ah, the number of times I've done this run back from Pilton on festival bus duties, always forgetting about the huge dip in the road under the gantry at the Gaymers factory before the hill. I remember hitting it so hard once I was lifted clean out the drivers seat of the MCW I was driving at the time!
gorgeous bus she still sounds amazing, we restored her in the early 1990's and used to find appropriate narrow streets to open her up in !! that fishtail exhaust di wonders for her 'bark'
Fantastic soundtrack from the Leyland 680 - amazing how different the 680 sounded in the Bristols compared to the Leopards/Atlanteans etc. Different exhaust setup/gearbox/transmission probably. Brilliant footage.
@pjtrain019 The fact that a Bristol RE has a "remote" gearbox, has a lot to do with the engine note, but for me, the whine of the straight cut gears on the rear axle wins it every time!
I must've watched this clip half a dozen times now, sad so-and-so that I am. Reminds me of regualr rides on WN REs from Langport to Taunton and back about 1980 - can't tell you the route # but I think it was Taunton to Street or maybe Yeovil(?) via Langport. Usually RE's but occasionally LHs.
This was my bus route for nearly 7 years, in a boring optare solo. I did however take my RE 1071 (OHU 770F) along this roadf more than once, RE's sound great coming up out of Shepton....

I could sit and watch this video over and over again, simply superb. Probably the best 'RE' video on You Tube. Thanks for uploading it.
