Speaking as a black guy myself, I see Chapelle as one of the most intelligent celebrities today, regardless of race. He doesn't have to talk "job interview" all the time to see that. The best medium for communication is one which is entertaining and relevant. A true genius can talk both "street vernacular" and "job interview," effectively communicating with different audiences.

Eddie's talent gets lost in translation... so scorpok is true on that. Germany has great speakers for foreign movies, but it can't be perfect. Chris Rock, Jim Carrey, Will Smith (and Robin Williams which i'd like to mention) have the best speakers, they are really close to the originals. Robin Williams german speaker is like Williams himself speaking perfect german and i'm absolutely not kidding.

It's all about money though. If you could make a movie for 3 months and 10 million dollars or tour for 12 months and only bring in 1 million, what would you do? If you notice Eddie Murphy doesn't even make rated R movies any longer. PG movies open his audience to more viewers ultimately increasing his payday.

Selling out is when you are face with the choice of staying broke or taking the cash and running with it. Eddie is a grown man who chose to do a different type of comedy these days. How does a man who has already made his place in comedy history sell out. He has already won. These days he is doing what he wants to do. People change in life so why not in there career.

@sleepingiantmedia I agree with you about Eddie not selling out but I see that you might be unaware to the fact that Eddie took a f'ed up contract where he had to do all of those stupid movies hes been doing recently. Everyone..... artists and performers have quotas that they HAVE to meet in their contract or it will be big trouble for them. So eddie isn't really doing what he WANTS to do. Hes stuck in a bad contract that he HAS to finish.

He has definitely paid his dues while at the same time helped launch countless other black comedians careers. No sell out as far as I can see. He is just a man who has blessed us with countless brilliant comedies and to date 1 of the most perfectly performed and landmark stand up performances. And I bet at the end of this contractual agreement we will see his return to standup:)

@foolio550 ehh... he's a comedian first and foremost. This is all speculation, but I'll bet he just sees it as a paycheck now. Basically retired. Do your "sell out" no-brainer brand of comedy and enjoy the fruits of your more important past works. Or just do as much as you can while you can... then do a big comeback stand-up event that is your grand finale (as Robin Williams has recently done).

Cats like him have been in the game for a long time so he knows the ends and out and what it takes to keep from having to take a trip to south africa to get away from the hot press. @foolio550 Yeah, I don't think anyone can deny he's sold out but you occasionally see glimmers of the old funny Murphy (even if it's mostly in his voiceover jobs). But if they rolled the kind of money he's made selling out to our houses, we probably would have made the same choice too.

Eddie's talent gets lost in translation... so scorpok is true on that. Germany has great speakers for foreign movies, but it can't be perfect. Chris Rock, Jim Carrey, Will Smith (and Robin Williams which i'd like to mention) have the best speakers, they are really close to the originals. Robin Williams german speaker is like Williams himself speaking perfect german and i'm absolutely not kidding.
