a 99 cougar and drifting in it is sick!!! its all stock auto but the ass slides and it makes enough power to handle the drift. ill have a video up asap. that cougar of yours is sick but u need 2 learn how 2 shift or ur gonna drop belts and ur trani.
we might not even do a 3L swap but by the end of the summer the cougar is going to have racing headers, shocks/springs, either a turbo or s'charger, body kit, dual exhaust, and alot of other goods in it.
its not worth it. i have a 2001 cougar. just add the basic modifications... K&N Short Ram Intake(sounds awesome)or even cold air intake, and some decent exhaust. That adds about 25-55 HP depending on the exhaust. a very noticeable difference. a turbo for a cougar adds maybe 70-100 hp? you do the math... 350-400 for intake and exaust vs 3000 for a turbo. +~45 HP vs. +~85HP .anyone who puts 3 grand into a turbo for a cougar is retarded. better off buying a brand new car.

You're missing the whole point of new Cougar's though. They weren't built for the drag strip, they were built to handle around corners. I've personally smoked the piss out of a C4 Corvette around some high speed corners here in Arizona, so take that and smoke it jpisani.

My Cougar ran 15.3 with a short-ram, catback Flowmaster exhaust, and a 140k mile clutch. I've got a new flywheel and clutch that should put me close to 14's, with only mild bolt-ons. His Cougar has run down in the low 14's, and he's on mild boost and not really pushing it all that hard.
A Contour SVT owner (same chassis and powertrain as the Cougar) has gone 13.4 ALL MOTOR on his 2.5. Boosted 3L's run easily into the 12's as long as they have traction..
oh yeah i forot, the cougar prolly onlydoes a 15.0 1/4 time at its best with that supercharger. my gst would hit a hundred so much faster stock. thing looks like a slug
Just to clear some things up. I have a manual cougar totally stock and was running 14.8's at the track. A lot of it comes down to the driver, most ppl just dont know how to run at the strip. So im assuming that w/t the super charger he can prob run 13's. The autos were running 16's at best.
put the crack pipe down and join all us on earth. 99-02 cougars came with 170 hp and weighed a hefty 3065 lb. physics alone will tell you that youll never get a 14.8 stock. the car has a 0-60 time of 8 seconds and that by a professional drag racer of car and driver. for example a 98 eclipse gst is lighter (28xx lb.) and way more power 210 hp and they only do a 14.8 14.9 at best so stop bullshitting and state real life facts not fantasy stories. you've just been school3d

It's only fast if it has the manual transmission. The automatic makes it virtually impossible to install the supercharger. Therefore, you will never be able to do what he is doing in this video. It can be a quick car, but don't expect to see 12s with this car.

It is a supercharger. Vortech makes superchargers. And this car would be good for about mid 14s, maybe as good as high 13s, depending on mods. And for the 16s comment, the manuals are a lot faster than the autos. Trust me, I had the misfortune of owning an auto, and it was good for only 16s, but a good driver with a manual could pull high 15s stock. FI and other bolt ons put this deep into the 14s and even into the high 13s.

i got a 99 cougar and drifting in it is sick!!! its all stock auto but the ass slides and it makes enough power to handle the drift. ill have a video up asap. that cougar of yours is sick but u need 2 learn how 2 shift or ur gonna drop belts and ur trani.

we might not even do a 3L swap but by the end of the summer the cougar is going to have racing headers, shocks/springs, either a turbo or s'charger, body kit, dual exhaust, and alot of other goods in it.

its not worth it. i have a 2001 cougar. just add the basic modifications... K&N Short Ram Intake(sounds awesome)or even cold air intake, and some decent exhaust. That adds about 25-55 HP depending on the exhaust. a very noticeable difference. a turbo for a cougar adds maybe 70-100 hp? you do the math... 350-400 for intake and exaust vs 3000 for a turbo. +~45 HP vs. +~85HP .anyone who puts 3 grand into a turbo for a cougar is retarded. better off buying a brand new car.

well i got a 00 cougar and im not gonna lie... our cars are known for the insane handling cuz ive taken a lot of sharp corners where most cars had to slow down by 10 or 20 mph

wow, what children are on here... both sides of the coin. The guy modified his Cougar... he's workin' with what he's got. Everybody here for some reason thinks they wrote the book on fast cars. All the car's that I've had have won and lost many many races. '66 383 charger, 73 340 Challenger, 77 6.6 Canam, 90 Chevy ZR1, AND 1999 Cougar (slowest of the bunch, but corners like a effin' devil.

You're missing the whole point of new Cougar's though. They weren't built for the drag strip, they were built to handle around corners. I've personally smoked the piss out of a C4 Corvette around some high speed corners here in Arizona, so take that and smoke it jpisani.
And for the record, this car is SUPERCHARGED, not TURBO'd, whoever posted this video ripped it off from the original poster

My Cougar ran 15.3 with a short-ram, catback Flowmaster exhaust, and a 140k mile clutch. I've got a new flywheel and clutch that should put me close to 14's, with only mild bolt-ons. His Cougar has run down in the low 14's, and he's on mild boost and not really pushing it all that hard.
A Contour SVT owner (same chassis and powertrain as the Cougar) has gone 13.4 ALL MOTOR on his 2.5. Boosted 3L's run easily into the 12's as long as they have traction..

Just to clear some things up. I have a manual cougar totally stock and was running 14.8's at the track. A lot of it comes down to the driver, most ppl just dont know how to run at the strip. So im assuming that w/t the super charger he can prob run 13's. The autos were running 16's at best.

put the crack pipe down and join all us on earth. 99-02 cougars came with 170 hp and weighed a hefty 3065 lb. physics alone will tell you that youll never get a 14.8 stock. the car has a 0-60 time of 8 seconds and that by a professional drag racer of car and driver. for example a 98 eclipse gst is lighter (28xx lb.) and way more power 210 hp and they only do a 14.8 14.9 at best so stop bullshitting and state real life facts not fantasy stories. you've just been school3d

It's only fast if it has the manual transmission. The automatic makes it virtually impossible to install the supercharger. Therefore, you will never be able to do what he is doing in this video. It can be a quick car, but don't expect to see 12s with this car.

It is a supercharger. Vortech makes superchargers. And this car would be good for about mid 14s, maybe as good as high 13s, depending on mods. And for the 16s comment, the manuals are a lot faster than the autos. Trust me, I had the misfortune of owning an auto, and it was good for only 16s, but a good driver with a manual could pull high 15s stock. FI and other bolt ons put this deep into the 14s and even into the high 13s.

OK FYI centrifical superchargers DO have bypass valves... and that is DEFF a supercharger NOT turbo. the asshatery here is unreal.
